What'd you like to see? My take:

Napalm: After initial airstrike, the burning jelly stays behind with flames on most surfaces. Sorta denies the area to the enemy, but they can navigate through it at the risk of taking damage/death.

11 kills and you pull out the laptop, mark a section and a large smoke grenade goes off in that area. the enemy hear swishing sounds and blood splatters on the screen and everyone dies in the area :mrgreen:

The killstreaks was something I really didn't care for in this game. I didn't mind it so much in world at war because I didn't think it got as out of hand. I will say the dogs did get pretty annoying though. So with that being said I wish they would leave it to like three things were you could get them after 3, 5, and 7. Than that is it for me I would like it better.

I personally think the kill streak is a stupid gimmick and then they made it worse by having a death streak. I will never ever buy a MW game again after the first one. That franchise is the most glitchiest, biggest lag fest, most hacked, and most cheated at game around. Oh yeah way over priced for 4-6 hour single player with that horrid multi-player and over priced map packs. Sorry but just my opinion.

Activision executives confirm new first-person installment in series will arrive in latter half of next year; no word on developer.



Today, Activision Blizzard issued a better-than-expected earnings report in which it announced a $51 million quarterly profit. In a conference call with analysts afterwards, executives revealed further details on the publisher's future plans.



One detail that was revealed was that the Call of Duty series will once again have a fresh first-person installment late next year. "We will launch a new first-person action title during the back half of 2011," Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said. This sentiment was later echoed by Activision COO Thomas Tippl, who said that "Next year's Call of Duty will be a first-person shooter."



The executives did not name the game or which studio was developing it. A likely suspect is Modern Warfare 3, which court documents identified as being in development at Infinity Ward as of May. That same month, Activision said the studio, which had lost over 35 members following the firing of its founders in March, continued to work on its "next big project."


A second Call of Duty is also in the works from newly formed studio Sledgehammer Games. Though Activision has said this title would take the Call of Duty series into the action-adventure genre, third-person, a May job listing indicated it would also be a first-person shooter. Activision has not said when the Sledgehammer title will be released, but said it was not the unnamed COD project slated for next year--presumably Modern Warfare 3.

After struggling with reaching a potential release date of November, it looks like Infinity Ward, under the direction of Activision, has enlisted the help of developer Sledgehammer Games to complete their latest Call of Duty game, perhaps titled Modern Warfare 3.


Most likely not being able to meet the strict time demands needed to put out a top tier title after having lost their leadership and a ton of creative talent, Activision has not only turned to Sledgehammer but also to Raven Software to act as reinforcements, boosting the man power.

When it was first announced that one of the next iterations of the Call of Duty franchise (most likely Modern Warfare 3), would feature Ghost from Modern Warfare 2, many passed it off as another rumor regarding the franchise’s uncertain future.


As it turns out, thanks to an article from UK’s Official PlayStation Magazine, that Call of Duty title might actually be in development. Furthermore, the magazine claims that this next title will be developed by none other than the new version of Infinity Ward.


Beyond the mention in OPM, there is no word as to whether this is definitively Modern Warfare 3, the same title that Infinity Ward needed to have both Raven Software and Sledgehammer step in on to develop for this year’s annual Call of Duty Fall release, or if this is something IW has on their docket for the future.

Upon visiting this site, findmakarov.com, you’re presented with a countdown timer with under 5 days left to go. Why, the Game Developers Conference is going to be happening in 5 days is it not? How interesting!

Starting on February 28th and ending March 4th, the GDC is likely where Activision’s big Call of Duty reveal will pop up. Modern Warfare 2 was also revealed at GDC back in 2009.

yesterday we brought you news that we had received a Modern Warfare 3 care package from Activision teasing a major announcement. Whatever the announcement was supposed to be, the appearance of one of the series’ villains and an online countdown led us to believe that it had something to do with a Call of Duty title. Today, the publisher has come out and denied any connection to either the dog tags or the website FindMakarov.com counting down to… something. There goes our hope for new Call of Duty details in time for GDC. As it turns out, GameSlice‘s Geoff Keighley confirmed that the site is owned by Toronto-based group We Can Pretend (as we guessed from the package address info we received). The site is advertising the launch of their newest project based on Call of Duty, not a sequel.

I have been in Gamestop and saw parents buying BO for their little whinny kids who say they have GOT to have it 'cuz all his/(her in some cases) do! All this is, is a way for the company to make MORE money that has already made billions! And I think, that this will sink that mighty money ship! Anybody else think the same or got opinions?

