Mass Effect 3 announced at the VGA's this weekend.

First, biggest announcement for it can be seen in the title. It's being released for all 3 platforms, at release.

Second, Holiday 2011, so it'll be here this time next year.

Third, you're going to Earth.

Fourth..../joygasm.

Completely unrelated, the chick playing the violin for Halo Reach at the VMA's is totally hot. So is Olivia Munn. And Maria Menounos. And especially Eliza Dushku. Come to think of it, pretty much every chick on stage, with the exception of Denise Richards.

But back on topic. Mass Effect 3. Wahoo!!

Yeah, ME2 is an awesome mix of action third person shooter and RPG/story games. I'm mildly sorry for you that your missing half the inside storylines.....but hopefully they'll allow you to pick up the DLC.

Oh, but if you end up falling asleep in the middle of surveying......don't be surprised.

they are also supposed to be adding a bunch of extra stuff for the PS3 version to help fill what would be gaps in the storyline that carried over from the first so it doesn't feel like the players are missing huge story elements by not playing the first game

Freed Rachni Queen, Saved Wrex, lost Kaidan, had Liara, saved the Acension and named Udina Ambassador in ME1

ME2, saved myself for Liara in Shadow Broker, killed Morinth and saved the kid in overlord, stopped Garus from killing Sidonis, and thats where I'm at now.... finishing up a few more side stories, then the big finish, woohooo!!!

Mass Effect 3 is gonna kick ass and the whole galaxy will side with Shepard in my game

lol, what's the obsession with Liara?

And you clearly need to take the Tali option in ME2.

And besides, you're supposed to romance all 3 of them in ME2, then don't complete the final conversation closing the romance until right before you leave for the final fight. Then you can have every romance option available to you after one quick fight.

LOL Spyder, u sly bastard having Sex with all those women and cheating on Williams. Here's how i played.

ME1- Good, Saved Wrex, Saved Williams, lost Keidan, saved the Rachni Queen, saved Accension, and Named Anderson the Counciler, as for romance went with Williams

ME2- Good, did all good with the side quests except for Zaeed, did the shadow broker and kept it, Kasumi: did hers good but didnt get the weapon cuz im a soldier, and the other stuff i did good but won't spoil the ending for Bull3t. As for the romance did all 4 but went with Miranda.

Can't wait for Mass Effect 3 and the final chapter for the fate of the crew of the Normandy and Commander Sheppard.

I have a thing for completion, achievements, and seeing how they will impliment choices. I've only got 2 saves for ME, since I have a hard time going back to play it.

One was good throughout, hook up with Liara, sac. Kaiden, save the council.
The second was Renegade up until I maxed it out and got the achievement.....just before Ilos....then paragon and renegade depending on how I felt about the situation. Hook up with Ash, sac. Kaiden again, and save the council again. Oh, and save wrex both times, Anderson to the council, and pretty sure I killed the Rachni queen in both.

ME2, I went good for one, bad for the other, and good for the Insanity difficulty run.

1st good was chaste for Ashley, bad was Jack, and good insane was Miranda. Though I keep a save at the point immediately before you jump to the final conflict, so that I can take all those choices, and plug in any romance option....just so I can see how they turn out.

Oh, and being the badass I am......no one died in any of mine. Not even Insanity, which was awesome, by the way. Hard as all hell, but awesome.

In what will certainly be receiving a mixed reaction from many of Mass Effect‘s core audience, BioWare has confirmed that the series’ Lead Gameplay Designer Christina Norman has left the company ahead of the completion of Mass Effect 3. Reasons for Norman’s departure aren’t being given, but we do know that her replacement should be considered up to the task.

Norman’s tenure as Lead on the Mass Effect franchise was one defined by change, taking the extensive and at-times cumbersome inventory and collection mechanics of the first game out of the equation in favor of a much more streamlined shooter

The defense of our home planet is usually viewed as a paramount priority and throughout the Mass Effect trilogy, that was an element with a lot of foreboding. Mass Effect 3 brings the Reaper threat to our beloved Earth and it’s up to Commander Shepard to stop them.

At E3 last week, we got up close and personal with Mass Effect 3 for a private demo with the game’s director, Casey Hudson. For a hint of what we saw, check out the brand new “Fall of Earth” trailer

Ever since the first piece of marketing was revealed for Mass Effect, most gamers have come to associate the persona of Commander Shepard with his male representation. While not meant to be sexist in nature, this marketing choice unified gamers’ vision of Commander Shepard despite the opportunity to select either a female or male Shepard in the game.

Now, as gamers near the big push to support Mass Effect 3, BioWare has revealed that they will soon be releasing a new trailer for the game that features a female version of Commander Shepard

It was possible that it would co-op, then it wasn’t going to have co-op. Now it might have co-op. This is the tale of BioWare’s Mass Effect 3, one of the most anticipated games of the year which is no longer even coming out this year.

Despite the game design of the Mass Effect series allowing for the player to constantly be supported by two AI-controlled teammates, the series has yet to introduce multiplayer functionality that would allow real-life people to take control of said characters. As it turns out, Mass Effect 3 may change that

A lot of people have stuck with the Mass Effect series for quite some time. Stories were forged, decisions were made, and romances were started with crew mates.

The lush space opera trilogy will come to an end with Mass Effect 3. The 2012 release date seems so far away, but luckily, executive producer for the Mass Effect trilogy, Casey Hudson, is sharing some interesting details about the game.

It’s really no surprise to see that BioWare will be raising the bar in nearly every way with the massive conclusion to their space opera trilogy, Mass Effect 3. With the massive improvements made to the combat and shooting since the series’s first installment, we had guessed that the third game would be taking the combat into even more sophisticated territory, but a recent interview with the game’s developers has revealed just how much of a challenge Shepard will be facing. It seems that Mass Effect 3 will be packing some serious surprises for long-time fans.

If there’s one thing that fans of both action-heavy futuristic shooters and extensive role-playing games can agree on, it’s that a hero or heroin is only as great as the armor they protect themselves with. Mass Effect 3‘s Shepard is no exception, but now an image of the alternate costumes offered with the collector’s edition of the game show that the Commander’s squad will also be sporting some updated looks. Aside from some truly epic outfits, the image also gives us the first look at new team member James Vega, as well as a few hints that every soldier may be a bit more deadly the third time around.

It seems that even in this modern age, gamers around the world are just as vulnerable to a good beauty contest as any other demographic. After BioWare revealed their intention to bring a new design to the female version of Commander Shepard, the protagonist of Mass Effect 3, fans wasted no time in voicing their opinion. It turned out the blonde was the preferred model among loyal fans, but to make sure that the development team gets it right, BioWare has just begun the second round of voting to determine what version will be available in Mass Effect 3.

For those of you who may not be among the most dedicated of Mass Effect fans, it may be difficult to think of anyone who didn’t love the critically-hailed Mass Effect 2. While the first in the series was an undeniable nod to BioWare‘s RPG roots, the follow-up was a far more refined shooter that many fans weren’t expecting. Still, the story of the series has kept gamers patiently waiting for the chance to finish the fight next year. With Mass Effect 3, the developers need to deliver a game that is satisfying both to long-time fans and first-timers, and if recent statements are anything to go on, the hardcore fan base may not be happy with the ‘balance’ the game has struck.

Though our E3 preview, trailers, and first hands-on experience with the game had us thinking we had Mass Effect 3 pretty pinned down, Associate Producer Michael Gamble has come out to drop a few tidbits to make us realize we were all wrong. Talking about everything from upcoming DLC, weapon mods, and the game’s morality system, Gamble lets some juicy details fly – juicy details that make us much more excited for this game.

Among the details Gamble lets loose to Ten Ton Hammer is the revelation that the choices in Mass Effect 3, though sometimes thought to be cut-and-dry, might lead to serious repercussions. As part of our E3 preview we saw one of the decisions mentioned by Gamble – where Commander Shepard opts to let a little boy go on – which resulted in an event that was surprising, yet intriguing

It’s official, ladies and gentlemen, as BioWare has now released the official portrayal of Mass Effect 3‘s female Commander Shepard. Any doubts that the blonde/brunette/redhead debate was a sign that the development and marketing team wasn’t taking the game seriously should be put to rest, as this FemShep looks more than ready to take the fight to the Reapers in ME3.

The latest batch of screenshots in from PAX Prime 2011 return the spotlight to the more familiar face of Commander Shepard, and some of the action that he and his squad will be dishing out against their enemies

Bioware's Mass Effect 3 will be the first title in the popular, space-faring action-RPG series to feature a multiplayer mode, according to announcements leaked in advance of upcoming magazine reports.

Both the U.S. Official Xbox Magazine and Australia's PC PowerPlay are teasing Mass Effect 3 upcoming cover stories in which project director Casey Hudson will detail " the series’ first foray into online gameplay," as PowerPlay puts it.

The revelation follows nearly a year of rumor and speculation surrounding game's inclusion of a multiplayer mode, which started even before the game was officially announced at last year's Spike TV Video Game Awards.

Since then, various reports have ruled out the possibility of such a multiplayer mode, hinted at the mode's existence via anonymous sources, and teased the pending announcement of such a mode.

The first two Mass Effect games focused heavily on a branching single-player narrative where player choice can have significant impact on how the story unfurls. OXM promises its next issue will discuss "how [the multiplayer mode] will... work with Mass Effect 3's beefy solo campaign."

The sequels to both Naughty Dog's Uncharted and 2K Games' BioShock added multiplayer modes to their exclusively single-player, narrative-focused predecessors.

Mass Effect 3 is expected to hit store shelves in the first quarter of 2012.

[UPDATE: BioWare's Casey Hudson has Tweeted: "Yes, co-op MP missions for #ME3: they're real, and they're spectacular. Rest assured it's nothing of what you've feared. More soon..."]

Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War and 4 player co-op multiplayer announced (http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/323/index/8481789/1)

Hi Everyone

Today BioWare and the Mass Effect 3 team are very pleased to announce 4 player co-op multiplayer missions and the Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War system for Mass Effect 3 on the PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

4 player co-op multiplayer

Join your friends in the all-out galactic war to take Earth back. The universe of Mass Effect expands with the addition of new co-op multiplayer missions, playable over Xbox Live, PSN and PC internet. Players can choose from a variety of classes and races, form an elite Special Forces squad, and combine their weapons, powers and abilities to devastating effect as they fight together to liberate key territories from enemy control. Success in multi-player will have a direct impact on the outcome of the single player campaign, giving players an alternative method of achieving ultimate victory against the greatest threat mankind – and the entire galaxy – has ever faced.

Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War

As a bonus to the campaign, BioWare is introducing the Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War system, a new way for players to manage and experience the galactic war from multiple fronts, including a new 4-player co-op mode. The key to saving the galaxy is the “Galactic Readiness” level, measured by Commander Shepard’s ability to apply
every possible asset – people, weapons, resources, armies, fleets – in the final battle against the Reapers. Players can impact their game’s Galactic Readiness level in multiple ways via the Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War system, including multiplayer. Other platforms and interfaces will be announced in the coming months. It is important to note that the system is entirely optional and just another way players can have control over your game experience – it is still possible to achieve the optimal, complete ending of the game in Mass Effect 3 through single-player alone.

F.A.Q.

Why include 4 player Co-op multiplayer in Mass Effect 3?
Being able to explore and fight alongside your friends in the Mass Effect universe has always been something we thought would be fun and compelling, and many players have asked for it for a long time as well. Mass Effect 3 is the best place for us to introduce multiplayer through co-op because of the premise of the game – all out galactic war.

Why only 4 player co-op? What not a versus mode?
We have always maintained that we would only add multiplayer into the Mass Effect series if it made sense and did not compromise the power of the single player campaign. Fighting together against a common threat was the multiplayer experience that made the most sense for Mass Effect 3. The way we have designed co-op as a wayto take control of key conflict zones in the galaxy is a natural extension of the premise of Mass Effect 3.

Why did you decide not to include it as a part of the main campaign?
Our priority and focus with Mass Effect 3 has and always will be to deliver a complete and satisfying single player experience.

Does the addition of co-op multiplayer missions impact the scope or quality of the single-player experience?
No. A dedicated team from our recently formed BioWare Montreal studio has been focused on creating the multiplayer game features while the main game continued to be developed by the team in BioWare Edmonton. Both teams are integrated under the same leadership group that produced Mass Effect 1 and 2, led by Casey Hudson. BioWare remains dedicated to delivering one of the most amazing single-player campaigns gamers have ever experienced.

How did developing multiplayer impact the single player game?
BioWare is dedicated and focused on delivering an engaging, fun, and action-packed experience for Mass Effect 3, one that lives up the BioWare standard. To reach that level of quality, last year BioWare opened a studio in Montreal that is home to designers, programmers, engineers, and other developers. Both studios work together as partners, lead by the core Mass Effect team, unified in a single vision. Under the direction of Casey Hudson and other team veterans, both studios make contributions to both the single player and multiplayer modes in Mass Effect 3. Rest assured that no compromises were made to either of these modes in the development of Mass Effect 3.

Which characters can I play in co-op multiplayer? Can I play as Commander Shepard?
Commander Shepard’s part in the war will take place in the single-player campaign, as will that of other beloved characters in the franchise such as Garrus, Ashley, and Liara…these characters do not appear in the multiplayer missions. In multiplayer, players will create custom characters to fight on different and unique fronts in the war. This will include the ability to play as favorites like Turians, Krogans, Asari and more… each with their own unique set of abilities.

What if I don’t like multiplayer – will my experience be negatively impacted?
Mass Effect 3 is a complete, standalone game that will deliver a satisfying story experience, even if you choose not to try multiplayer. The Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War system and all of the individual components are meant to complement that amazing game and can be enjoyed on their own or as part of the Galaxy at War experience.

What if I am not good at / do not like multiplayer? Will my readiness rating go down?
ME3 is a story about a war against overwhelming force where the most you can hope for us survival. The more you do to fight that war, the more you can change that story into a more optimistic one. You can reach the highest levels of success in the single player experience alone, but Galaxy at War gives you alternative ways to get there. It’s about choice, and allowing players to find their own ways to stay immersed in the Mass Effect universe.

Will you be adding any additional maps or modes through DLC?
We can’t comment on specifics right now, but can confirm that we are planning on having DLC for Mass Effect 3.

Do save games from ME1 or ME2 impact the co-op multiplayer missions?
No.

Do characters level up in co-op multiplayer? What is the progression system?
Character progression, weapon upgrading and leveling up is present in co-op. We’ll release more information on this topic in the months leading up to launch.

Is there more info about the other platforms of Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War?
We are not going into details about the other components of the Galaxy at War at this time except to say we are designing each to make sense for that platform. Each component will be able to affect a player’s “Galactic Readiness” level in a different way. Again, participation in any or all ME3:GaW elements is entirely optional.

Pre-order bonuses for ME3 have been announced.

Could there be anything better for RPG fans than the upcoming March 6 release of Mass Effect 3? How about some nifty Mass Effect 3 pre-order bonuses that give you FREE GUNS in exchange for your early investment? I hope you like that sound of that, because it's totally what's happening here.

Electronic Arts and BioWare have gone ahead and confirmed the details for Mass Effect 3's pre-order bonuses with a newly launched page on the game's official website. Put money down early on the game with any participating retailer (GameStop, Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart and, of course, Origin) to receive the M55 Argus assault rifle. Origin pre-orders also get the AT12 Raider shotgun while GameStop pre-order come with N7 Warfare gear, which includes an additional assault rifle.

Those who already have a pre-order, don't change a thing. You'll get your Stuff. Read more about the promotion in the game's forums (via Joystiq).

Mass Effect 3 Demo Coming February 14, Includes Kinect Support
Posted Today 7:37 AM - By Adam Rosenberg

BioWare has a Valentine's Day gift to share with its fans. Mass Effect 3, which finally hits stores on March 6, will be getting a playable demo on February 14 that includes both single-player and multiplayer content. The demo is coming Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on the same day, but only those with a Battlefield 3 online pass will be able to access the multiplayer content on day one; the rest will have to wait until February 17.

As an added bonus, the Xbox 360 version of the demo will also include support for the game's Kinect controls. You can see the new feature in action right now in our CES coverage. The single player portion of the demo focuses on the attack on Earth that occurs at the start of the game while the online content is set later on, and allows players to check out the customization features.

ass Effect 3 Kinect Voice Recognition In Action -- "James, Throw Grenades!"
Posted Today 6:00 AM - By Nikole Zivalich

When Microsoft and BioWare revealed Mass Effect 3 would have Kinect integration I was skeptical. Time has passed and my skepticism has blossomed into excitement. Jessica Chobot was at CES where BioWare finally let us test out Kinect's integration with Mass Effect 3. After watching this video, I am a believer. "Kaidan, I love you." Oh sorry, just practicing.

For months leading up to the official Mass Effect 3 multiplayer reveal, anxious franchise fans drummed up countless worst case scenarios for the added gameplay feature – worried that anything but a single player campaign would detract from the personal story they had spent two full games crafting. The concerns weren’t entirely unfounded – especially with more and more developers cramming half-baked multiplayer into single player games (we’re looking at you Dead Space 2).http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-3-special-forces-multiplayer-trailer-benk-127536/

With as heavy an emphasis on story and drama as Mass Effect 3 seems to have, it may be easy to forget just how devoted the developers at BioWare are to setting a new height in terms of combat. Considering just how many shooters and action titles are being released these days, bringing new challenges to players isn’t as easy as it used to be. But according to Mass Effect 3‘s lead designer, every mechanic and system will be put to use to make the game’s higher difficulties as punishing as possible.

Every three months, game publisher EA tells the public that one of its upcoming games, Mass Effect 3 will be coming out for consoles (of course!), PC (expected) and "handheld/mobile" (huh?).

Mass Effect 3 will be out in less than five weeks, so here we are wondering what it's about. It won't be a 3DS or Vita game, it seems. Any maybe it's not even a game. Here's what an EA rep told Kotaku today:

"There will be "handheld/mobile" products tied to Mass Effect 3, as noted in our past few earnings announcements. They are part of the Galaxy at War system. We will have more details to share soon."

That's semi-helpful. Maybe it's a game. Maybe it's some sort of tracking app for the Galaxy at War element of Mass Effect 3. But what's Galaxy at War? It's a meta-game that connects single-player and multiplayer of Mass Effect 3, somehow inviting players into various missions that will more swiftly earn them enough "galactic readiness" points to get the game's best ending(s?). When EA reps first described this system to me it sounded like there could be a Facebook component, too, but that was just my speculation about which they'd only look at me with stone-faced expressions.

First, it was multiplayer. Then it was mobile. Surely Mass Effect 3 would stop there. Ever heard of Facebook?

Bioware’s epic action/RPG and Game Rant’s #1 most anticipated game of 2012 is now stepping into the world of Facebook “gaming,” with the application titled Mass Effect 3: Mission Command.

http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-3-facebook-game-rewards-xbox-360-row-128811/

BioWare’s final installment in the Mass Effect Commander Shepard trilogy is set for release in just over a month. Despite the fact that very few gamers have even gone hands-on with a demo, much less the final build of Mass Effect 3, plenty of franchise fans are already stressed out at the prospect that this could be BioWare’s last installment in the series.

However, even though the developer maintains that Mass Effect 3 will mark the end of the Commander Shepard storyline, the game’s Associate Producer, Mike Gamble, asserts that BioWare still envisions plenty of stories worth telling in the game’s universe – possibly in the form of prequels, sequels, or even spin-offs.

http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-prequel-sequel-stories-game-saves-benk-128852/

Mass Effect is taking over the world. The upcoming release of Mass Effect 3 (and the delay which brought it here) has caused BioWare’s upcoming sci-fi shooter/RPG to become one of the most talked about games of this year and last. Because of the delay, it’s been Game Rant’s most anticipated game of the year two years in a row, and after all this waiting, we’re only a few weeks away.

Props to Electronic Arts and BioWare for making this original property explode. Mass Effect 3 is making headlines for introducing multiplayer to the franchise, and if action figures and an art book that ship with DLC isn’t enough, how about a Mass Effect mobile app?

http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-3-mobile-robk-128551/

On February 14th, whilst human beings around the world are showing their affection for one another, BioWare will be showing their affection for fans by gracing them with a Mass Effect 3 demo. But, with this being a demo of all facets of the Mass Effect 3 experience (including multiplayer) there was the concern some would be left out.

Thankfully, perhaps keeping in the spirit of the Holiday, Microsoft has brought word to BioWare that they will be offering any who download the ME3 demo a special Xbox Live Gold membership “trial” so that they can participate in the multiplayer.

Gamers can be a tricky crowd to please – change too little, and you’ll get slammed for not being innovative, change too much and you risk losing your fans. With Mass Effect 2, BioWare felt the effects of the latter, as some gamers claimed they focused more on making a shooter than an RPG. Thankfully, for that group, BioWare has listened, and will be adding a number of new RPG elements to Mass Effect 3.

A week ago we found out the surprising, yet exciting news that Electronic Arts and BioWare would be launching “handheld/mobile” products alongside the release of Mass Effect 3 that directly tie into the game. Combined with the fact that Mass Effect 3 is shipping with a story-focused multiplayer mode titled “Galaxy at War” and that merchandise – from action figures to art books – would include DLC codes related to that, we figured the mobile apps would also work in some way with the core game.

http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-infiltrator-screenshots-robk-129623/

The notion of a pre-launch DLC announcement is hardly shocking anymore – as more and more developers line-up large-scale post-release content campaigns.

While it’s nothing new to hear that DLC has been planned for Mass Effect 3, in the form of in-game items, playable characters, and single player missions, it might come as a surprise to some gamers to find out that GameStop (at least one of them) may already be taking pre-orders for a yet-to-be-announced add-on titled, “From Dust.”

http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-3-dlc-from-dust-pre-order-benk-129626/

Part of what makes the Mass Effect series, which next month with culminate in the release of Mass Effect 3, is its ability to craft a compelling story amidst some stunning visuals. Case in point, these new screenshots released for the game.

Obviously, since these are screenshots there is no dialogue to bolster the dramatic tension that one must assume exists in some of these scenes, but the pictures sure look pretty don’t they?

Early Mass Effect 3 Copies To Be Sent To Space And Back
By Stephen Johnson
2/16/2012 02:46 PM PT

This is the greatest publicity stunt that has ever been undertaken in gaming history -- To hype the release of Mass Effect 3, Electronic Arts is releasing copies of the game a week early... but it's releasing them into space, strapped to weather balloons.

Each of the six space-bound games will reach the edge of interstellar space, then float back down to earth. Thanks to onboard GPS devices, fans can track their return to the Earth on masseffect.com to find a copy. If you're lucky enough to wrestle the game away from other fans, you'll have ME3 a week before release date.

The balloons are launching from New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Berlin, London and Paris, so if you live close to any of those places, you might be able to pick up a game... of course, the games could crash into the ocean, into the middle of a 6 lane super-highway, or through someone's roof or something, but all that adds to the fun, if you ask me.

Hot on the heels of news rumors that a certain GameStop store was already selling pre-order activation codes for a yet-to-be-announced Mass Effect 3 DLC pack, BioWare’s Executive Producer for the Mass Effect series, Casey Hudson, has started to open up about the developer’s post launch content plans

http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-3-dlc-new-adventures-bioware-benk-133908/

It’s hard to imagine where BioWare would be without Drew Karpyshyn. A lead writer on venerable titles like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, and Mass Effect 2, Karpyshyn joined BioWare 12 years ago and was indispensable in seeing the Canadian game developer become synonymous with top tier storytelling

http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-kotor-lead-writer-drew-karpyshyn-retires-brian-134075/

With the release of Mass Effect 3 approaching, the time was certainly right for Director Caleb Evans and his production team to release a teaser for the upcoming fan film Red Sand. While based in the same universe as Mass Effect 3 -- and notably starring the voice actor for Commander Shepard, Mark Meer -- the film will take place before Shepard entered relevance, with Mark Meer playing a completely different character.

http://gamerant.com/red-sand-mass-effect-fan-film-johnj-133551/

Fans of the Mass Effect franchise certainly don’t need to be convinced that picking up a copy of Mass Effect 3 is an absolute must for March. With as much buzz and momentum as a franchise could possibly have, Mass Effect 3 is easily the most anticipated game of 2012 for more gamers than you can shake an Omniblade at, including our own writing staff

One aspect of Mass Effect 2 that left some fans scratching their heads was the watered-down RPG elements and simplification compared to what the original game offered players. Sure, they still existed on some level, but for the most part, Mass Effect 2 was a shooter that happened to tell an interesting story.

So let's see. I'm going out on a limb here, and am going to say that the DLC for ME3 will work like Dragon Age, with the post-game save holding immediately before the final battle.......that way the final battle is still the finale, but you can still include story dlc.

Drew is leaving!!:mad::( But at least that means we'll get some awesome books.

Yeah, some people were whining about the simplification of ME2, and the rest of us thought ME1's RPG elements were so over the top detailed that it actually detracted from the game. Hopefully ME3 can hit the middle ground between the two.

+1 this. After comparing the two, I thought ME1's elements wound up coming across as overkill. I was surprised when I played ME2, but I certainly didn't complain either.

Want to play Mass Effect 3 when it launches next month, but don’t want to leave your house? Lucky you! Electronic Arts and Sony announced today that the digital version of BioWare’s upcoming RPG-shooter can be pre-ordered from the PlayStation Network.

http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-3-psn-mole-134521/

Ask a fan of Mass Effect where the series ranks in the echelons of gaming bliss, and chances are they’ll have it ranked right up towards the top. Ask a Mass Effect detractor where the game goes astray, and they’ll point to minor flaws in combat, narrative, or RPG elements – but nothing that depicts a second rate gaming experience. With Mass Effect 3 set to release on March 6, it's being branded as the most infallible installment of the series to date, with nary a flaw to get in Commander Shepard's way. http://gamerant.com/5-things-ruin-mass-effect-3-brian-134696/

Even though it has taken three whole games, Fem Shep, the female version of Commander Shepard that countless gamers use to play through their Mass Effect adventures, is finally getting the attention she deserves. While, previously, marketing has been relegated to focusing on the male version of Commander Shepard we have come to be familiar with, BioWare has made a big push to place Fem Shep right alongside him for Mass Effect 3

Despite a serious outpouring of fan disappointment over the From Ashes DLC for Mass Effect 3, BioWare is keeping their marketing train trucking undeterred. Of course, before getting to some of the more important promotional pieces for From Ashes, Creative Director Casey Hudson had to do a little damage control and hopefully set the record straight for fans that were making assumptions.

http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-3-from-ashes-screenshots-tao-135415/

What would you do during a Reaper invasion?

The latest TV spot for Mass Effect 3 seeks to form a more human connection with its audience by portraying, well, real humans, whose 22nd Century Earth-lives are ground to screeching halt by the invading meta-destructive race. Legend has it they haven’t feasted on civilization for about 50,000 years -- so you can expect that some serious binging is about to ensue.

While most gamers’ first inclination, if presented with an early copy of Mass Effect 3, would be to pop the game into their respective console, two gamers who actually secured a copy took a completely different direction with this opportunity.

http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-3-raffle-legal-trouble-tao-135656/

Though gamers have yet to experience the final leg of the Commander Shepard portion of the Mass Effect universe, there is no doubt that they are already chomping at the bit for more. While BioWare has said that they would love to continue working in that space (pun intended), what type of game they would like to make is still a mystery.

Mass Effect 3 is, without a doubt, one of the most highly-anticipated titles of the year – easily earning a spot on our 25 Most Anticipated Games of 2012 list. However, over the last week, news broke that the action-RPG title would see paid campaign DLC on day one

Mass Effect 3 is less than one week away from release in North America – with international release windows following closely behind. As a result, details have been coming fast and furious for the third installment in BioWare’s high-profile action-RPG. This week alone we’ve discovered that the title will provide an estimated 30-40 hours worth of gameplay, include an after-credits sequence, and offer day one DLC, “From Ashes.”

http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-3-normandy-video-tour-benk-135985/

When Gears of War 3 came out, it surprised many of us for sneakily including a microtransaction system where players had to pay for measly weapon skins – you know, the stuff that’s built into other shooters that we shouldn’t have to pay for. The real problem with that money grab attempt was that Epic Games priced each weapon skin at absurdly high amounts, that when combined with the DLC Season’s pass cost games a fortune. It was designed only for the rich, so to speak.

http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-3-dlc-prices-vault-robk-136228/

Have you beaten Mass Effect and its sequel? Are you eagerly awaiting the midnight or launch day opening of stores to pick up your copy of Mass Effect 3 on Tuesday, March 6th?

If so, and if you've not had a chance to complete all of the DLC offerings for Mass Effect 2, we've prepared this guide to help you make the best of this last chance pre-ME3 weekend. Time is of the essence and there are five DLC offerings to choose from. Below is information on all of them and our thoughts on whether or not they are must be played before jumping into the beginning of the end for Commander Shepard's story.

http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-2-dlc-guide-mass-effect-3-robk-136262/

Can’t wait to play Mass Effect 3? Neither can we. In a move that underscores just how big an event the game’s March 6th launch has become, GameStop stores across the United States will open at midnight. Eager fans who find it impossible to wait until Friday morning will be able to pick up the game at one of more than 3600 locations nation-wide.

Choice has always been an integral part of any good BioWare RPG, but typically in service of a dual morality system those choices come down to “the good option” and “the bad option.” In the Mass Effect series, those good and bad choices delegated a set of points, Renegade or Paragon, to the player that determined whether they were a good or bad person in the game. The system was fairly black and white, and usually resulted in the player skewing one way or the other from the outset, and not deviating too far from that pattern as Commander Shepard’s adventure continued.

What choices have y'all made from Mass Effect 1 till the oncoming Mass Effect 3?

ME1 choices:
Romanced Liara
Saved Rachni
Saved Kaidan
Saved Wrex
Saved the Council
Udina to the Council

ME2 choices:
Stayed loyal to Liara
Saved Legion, think I destroyed heretics
Saved Sidonis
Total crew loyalty
Saved crew from Collectors
Survived Suicide Mission, everyone
Hopefully convinced Quarians to avoid war with Geth
Told Mordin to keep data
Blew up Collector Base

You put Udina on the Council? Why would you help promote that douche?

For ME 1:
Romanced Ashley
Saved Rachni
Saved Ash
Kept Wrex alive
Saved the Council
Placed Anderson on Council
Generally went Paragon for conversations, such as Zhu's Hope.

ME 2:

Am in the middle, but by the end, I'll be like this.

I'll stay loyal to Ash, but set up a save immediately prior to the final mission that will allow me to romance any of them.
Save Legion, reprogram heretics.
Will most likely save Sidonis.
Total crew loyalty, save crew, and 100% survival.
Unsure yet on Quarians.
Tell Mordin to keep data.
Destroy Collector base.
Again mostly Paragon.

It seems like with every positive (like the new Reputation system) that is revealed in regards to Mass Effect 3, there follows a negative (like the copious amounts of paid DLC) that keeps fans’ excitement in an almost neutral state. Sure there are plenty of reasons to get excited about Mass Effect 3, it is the culmination of two game’s worth of storylines, but it almost feels like with each passing day BioWare hits us with yet another unfortunate “surprise.”

Well that kind of sucks about the saves. I'm a little concerned and here's why...I originally bought the 4 GB model Xbox, and later bought the 320 GB hard drive for it. My saves are on the hard drive, which I removed from the Xbox before sending it in for repairs (per the support directions). I'll hopefully get my original one back, but in the off chance I get a refurbished model back, will that screw up my ability to import my saves?

My saves are on the hard drive, which I removed from the Xbox before sending it in for repairs (per the support directions). I'll hopefully get my original one back, but in the off chance I get a refurbished model back, will that screw up my ability to import my saves?

It "shouldn't" effect your ability to do so

I'm in the process of an ME1 session where I'm doing the same as before, cept saving Ashley and naming Anderson to council

If your saves are on the hard drive, you will be fine, based on that. It's only if you transfer your saves to cloud storage.

As for the rest of the article, I think they're getting a little too nitpicky. Yes, there are preorder bonuses for retailers....not new, and definitely not worth buying multiple copies of the game for. Most of the multiplayer unlocks sound like it will be extra, or early, items you can unlock or buy anyway. And I highly doubt anything that stays exclusive will be gamebreaking.

Yeah, but you get to change her. That's the great part. Aside from being blue, I have yet to see the draw of Liara.

Honestly, out of all of them, Tali's the only one that's not damaged between the two games.

Slightly edited from Independence Day, seems fitting taking back Earth.

"Good morning. In less than a day spacecraft from here will join others from around the galaxy. And you will be launching the largest battle in this history of this galaxy.
We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore.
We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps its fate that today is the 4th of July, and you will once again be fighting freedom, not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution -- but from annihilation.
We're fighting for our right to live, to exist.
And should we win the day, the 4th of July will no longer be known as a human holiday, but as the day when the galaxy declared in one voice:

"We will not go quietly into the night!
We will not vanish without a fight!
We're going to live on! We're going to survive!" Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!

Smoke, you'll find the first one plays like a typical RPG.....shitload of items/modifications/etc, massive amounts of minor bs you can find by exploring outside the beaten path, all that. And the Mako sucks ass. The second turns down the excessive RPG part, a little too much.

There has been a lot of controversy over EA and BioWare's day one DLC for Mass Effect, the highly questionable From Ashes downloadable content. While some consumers are feeling burned, an ex-BioWare developer defended the practice at the Game Developers Conference.

ShackNews reports that Christina Norman -- formerly a designer at BioWare, now with Riot Games -- gave a one-minute rant at GDC on the topic of downloadable content hitting the first day of a game's release. Here is the text as provided by ShackNews:

"There's no point in releasing DLC a year after your game has come out when most people have already sold your game back to GameStop three times. That means getting it out early; that means even day-one DLC. That is a terrible thing to some players. Players rant -- they know nothing about this DLC that's coming out except its name. But then it's, 'Oh this game must be incomplete, the game must be ruined.' Game developers are not evil. Some are evil. But most are not evil.

"We just want to release awesome stuff. Players, please give us a chance. Judge our games based on what they are. Judge the DLC based on what it is. Stop thinking you're a producer and telling us when and where we should be building our content."

I think that Norman presents a strong opinion here, although speaking of the Mass Effect 3 DLC in particular, I think judging it on what it is still produces some problems. What are your thoughts on the topic of day one DLC? Are you against it in all cases or do you think sometimes it can be okay?

It's amazing how pathetic some fans can be.

Especially as we're not talking about "Day 1 DLC", but rather about collector edition content that was made available to non-CE purchasers. Want the "Day 1 DLC" for free? Buy the N7 edition like I did, download the 680mb file that shows it's clearly not disc content, and stop your crying about how you're "getting screwed by the man"....

If I remember correctly, there's a Prothean crew member...much like Wrex or Primarch Victus is a crew member, as in they hang out on the ship and are able to be talked to. The DLC crew member is more James/Liara...able to go on missions, has a unique quest chain, etc.

This is just the opinion of a "pathetic fan" (anyone who has looked closely at my xbox profile in the last few years would know that:D). I take these "Day 1 DLC" things a case at a time. This time I feel it was good for the company short term and bad for players. They used a species that they knew was going to get the fans drooling but did not announce it till it was too late for most people to get the collectors edition (more on that later). The original adds/flyers/announcements for ME3 Collector's edition that I saw had the Character/Mission near the bottom almost as an afterthought. To a lot of people this reminded them of similar characters from ME2, Dragon Age etc. Fun and good but not as crucial or lore heavy as a Promethean should be. Why choose that specific race and launch it day one if not to max out possible returns with no thought to the customers?

The "buy the collector's edition if it bothers you" argument would be valid...if they actually made enough copy's for people to have that option. The people who bought this version (and did not get screwed by the retailer making more reservations then they could possibly fill or mixing up who ordered what) probably did not do it solely for the DLC. There are a lot of extras in that package for a mere 20 dollars. In fact, from a purely financial perspective, it is possible the limited quantities was in part to increase the DLC purchases. It has to be more cost effective to sell a standard plus DLC then to create, package and ship all the extra goodies. Larger profit margin at the expense of consumers who would have gladly paid for the bells and whistles.

My opinion on what they should have done though is also different from what some others think. I think it should have been used as part of their "10 Dollar Project". For those of you who do not know..that is one way they are trying to combat used sales. Think Mass Effect 2 character you got for buying brand new and had to buy as dlc if you got it used. Instead they chose to use online multiplayer in that role (because that is what the series is known for right?) Now people who are not interested in playing online but who still love the series lose nothing by waiting a few months till price drops put the DLC+game at less then $60 used and the publisher loses another sale.

Anyway this has been random insights into what PlasticStingrays thinks and feels on the topic at hand and is in no way intended to start fights/genicide/unicorn rebellions/children's tears etc.

I have been a fan of Bioware for a very long time. I played the KotOR, Jade Empire, Dragon Age and Mass Effect games as they came out and would be playing TOR if my computer could run it. Not too many companies I trust as much as them and this is the only company I would buy DLC from without having touched the game first. I did buy Ashes..the previous post was not meant to be against Bioware just an opinion on day one DLC. Do not want anyone getting confused.

Sorry, but saying the companion/mission wasn't a major factor for getting the CE is just silly. And yes, it absolutely makes sense to not spoil the biggest companion addition in the entire series.

In the end though, it all comes down to whether or not you believe they lied. Based on download size, I don't.

Despite impressive sales numbers and overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics (read our Mass Effect 3 review), BioWare’s conclusion to the Commander Shepard trilogy has been marred by a myriad of fan complaints

http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-3-ending-response-bioware-casey-hudson-benk-138337/

For gamers following all of the Mass Effect 3 news closely, the thought of DLC is synonymous with controversy. The day one ‘From Ashes’ DLC, suffice to say, left quite a few peeved for not only spoiling a part of the game but for not coming built into the launch product while some of it was installed on the disc.

I think that BioWare has something up their sleeves because the ending just isnt their normal work. I think they got pissed and released a ending that wasnt well thought out on purpose because of the leaks. From what Ive heard about the From Ashes DLC that it wasnt supposed to be a DLC at first that it was an in game mission. But because they couldnt get it to fit in right that they were going to fine tune it and send it out at a later date but because Microsoft/Xbox revealed it way before BioWares intended release date they had a Day 1 release with it.

This is all speculation so dont take it as fact but thats what Im hoping for because the very ending was actually plagerized from a bands album cover Ill post that link later.

This weekend, Bioware is hosting a Mass Effect 3 Challenge Weekend, so your plans are made. Here's how it works: You join your friends online on Xbox 360 and PC between Friday, 3/16 at 5PM PST and Monday, 3/18 at 5AM PST and play some co-op. Participants will have an opportunity to attain rewards to be used in Commander Shepard’s battle to take Earth back.

Here are the challenges:

Any player who is part of a squad that beats the Reaper faction on Silver difficulty or better will unlock one Commendation Pack. This means that at least one member of the squad must be extracted at the end of the mission – this will earn all squad members the reward. Each player can earn a maximum of one pack and each pack contains a random N7 Arsenal Weapon. Originally only available as single-player weapons via the N7 Collector’s Edition, these multiplayer variants will be exceptionally rare and are NOT obtainable through regular purchasable Reinforcement Packs. The Commendation Packs will contain one of the following guns at random: (1) N7 Crusader Shotgun, (2) N7 Eagle Pistol, (3) N7 Hurricane SMG and (4) N7 Valiant Sniper Rifle.

Destroy as many brutes as possible – if the multiplayer community kills a combined 1 MILLION brutes within the hours of the challenge, ALL players will receive a Victory Pack as a reward.

Along with the challenge, Bioware also sent over some interesting stats about how Mass Effect 3's multiplayer is going so far. Here are the numbers:

Ok, I've got around 30hrs into this game and I freakin love it! From the missions to the story, so far, classic Bioware Mass Effect. A few things though....no matter what the ending is, like it or not, it's they're baby. They ended it the way they wanted. I may not like it either, but I'm just along for the ride ya know?

Secondly, I've been confused by all the "From Ashes" DLC talk, as I never ordered the CE of the game, yet I've managed to play the DLC missions and recruit the Prothean to my crew. So......I guess I lucked out? Anyway, I wish this wasn't the end man....:(

I'm going to be truthful here...After I saw the best ending on you tube, I was like "what is this crap?" I have read a shit load on the bioware forums and after reading all of it... I was so disappointed in the ending options, that I canceled my pre-order. For me... they kind of ruined it, this isn't my Mass Effect and I don't think it will be.

Yes the ending was crap but the game right up until then was great.

For over week the hottest topics on our site and across the gaming community have focused on Mass Effect 3, for better or worse. It’s good to see BioWare’s latest game, and the one we chose as Game Rant’s most anticipated game of the year, earning the attention it deserves, we just didn’t expect it to do so for all the wrong reasons.

For such and acclaimed and successful game, Mass Effect 3 sure has managed to enrage a lot of players. Needless to say, I’m referring specifically to the game’s controversial ending, which won’t be covered here. Inspired and united by their distaste for Mass Effect 3′s conclusion, a legion of fans began petitioning developer BioWare for a new ending.

Though, over the past week or so, it has been Mass Effect 3‘s single player, specifically its ending, that has been getting the bulk of gamers’ attention – with everything from a petition to donations being collected in an effort to alter the game’s events – there is still a whole other portion of the game that BioWare wants gamers to get interested in. In fact, participating in the multiplayer in Mass Effect 3 helps improve the quality of the ending players receive in the single player, along with completing tasks in the iOS game and what not.

Which ending did you see Jack? There's 3. "Control", "Destroy", or "Synthesis"....?

So I did my part last night, killed a crapload of Brutes. Kinda funny, but none of my highest classes and guns showed up.

I am a little annoyed at the MP store at the moment though. Bought a Spectre pack, which had a character, a gun, and a mod....score, right? Wrong, I've already unlocked all three of them. A store to buy class/races, guns, etc is cool and all......but not when it's 100% random.

As for the ending, I'm still iffy. It was good in itself, but not necessarily new in Sci-fi. I can see how it could be added to and even why Bioware would do so. I do think some of the whining online is a bit obscene, and find some humor in the complainers that seem to forget that they're not the only ones with an opinion.

I saw the Synthesis ending. Aka "the best ending" and read about the others.

Why is Synthesis the "best" ending? Because the VI said so?

I personally thought the destruction ending was "the best ending." Not only because I had already proven VI-child's hypothesis wrong, through my interactions with both the Geth and EDI, but because

....spoiler.......

Shep's not dead.

After I chose the Synthesis ending, I instantly regretted it. I wanted to kill the Reapers for 3 games, and I copped out. I did a separate save file though so I'm gonna go back and redo it.

They give you a save at the "post-explosion" scene, where you get up from Harbinger's blast. I used that to check them all out.

But being me, I've got a save for pre-Cerberus Headquarters, and Pre-Go Home because those scenes were pretty awesome.

I'm not saying it is. That was just the general consensus, over on the bioware forum.

My bad, thought you were saying you thought it was the best of three.

There's a lot of talk lately about the whole ending being an indoctrination attempt. Sounds kind of cool, if true.

Indoctrination? Like if the entire ending was a lie? It never happened?

I have to agree with everyone, then ending wasnt my favorite but i got the concept what they were trying to do, but i choose the Green ending and i wanna know what will happen to my Shepard if and when they release Mass Effect 4. I loved the game entirely but the ending wasnt what i wanted.

If you choose the destroy ending if your EMS is high enough you can see Shepard start to breathe before it ends. if you choose the control or synthesis ending you can see shepards eyes change to what it looks like a husks eyes. This theory is being debated because its the only one that shows Shepard breathing at the end. Theres also a apple app thats titled Mass Effect 3: The Final Hours, that shows how alot of the ending was thrown out and shows that the ending was thrown together at the last minute. There is a couple of threads on BioWare Social Network that goes into more detail I can post links if poeple wants. There is also a thread from a guy that used to work as a PR for a big video game title company, that gives his insight on the madness at hand. If you want me to post these links Ill be happy to.

It depends on your Effective Military Strength not necessarily your Glactic Readiness Rating, the GRR is to help you if you dont have a high EMS rating. Heres the link that explains it:

http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/323/index/9665384 . But the destroy ending is the only one that has the extra bit at the end. Heres the indoc/hallucination theory link:

Kinda. The theory goes that the ending is a final indoctrination attempt by Harbinger. Basically a dream. If you choose Symbiosis (green) or Assimilation (blue), you'll notice that Shep gets Illusive Man/Saren eyes......aka indoctrination eyes. If you go Destruction (red), your EMS is over 5k, AND you're playing either a second playthrough or an imported playthrough, at the very end you'll get a bonus scene, reminiscent of Halo's "legendary" endings. In it, you see a person in Shep's N7 armor, with N7 tags, lying in what is most likely the rubble of London. The figure looks dead, but then gasps for breath.

If you chose the green ending....Shepard died.

Since any new Mass Effect will focus on new characters, it'll probably mean he's a codex entry.
