E3 2010: 'Dead Rising 2' and do-it-yourself zombie killing

Chuck Greene's is an impressive handyman, considering his inventive way of creating weapons in Capcom's zombie action game Dead Rising 2, releasing this fall for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Within the opening moments of Capcom's demo at E3, developers introduce players to the workbench, where they enjoy one of the game's newest perks: building new weapons.

For those new to Dead Rising 2, the game stars Greene, a former Motocross champion who finds himself in the middle of a zombie infestation in a fictional version of Las Vegas called Fortune City.

The first weapon Greene builds is an electric rake, a crazy prod created by welding a car battery to a rake.

Other combinations I spotted included the vacuum with saw blades inside, a baseball bat with nails and a giant teddy bear with gun fit into its body. As players move through the game, they collect cards that clue them in to new combinations.

The thrill of this process are the results players will get from using these devices. The first prod of the electric rake into a crowd at a shopping mall sent five zombies flying back.

Action then transitions to a casino, where slot machines ring and coins fly everywhere as Greene pummels zombies with everything from cushioned seats to cardboard boxes.

Players can perform standard attacks to keep zombies at bay or a more powerful strike for some flourish. The direction players move with the thumbstick determines how the attack is pulled off. Perhaps the funniest moment of the demo involved the giant teddy bear, which can be stuffed on a zombie's head.

Any time during the campaign, Greene can also change outfits. While I opted for a simple fedora, a player next to me sported a cut-off flannel shirt, tiny jean shorts and coonskin cap.

Although it wasn't featured on the show floor, Dead Rising 2 also features a multiplayer component set inside a reality TV show.

'Dead Rising 2' release pushed to September 28

Capcom has pushed back the release of its zombie-infested action game Dead Rising 2 to September 28.

The title for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 was slated to hit stores on August 31, according to an announcement back in February.

Dead Rising 2 features motocross champion Chuck Greene trying to escape a zombie invasion in Fortune City, the fictional equivalent of Las Vegas.

Along with a single-player campaign featuring do-it-yourself weapon combinations, the game includes a multiplayer set inside a reality television show.

Well that is a good combo weapon, but i particularly like the Spiked MMA Gloves. Sure u cant cleave them like Wolverine, but i just find joy in driving my spiked fists in a zombies neck. Mmmmmm thats good
