I used to the MRE king but these fuckers are hard to come by in the reserves plus I'm gonna hang it up for awhile soon. They only hand them out on special occasions. I need a fix and might pick some up if I can find a box or individual packets at my base commissary. Found a great site that teaches everything you'd ever wanna know about this fine military cuisine!

HAHA I loved my MRE when they sent me to the Beast in basic. Never used the heaters that came with it they don't give you time. Milkshake was this shiznit!! Well that is before I destroyed the latrine........ It really is hot in Texas..... Don't eat the omelet!!!!!
I had 2 full cases A and B. I think my wife made them "Dissapear" when we moved back to Alabama.

Man, MER's are the shit. When we went to Iraq we didn't have a DFAC set up yet, so we survived for 5 months on MRE's and Hadji food. I do know that you can buy them at those Emergency Supply stores. Well, at least you can in Utah, I don't know if those stores are popular outside of Utah.

Here is what I was going to say and had to retype it all...
Anyways what I was going to say is there was only a few that I could actually stand. Chicken fajita, hamburger, grilled chicken, and sloppy Joe. I usually wouldn't eat the main meal anyways just rat fuck them. We used to have so many left overs because everyone would eat their own pogy bait instead. I would snag some of the boxes that are left over and sell them to the local military surplus store.
Timmy glitching so he can get ahead with the posts... Damn Timmy_2_Posters lets clan kick him LOL

I can pick them up at surplus stores around san diego for about 7 bucks i piece last i recall. When most of my unit returned from iraq the first time in 05, they had so many left over cases of MREs stashed in the 20' workstation shelter, probably about 15 cases. Not sure how they acquired so many but i didn't care to know, all i cared about was that for some reason i was one of the only ones that really liked them and i got to take about 5 cases home with me :)

When I had a couple extra MRE after drill I would hand them out to the people I work with. They would usually like them or give them to their kids to eat.

I don't know how many of you out there remember the very earliest versions of MRE that had two of the all-time nastiest meals: Chicken-ala-King, and the Omlet. ::insert barfing noises here::.
yea the MREs I remember were nasty. My wife was working for Combat Feeding where they come up with the new flavors for MREs and recipes for food we get in the army and Navy here on the base we work at. I never tasted any of them but she says the food and MREs she ate were really good. Maybe I should sign up to be a taste testing guinea pig for the new flavors here, seen the flyers around base before but hard to do it working graveyards. Too bad she doesn't work in that area anymore since the heads of it were a couple of nutcase civilian power hungry dictators, lol. Otherwise I could ask her to get some freebies, oh well.

i remember as a kid back in the mid to late 90's my dad had this huge pile of surplus Sea Rations. They weren't exactly the greatest tasting thing in the world but it could have been worse. Something about eating a pound cake from a can seemed appealing to me lol.

Oh, yes do I remember them. The omlet looked like Alpo dog food. I fought for the peanut butter though. All these boys have it made in todays Military. (sp...inside joke for a few of you..LMAO)

FYI. Got an IPhone/Touch app called "MRE Info". Great resource. If anyone has the hookup lemme know. Better than buying from eBay or a surplus store.

I remember a post like this before. I have found out that the MRE's have came a long way since my days. My fav was Chicken Ala King. Alot of it in the days looked like Alpo Dog food to me but, had to eat what was given out. My family wonders why I am not a picky eater. I always tell them if they have ate some of the shit I have then they wouldn't be picky either. Of course I get well I just wouldn't eat. They also don't understand why I eat so fast. I tell them sometime there wasn't alot of time to eat. It just becomes a habit after a while.
Here is a question for you OIF and OEF Vets. Did they issue you guys the Desert Bar that Hersey made and they gave us during The Gulf???? They where damn good and I had a couple packed away but, one of my sons must of had a chocolate craving one day. Of course none of them will fess up to it.

My fav. MRE used to be the beef enchalada meal, but they went and screwed it up for me.. it used to have the beef enchelada, jalapeno cheddar cheese, and mexican rice, and tobasco sauce.. it was so damn delicious to mix all 4 of those together in one mess... but then they switched out the jalapeno cheez and mexican rice for something else...
my Fav. item now has got to be the Blueberry Cobbler.. holy shit is it tasty. it caused fights when i went to LDAC a few years back. was the first time i saw this delicacy.

two different things, they got acouple in the local VFW in a Desert Storm display.
The "Hooah Bar" is more of a protein bar.

Yeah the MRE's we had sucked ass compared to the ones they have today. The worst one I remember was the the beef with bbq sauce. Basically rip off the sole of your boot pour bbq sauce all over it and enjoy, oh yeah and in the middle of everyone was a huge ass piece of grissle or something! Chicken a la king was the best one they had back in the day. We did get the new ones (new to us at the time) in the Gulf that were good, spaghetti, the omlette one and they just put M&M's in the MRE's so they were good. We traded a few with the Brits when we were training with them and there's were either really good or we were just tired of eating the same shit day after day.

I seem to remember that it was more or less implied that you needed to crush up the crackers that came with the chicken ala king. That was about they only way they remained tolerable.
I also remember in the Gulf War getting the sundries packs. If your unit received so many cases of MREs, they automatically got these packs that had enough supplies for everyone in your unit. The packs had writing pads, pens, envelopes, sunglasses, soap, laundry detergent, and M&Ms. The only problem was that the M&Ms absorbed the taste of the soap, which made them inedible.

No contest: Beef Stew with white rice and tobasco. Chicken & rice was a close second. Chicken & salsa with mexican rice mixed in at 3rd.
