Good to see that Mythbusters is already planning to tackle it. My only theory is that they used a custom packed load with a minimal amount of powder. Just enough to get it out of the gun and into the ice with the spin as shown in the video.

That would make sense. In a .40, you could probably get by with a trickle of powder to accomplish that. I didn't even look to see if the gun cycles after it is fired?

Yeah I have seen that before but kind of skeptical about it.

i added in the full original video to the original post and i am pretty skeptical as well.

Watch how they show it spinning while the guy is having trouble focusing the camera on it. It is spinning pretty fast and then abruptly stops. that's not how spinning works, not naturally anyways. When things spin the kinetic energy that was created through the initial transfer of energy (in this case the explosion inside the cartridge that then drives the bullet through the barrel) is slowly burned up and momentum losses it's hold on the object as it slows and starts to wobble down with the pull of gravity. Another source of energy has to be applied to cause the object to suddenly stop, i.e. the brakes applied in a vehicle or a stick being thrust into the spokes of a bike tire. Translation = i'm not quite buying it, from a scientific standpoint :lol:
