The federal government is going to release our telephone numbers to marketers. To stop this from happening you must call the national registry FROM the number you are wishing to exclude. I just did it within 30 seconds...pain free automated system. This is actually kind of a big deal...do you seriously want to waste your minutes on this kind of crap?! See the link below for more information.

You may have received an email telling you that your cell phone is about to be assaulted by telemarketing calls as a result of a new cell phone number database; however, that is not the case. Federal Communications Commission regulations prohibit telemarketers from using automated dialers to call cell phone numbers.
hmmm.....that's taken right off that page in the link. I have put my numbers on the do not call registry for years just for the sake of not having to worry about the occasional telemarketer but i do not think it is a case of the government giving our numbers out to them.

here's a link that addresses this "epidemic" as a hoax...it dates December of 2005. This is something that periodically goes around so no need to worry about it. The do not call list is still good to go though, just make sure it is the official one as scam artists have made fake ones in the past

Funny, i am the Network Admin of a corporate office. My CEO forwarded me this email and this is my response back.
Mr. Jones,
This email is a hoax it has been circulating for several years. In 2004 the cell phone companies banded together to construct a cell phone 411 list and all cell phone numbers were put into a database for this purpose. Internet bloggers got their hands on this information and twisted it into the hoax it is today. The email is usually circulated in January and June each year. I have included a couple of links for you to look at and to forward if anyone you know has received the email.
Government response to the email in 2007

Good call. I checked the information, but like you said...the rumor is so wide spread I found several sources confirming it. Thanks for the solid info. I agree with one of the other posts..it's still a good idea to register your number on the do not call list. I've gotten several marketing calls on my cell phone is the past couple of months.
