I was checkin out some GT5 info and found a cars list..

http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/forum/ga ... o-5-a.html (http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/forum/gaming/33712-gran-turismo-5-a.html)

not sure why a racing game has several versions of HUMMWV's to include an 1114 (not exactly speedy)

pretty cool stuff though, i didnt look through the entire list there, some 340 cars, supposedy going to be about 1000 cars in the game, i think thats a typo at the top that says 10,000..

that list was posted in 2007 and after all the list posts, many people are skeptical and say that is only an elaborate wish list and nothing official. Google searches have found me this article at 1up.com (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3175726), posted in Aug, '09 stating that the game will feature 1,000 vehicles and 60 tracks. I guess we shall see soon enough

As for the Hummers, Gran Turismo has always had a lot of vehicles in it that aren't exactly built for speed but still fun to try out and see what it would theoretically handle like on a race trace. Be prepared for many amusing vehicles like this and i'm sure there will be special class races for many of them too

Cool article, I <3 the gran turismo series... 1&2 not so much, 3&4 i really loved.. the only racing games that i can really get into. Im not so excited about the crash dammage though. I read a while back... maybe in my gt4 guide about why they didnt put it in there to begin with, and it really made sense, the developer put it something to the effect of not wanting the player to have to constantly worry about repairing their car. getting more time to just play and race.

I just really like the way that its all about skill and not just like need for speed and other series that you never let go of the gas...

I was a little iffy on the vehicle damage idea at first but after letting it sink in i think it will be for the better because it will provide an even more realistic driving simulator than it already was. And it will give more purpose to the pit stops than changing tires on the really long enduro races. I need to keep up with you guys and start work on my own driving rig in time for this game

I am stoked for this game. I played GT3 (or 4 can't remember) the whole time I was in Iraq. I had a BAD ASS Supra. That thing dominated on the track. I am stoked for this game to come out. It has been too long.

I am very excited about GT5 I played all the GT games . I remember the first one I ran the Mitsubishi 3000 don't remember the model car but it was a Mitsubishi . I had that car topped out with all the bells and whistles .I have been building my racing sim just for this game. [ I posted pics of it on the tech forum].Once it comes out I would like to race with you guys . Also excited about nascar racing being part of the game.

Polyphony still has tricks up their sleeves, such as this recently revealed track creation and kart racing features

http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/08/500x_gt5.jpg
The course count for Polyphony Digital's real driving simulator Gran Turismo 5 is now approaching infinity, thanks to the game's just revealed Course Maker, shown off today at Gamescom in Germany.

Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi demoed the Course Maker feature today, showing that it's not the type of tool that will let players build a custom course from scratch, but something different. A fully featured track editor, Yamauchi says, "really requires a complete CG tool, which would limit the number of users who could use it."

Instead, Gran Turismo 5's Course Maker lets you build a custom racetrack based on a set of parameters. Players can select a theme, choose the number of sections and course type (one way or loop), weather, time of day and length. Two of the themes shown off were Toscany and the Belgian High Fens.

The Course Maker lets you edit that track section-by-section, choosing the frequency of curves, course width, sharpness of corners, degree of topography tracing, and bank angles. Those choices are set by sliders or drop down lists. Yamauchi created a pair of custom tracks, both with the same theme but with different parameters. He quickly took each for a test drive, illustrating how quickly a player could create two very different courses.

Yamauchi also offered a look at Gran Turismo 5's newest vehicle, karts. The Polyphony Digital head honcho said that it was planned to be a feature for the next game in the series, but after the feature was apparently "leaked," the team decided to include it earlier.

We'll have more details on Gran Turismo 5's other new additions soon.

Guess what delayed again lol

From ign.com

Gran Turismo 5 has been delayed once more as Sony announces it is to miss its November release date.

"We sincerely apologize to GT fans for the delay," explained the official US PlayStation blog, "however, creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital want to make certain they are creating the perfect racing experience, and we are confident that this ambitious game will exceed expectations when it launches."

Gran Turismo 5 was slated for a release on November 2 in the US and November 5 in the UK. Sony has since confirmed that the delay is global, with its European outlet saying it hopes to reveal a new date before the end of the month and that it's to see a release before Christmas.

We recently took Gran Turismo 5 for what we thought would be a final spin before its launch.

unfortunate but at least the delays are breaking up what was going to be a really rough month in PS3 gaming due to several huge titles dropping at once

the 3 big ones were going to be COD:Black Ops, Little Big Planet 2, and Gran Turismo 5 so now we'll be more spaced out with one dropping each month

So been web surfing and also talking with my friends at gamestop . It seems the new release date for GT5 will be .......drum roll please.......... Dec 7, I mean Dec 13 no no no Jan 1 that is what info I got . If you look up the official GT5 website there saying before the holidays. I was also told the reason for hold up this time, 1- one of the tracks had too many glitches. 2- The developer wants the complete game to run 60fps and at this time only 70 to 80% of the game is running at that frame rate. BOO HOO ! So we wait ! And wait !

Nov 24th official release date
Ign.com

After countless delays and false starts Gran Turismo 5 has been given a final release date, with Sony and Polyphony's PlayStation 3 exclusive driving game now slated for November 24.

The news should hopefully herald the end of an ongoing saga as the game missed its initial street date earlier this month and was subject to speculation that it wouldn't see the light of day this year.

Recent news that retail discs for Gran Turismo 5 were in production should help ease any fears that the game could be delayed again, and videos cropping up on YouTube suggest the final boxed copy has even made it out into the hands of some lucky players.

Gran Turismo 5 was first officially announced in 2006, since when its Microsoft rival Forza has seen two full instalments on the Xbox 360. Thankfully, it's looking like it'll be worth the wait.

Regular fans of the Gran Turismo lineage will no doubt know of a certain Amar212, he’s a regular poster on GTPlanet, GTSurgeons.com (http://gtsurgeons.com/) and NeoGAF and always seems to know just that little bit more than everyone else. Well, he got his own copy of the latest in the series, GT5, a day or two back, and has been pushing out regular updates on the GTPlanet forums (http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=132738) since.
With his permission, we’ve picked out the juicy bits and prepared them in an easily digestable form for your delectation, below. Enjoy.
The game’s install takes about 40 minutes. You’re warned that it might be closer to 50, but Amar’s installation was done in ten minutes less than that, so it presumably depends a little on your model of PS3 and the hard drive you’ve got installed. The space taken is actually about 6.4GB, but that space gradually unpacks as you’re playing to be closer to the previously mentioned 10GB. In short, better make some room before the game’s release next week.
Steering wheels that feature a clutch do work. Apparently it’s the same process as Gran Turismo 5: Prologue – you have to press triangle before a race, but clutch support is in.
The dashboard view is configurable. Anyone moaning that the steering wheel and dash take up too much screen real-estate when playing from the in-car view will rejoice in the news that you can tweak the ‘interior view angle’ in the game’s ‘Quick Options’ from Standard to Narrow and Narrower, pushing the field of view inwards so that more of the windscreen is visible and less of the dash. Perfect. The HUD map size can also be adjusted.
Tyre and fuel depletion is in. Before a race you can opt for whether you’d like GT5 to simulate the wear and tear of the tyres and whether or not fuel depletion should be a factor in the game. Indeed, revving hard and driving to the limit will use up more fuel just like in real life.
The distinction between Professional and Standard physics has been removed. There’s a new option – Skid Recovery – which helps to simplify some of the physics but there’s no longer a toggle between the two options. Amar says that the physics lay somewhere between Prologue and the GT Academy demo, they’re better and more complex than GT5P and yet more realistic than they were in Academy; they’re the best the series has ever had. Skid Recovery is locked ‘on’ for the early License Tests, too.
The sound is much improved. There’s a clear difference between GT5′s sound and that in previous versions, and the engines sound the best when heard from the roof-mounted camera. There’s no hood-cam, though, which might be disappointing to some. Bumping into other cars now sounds much better, and in 5.1 there’s a distinct doppler effect, especially in replays, that has to be heard to be believed.
Each car you can buy has a ‘demo’ mode. When in the dealership you can watch the car being auto driven on a test track with the car’s description and story scrolling past. The cars go all over the track, up and down, and the engine note is reflected appropriately.
Standard cars look fine. There’s been some internet chatter about the difference between the Standard (pulled from GT4) and the Premium (new to GT5) cars, but Amar says that the Standard ones, whilst obviously not up the level of the super detailed Premium ones, are absolutely fine.
Winning races doesn’t always unlock new cars. Indeed, cars are unlocked as ‘tickets’ which can be redeemed yourself or gifted to others (which is a nice touch) but you can also expect to win paint colours and new horns, both of which are collectable.
Other things of note: there’s 189 songs in the game’s soundtrack; 16 car races feature in the License Tests; the replays (which feature two internal views pointed at the driver, too) are amazing, with incredible lighting effects and the GUI, which we didn’t think that much of in the still shots, is genre leading.
Thanks to Amar for these early impressions of the full game, which sounds incredible. Six days, people, six days…

After playing this game for over 7 hours or so heres my review.

to start the game i recommend you install the 6.5 gb on your ps3 to cut down on loading times otherwise you will feel like your spending the most time in the loading screens. there is so much content in this game, its well worth 60 bucks but its not what i expected after 6 years in development.

the good
driving physics are amazing, the best i have played in a simulation compared to the forza series which i have also
the graphics look beautiful almost real life like
weather effects are great.
the game is really fun for a driving sim
rally car racing
drift mode
kart racing
top gear test track is a really great addition

the bad
-upgrading cars needs improvement, there needs to be more depth on what you want to put on your cars like forza did. and since when can you not upgrade your brakes what kinda crap is that sony.
-the a.i. needs improvement, when your racing seems like there on rails and they use the same path over and over.
-the damage effect (or lack there of) in the cars needs improvement (forza was way better in the damage effects)
-200 premium cars which all have the cockpit view, the other 800 dont have a cockpit view. im sorry but 6 years in development and they didnt include this view. its a big deal to me but maybe not to others.
-there is no ranking system for the online play so it just feels like im racing people for the hell of it. takes away from the excitement and becomes stale. i hope to race some of the fellow usmg members, that should make it more exciting.

so had they spent more time in polishing the damage, upgrades, and a.i. this would be game of the year hands down.
i recommend you buy any logitech steering wheel if you are going to get this game to get the full driving effect. the controller just doesnt cut it.

im sure ironhide or inkabodpain can had a little more.

i would give this game 4/5 stars

Ironhide400
11-28-2010, 16:37
I say you covered it pretty well. I was very disappointed with the online experience as you mentioned. Also one area I thought they would have improved on is the car buying for the campaign. You never really know what car you need to buy for what race series until you get there, and you win cars that you sell because they are worthless for you. I am sure that I am missing something, but I spend more time trying to figure out what car I need, than playing. They also recycled many of the old maps that I have raced a million times in the previous game. Overall, I would say 3/5 stars, not enough add on's and refinements for the time they have had.

MARDIGRA21
11-28-2010, 17:25
Btw I didn't play gt prologue so the recycled maps I didn't notice, also have u bought a truck yet I can never find one, oh ironhide I also gave u a Mazda roadster lol

Dirt is badass not dirt 2 though

MaximusR3
11-29-2010, 04:19
I'm not surprised to hear the online portion is a little lacking since Polyphony Digital really hasn't done all out online racing in previous titles (unless you count gt5 prologue, which i consider just a demo) so it's still fairly new to them. Damage physics is also new to them, this being the first time physical damage has ever been in a GT title. So what i'm hearing from you guys, the new stuff they are trying out needs polish and the old things they've been doing right are as good as ever. Sounds good to me since in this day in age they can always release patches to take care of shortcomings

as for the recycled tracks, this does not come as a surprise to me either since they use real world tracks. They go through a lot of effort to make these tracks as close to the real thing as possible so while it may seem recycled to some, the real life race enthusiasts will likely have nerd-gasms over the attention to detail lol

Yes I can ! To say this game sucks would be a lie . What came out after five years in the making not so good. Excellent job with graphics and driving sim. Single player mode way more enjoyable than online. Online takes way to long to start a race .The way it set up to pick cars for each race even worse. No ranking or achievements for online play. Game will be much more enjoyed with racing wheel. So my final word.

single player mode 4 oil drips out of five

Online play mode 2 oil drips out of five

I give this game a 3.5 oil drips out of 5." Don't ask how I did the math ... I just did !"

I'm still looking for some jap classics nissan skyline 70 . I purchased a toyota something something 65 and noticed very low miles per hour and motor not running properly and to my surprise I noticed oil light on. I went to the maintenance section of the board and needed a oil change badly. Rebuild the motor and bingo bango the car still sucks ! Miles per hour went up and it did run much better . i've been playing around with the free birthday gift cars (on your birthday it awards you with a car, which differs depending on your birth year, going back as far as 1942) and needless to say, i have extra cars if people want them.

Timmy, i sent you a 1942 Volkswagen Schwimmwagen typ166, it has no resale value but it's still pretty cool to have and being an old car, it gives you the old timer trophy once you claim it. I have 3 more in my garage so if someone wants one let me know.

I also have i think 4 extra 1944 Volkswagen Kubelwagen typ82's which also give you the trophy and better yet, the resale value is 73,000c so let me know if you guys want one.

I can theoretically get any of the birthday cars so if you want, go HERE (https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=0AilqorKfre_udFRGMWZ2NXA5a2x6SVRTWU4yVmRPc3c&hl=en&single=true&gid=0&output=html) and check out the list by year and let me know.

Lol, about that VW, it is an awesome looking vehicle. That is about it. Top speed of 52 MPH, that is down hill with a tail wind. None the less thank you Max, and if you feel so inclined to hook me up with that other VW, I could use $73,000.

lol yes, as a driving vehicle the old vehicles are terrible, HP in the mid 20's but they are good for a trophy and for collecting. I'll send you the other one when i get on next

You can not add performance parts to the Buick special . The way its set up its pretty tight . I won the car after winning the first race on classic muscle car race one level below experienced I also believe it leveled me up to 14 so I may have one it for leveling up don't remember . I used it on both muscle car races on experienced level. No tuning. Gold on both.

Sorry.. I meant to say I stopped celebrating at 28. LOL
I have went and bought the Spoon in the dealership and beefed it up and used that for all the FF and small cars races. I handles like a dream. I used a Chaparral for all the Classic car events and I used the Cevy RR truck for the truck race (Beefed up) I used the Alfa race car for the Italian races. I also used these same cars in B spec and my driver pretty much cruises to the checkereds.

looks like the new patch, while adding new damage options to online races, has also alter the way the gifting works so that puts a torn in my side with the birthday cars but oh well, it still works to an extent, just takes more time it seems since i gifted myself 6 or 7 cars and signed on and it only showed up as one. So it's either you can only receive one gift per day from a particular user or you have to accept one before accepting the next or it cancels them out. I'll have to look further into it to see what the situation is because currently i received the one vehicle so the others i sent are somewhere in purgatory....

that new developement aside I still sent out a few of the '44 VWs to you guys, i believe i got one to Timmy, Iron, and Mardi so let me know if it worked out properly. Ink, i'm still looking for that Skyline for you, i was getting tons of 63 'vetts but no luck on the nissan yet

I searched and didn't really find a roll call post about GT5 for the PS3 so thought I would post one. I've noticed that many of you that are on my PSN friends list have Aspec and Bspec drivers. If anyone else in the group is into Online Racing please add me "tw0sh0t2112".

I have been recently getting into all forms of racing and tuning cars for online racing. I've also been racing BSpec offline racing. So if you have Bspec drivers be sure to SHARE THEM individually. I noticed a few of you have yours shared, so if you haven't logged in and checked your XP and money earned you might be surprised.

I am normally on and doing some online racing somewhere with "UMG" in the tagline of the room I made. Just hit me up.

Here is a pic of my '09 Corvette ZR1 with the Racing Modification. :) Hard to believe it's not a REAL car.. :)

I haven't been able to bring my self to play it again. Starting over sucks balls.

Naw, I think the cheap Toshiba drive probably caused it. On hindsight, I'd have been better off to buy a Seagate for 50 bucks rather than losing my PS3 for a month...D'Oh!

Why do people change their hard drives on PS3 anyway? Do they break a lot?

WileCoyote_2009
04-05-2011, 22:14
I haven't heard of it so much. I know some people will buy a 120 slim and throw a 500MB or a 1GB drive in. It's cheaper than buying the machines that come with the bigger drives. If one was really cleaver, they'd back up to a spare drive and just swap if there's a problem.

However, the guy at future shop said that PS3s don't often come back and, when the they do, it's rare that they are irreparable whereas it's quite the opposite for Xboxes. I'm the first person I know who has had PS3 problems, but everyone I know with an Xbox is on at least their second and, more often, their third or fourth machine. Not to bash Xbox but maximum warranty is a smart purchase option.

Sony makes shit, and Microsoft writes shit, so it makes sense that Sony's machine is a bit better made.

MaximusR3

it's true, they have added a remote race mode for B-spec. you just set it and forget it like a rotisserie oven

to access it, from the main GT mode home screen go to Community>Remote Race(new icon of a headset and a profile image)>enter remote server standby mode.

once in this mode you can go to the official site, www.gran-turismo.com, log in, and part way down will be a big button that says you are ready to start a remote race. Another window will open where you choose a race, each of which are about 20 minutes long, and then a list to add drivers. You pick one of yours and then click the + button to add another driver from your friends list. People who have available drivers will be lit up, everyone else will be shadowed. once you're all set up just hit the start race button and you're free to do whatever for the next 20 minutes. You can watch it on your tv screen if you want or you can monitor it on the new window that opened, or you could just not care at all and come back later to see the results and start another race.

I'm not positive but i think a driver can only have 3 race prizes waiting at a time so create as many drives as you can for maximum gain before having to go back on the PS3 to cash in. To collect your winnings, select each individual driver from the driver list (GT Life>Drivers(round helmet icon) ) that has at least one yellow circle at the bottom of their stat card indicating they have awaiting winnings to cash in. Hit the button between share with friends and retire driver titled receive prizes.

also, in the driver list make sure you set at least 1 driver to share with friends so that other people can put your driver in their races and earn you XP and money