I liked crysis 2 but the multi is really going down hill. The hit detection is crap ( like it takes half a mag to drop some one, crap), the campers are getting ridiculous... always using cloak and the armor along with half of the perks are a toss up. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't and then there are the match making issues....total mess. If this game wants to compete then they really need to step it up.

it seems that a picture from the pages of PlayStation Official Magazine UK has finally dropped a definitive hint at what everyone has been waiting to hear. Unless this is the cruelest redirect ever made in a magazine, the next issue of OPMUK will definitely be dropping details about Modern Warfare 3.

Modern Warfare 3 is allegedly being developed by 3 studios, which include Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games putting together the single player campaign, and Raven Software busy working on the multiplayer modes.

If Activision’s past release schedule is any indication, then Modern Warfare 3 will be seeing available in early November of this year for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

During its earnings call yesterday, Activision released a few interesting notes about its Call of Duty franchise. While some of the really big news — like title, plot, confirmed release date — might remain a mystery, Activision did announce that its next Call of Duty game will have an accompanying “Online Universe.” They also stated that they did not plan on monetizing the features players currently get for free in Call of Duty games.

Two new characters joining the part: Delta Force operatives “Frost” and “Sandman.”
Single player campaign features 15 missions, beginning with Russian attack on Manhattan and ending with confrontation in Dubai.
Story will complete the story arcs set in the series far.
Spec Ops mode returns with two variants: ‘Mission’ and ‘Survival.’ Mission is likely a co-op mode similar to what we saw in MW2 and Survival is the game’s horde mode

Most likely in response to the tremendous amount of Modern Warfare 3 information that leaked today, Infinity Ward and Activision have just released three teaser trailers for the game. While these three trailers are devoid of gameplay they do, however, verify some information that was previously revealed. The most important element to take away from these trailers is that Modern Warfare 3 does exist.


Adding credence to the idea that Modern Warfare 3 picks up right after the events of its predecessor, each of these trailers is set within a prominent city that is under Russian attack. As the player works to find Makarov and bring him to justice they will travel all around the globe with specific visits paid to London, Berlin, and New York, the three settings of these teaser trailers.

Whoops. The good ship Modern Warfare has sprung another leak. In this instance, our anonymous retail sources have provided IGN with a confirmed street date for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Rumours have been circulating around the web for a little while, but IGN can now confirm a release date of November 8. This will almost certainly be a global date.


The poster. And yes, that date is Australian for November 8, 2011.

The photo above shows a retail point-of-sale poster used to promote the game. It's clearly marked with a '08-11-11' release date - and that's pretty definitive. This is an Australian poster too, hence the order of the day/month/year.

This latest leak comes after a string of other unauthorized information leaks over the last few days. IGN has sought confirmation from Activision, but we believe this to be completely authentic.

Activision has announced via its Facebook page that the official Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 world premiere will be on May 23. More specifically, though, it will be during the fourth game of the Western Conference Finals on ESPN.


so there you have it, if you want to watch the reveal when it happens, watch ESPN on May 23. I know nothing about the finals so i have no idea what the time frame is. Basketball fans care to fill us in?

I was talking to Lady and Ironhide a bit about the new spec ops, from the sounds of it they have improved a lot on the previous mode. Having XP and unlocks should really help increase the replay value of the maps, that is what MW2 lacked; I played through them and got the trophies but after that there really wasn't anything left to go back for so i just waited and waited for more missions via DLC....and they never came :(

“Spec Ops will have its own progressive ranking system allowing you to unlock weapons, gear, killstreaks.”

On the topic of multiplayer in Modern Warfare 3, Bowling has repeatedly cautioned gamers to ignore any reports they have heard about the game’s multiplayer that didn’t outright come from him. Activision is now claiming that the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will not just meet the same levels of sophistication as past releases, but will go even further, pushing the entire genre of shooters forward.

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg had no shortage of kind words to say about the new game, and is already raising the collective expectations for both the singleplayer and multiplayer aspects of MW3:

What's being described as the "ultimate fan experience," Activision today announced Call of Duty XP 2011, a two-day community event held in Los Angeles that gives fans an early taste of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 before release.

Attendees will get hands-on with the game's multiplayer and the new Spec Ops survival co-op mode. Additionally, Activision plans to reveal the full feature functionality of Call of Duty Elite service, likely including the price of any premium modes and content.

Fans can also partake in paintball matches set in life-sized recreations of Call of Duty multiplayer maps. Activision also recreated Modern Warfare 2's "The Pit," giving participants a chance to make a real speed-run.


"From the high production values of our live, immersive events - all the way to the smallest details in every design and activity - we're pulling out all the stops to make Call of Duty XP the ultimate gathering for the global community of Call of Duty fans," said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing.

Additional activities include:- Tournaments and prizes for the hardcore and casual fan alike
- Discussion panels and Q&A with Call of Duty developers
- Onsite Call of Duty armory and museum
- AAA live entertainment
- More attractions to be announced
Call of Duty XP 2011 kicks off on September 2nd through the 3rd. Tickets cost $150, however, Activision will donate 100 percent of ticket sales to The Call of Duty Endowment, its non-profit program which aids military veterans.

I think the best part of that is the recreated MP map paintball courses, that would be awesome to do. Probaby would shut up the high KDR trash talkers too when they have to actually go boots on ground use a (almost)real weapon. Or they'd lose and complain that people were lagging and hacking lol. Running the PIT would also be pretty awesome but personally I'd rather do the training course from COD 4, complete with fast roping at the beginning :)

It seems like nearly every other week, as we near the end of October and the beginning of November, that the teams behind Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 will continue to declare supremacy in the modern FPS game space. While Battlefield has struck more fervently and even had some unpleasant statements about the Call of Duty franchise as a whole, Modern Warfare 3’s teams have been a bit more level headed.

as far as I know they have yet to release details on what it will include but if history repeats itself (what? history repeating itself in the COD series? *shocked*) then we should expect something like:

Regular edition - standard game + small preorder bonus available (theme or avatar outfit etc)

hardened edition - regular edition plus special case and art booklet, voucher code for in-game stuff (remastered maps or extra spec ops missions etc) or remastered game (COD 2 HD?)

Veteran edition - Hardened edition plus special MW3 themed toy in a huge box (think MW2's NVGs or BO's RC car) and I would not be surprised to see a voucher for x months of free COD Elite premium service

the pricing will likely be per the usual too, $59-$79-$99

all of this is speculation of course and I apologize if there is already verified info out there but as far as I know they said they will be dropping details at that COD event in september

Activision announced today that the PC version of Modern Warfare 3 will support dedicated servers, just as the original Modern Warfare did. What this means is that Activision is giving players the ability to host their own servers, allowing players full control.

Modern Warfare 2 employed a matchmaking system called IW.net, and while Black Ops allowed players to use dedicated servers, it used a more restrictive system.

While all of the big reveals for Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty Elite will be coming by way of the Call of Duty XP event this weekend, a few details have been leaked from someone who got their hands on the multiplayer demo that will be playable during the event. Though there was initially a video, all that is left are two screenshots and some sparse details including rumored names for the multiplayer maps, a new mode, and a raise in the player cap.

According to the video, and the two screenshots included below, Modern Warfare 3 will be featuring at least one new variant currently called Bomb Mode. What that means exactly we don’t know, but if it’s playable at Call of Duty XP we will know soon enough.

as for the Bomb mode speculation, personally I think they are getting ahead of themselves and looking too far into it. IMO it says "Bomb" as a shorter way of saying sabotage, demolition, and search and destroy (and HC S&D). They've already done this in the past with the various rotating playlists, much like they have grouped together domination and capture the flag as simply "Flags". A new game mode would be cool but I'm definitely not getting my hopes up over this screenshot

Hardened edition leaked, now if you get the map packs for free with elite this might be worth it. But it says access to dlc maps which could mean timed exclusive if I know activision correctly so I will pass on this edition if that is the case.

A leaked European advertisement (sent to Wired.com) for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 shows off all the goodies players receive with the special Hardened Edition.

According to the advertisement, the Hardened Edition of the game (which releases November 8 across all systems), includes:

• The game disc with unique disc art.
• 1 year Call of Duty: Elite membership (which gives you access to downloadable map packs).
• Special Founder status on Call of Duty Elite. (in game emblem, playercard, weapon camouflage, clan XP boost)
• Steelbook Case
• Limited Edition 100+ Page Field Journal with military sketches, diagrams and written entries.

Xbox 360 owners get an exclusive Special Ops Juggernaut avatar outfit, while PS3 owners get an exclusive animated timeline theme.

I just watched the MW3 Multiplayer review from CoD XP 2011 on Inside Xbox. Here's some info for you from Robert Bowling on what to expect.

Revamped Kill Streak system: Turned into a point streak system. You get points for capturing objectives, assists with hardline pro (perks) and other additions in addition to just kills. Allows all new experiences regardless of play-style.

Strike packages: Allows you to customize the point streak system you get based on your play style. You can create packages based on assault (air strikes, helicopters, etc), support (objective based for situational awareness such as ballistic vest and advanced recon) and the specialist (Come in the form of perks. You can set up perks to unlock as kill streaks. After 8 kills you should have all perks available to you. Once you die you start over. No air support but great for lone wolf players.).

Weapon proficiencies: You rank up weapons just as you would yourself. It allows you to further specialize in your preferred weapons by giving you unlocks such as attachments, camo and proficiencies like Less Kick and Less Flinch allowing you to further tailor you custom load out to your play-style.

New Mode: Kill Confirmed: Once you take an enemy down they drop a dog tag. You must claim that dog tag to confirm the kill and gain points. If an enemy claims the dog tag first the kill is denied and you gain no points. If you take an enemy down (example: sniper) a teammate can claim the tag allowing you to gain the points.

Gameplay: Main focus taken away from air support and kill streaks and brought to weapon specialization and player customization.

Far from rinse and repeat. New engines aren't easy to create. Especially those with the graphical fidelity of CODs at 60 fps. As much as people complain, it's still one of the best looking shooters on consoles. Just because they haven't publicized it like Frostbite (1.0,1.5,2.0), the IW Engine as it's called has gone through many revisions in each sequel. MW3 is at 4.0. This isn't the same engine from 2002 and remember that console tech is 6 years old. We're at the limits. Putting out a new COD isn't like Madden with a roster update. Unlike Madden, there's actually competition and every other shooter is nipping at their heels much like every FPS back in the day was a "Halo killer".

As for losing touch with their fans, that's waaaay off base. You'd think the Xp event yesterday would display that. They're giving us exactly what we want. And fans aren't sheep which is a common attack.

I can see what you guys are saying. $50 a year is a bit much. Buy if you get the Hardened Edition you're getting the first year for free, so why not? A year of first releases, free maps and founder status (bragging rights but still nice) for nothing isn't bad at all. I'm going for it at least.

Spec Ops isn't trying to resemble Zombies although zombies did spark a zombie craze and horde mode gameplay. I think its akin to Gears horde mode with a modern slant. I hope survival realizes the promise that was America's Army Overmatch. Anyone remember that? Like the real story of the Debecka Pass in Iraq where SOF/Kurds held off a numerically superior mechanized force with Javelins, Humvees and air support.

Well right after world at war, mw2 decided they should add a coop also so now they're just refining it in mw3 which looks ok but I think they should of made it 4 player coop. But your right the waw zombie mode sparked a horde craze with everything

Pretty much the same but now there will be a dedicated tab where if your clan mates are on playing you can join their game in progress right away. We will also be able to invite, message, set dates and generally be connected all around through Elite. Also after playing with clan mates you can "unlock" the ability to use your unique clan's tag as your game icon in MW3. Looks like we need to start planning our MW3 clan tag as well. Any ideas?

Well I'm definitely going for a recon package then. UAV, Counter UAV and Recon Drone. I'm thinking of replacing Counter UAV with Advanced UAV depending on how it plays out. I'll try to be the eyes and ears for all. You're lucky if you're getting it early. I wish I had your local store. :D

My youngest is only 10 and too young for a contract phone, but has my old one on pay as you go for now. She has her own laptop, and had bedroom furniture, linen etc last year funnily enough.

According to Venture Beat, Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has been partially pirated, and part of it is now available to shady software buccaneers and other miscreants.

Purloined discs reportedly began to spread after an employee at a shipping warehouse in Fresno, Calif. lifted a disc. The disc that was stolen was supposedly Disc two of a two-disk set for the PC. Venture Beat suggests security in that Fresno warehouse may have been too tight for the robber to gank the other DVD. No one knows how many full copies spread this way, but if I know my pirates, I'm guessing somewhere between an ass-load and a butt-ton.

Venture Beat also points to a post on Craigslist supposedly from a pirate, who warns fellow law-scoffers that "The will come get you" if you are caught with an early copy of the game and “you will be fined $5,000″ and it could result in permanent banning from online play. Take this with a grain of salt: I'm not sure who, exactly, will fine you for playing a pirated disc, and if it's a court fine, it would take awhile to actually get to you. Don't get me wrong: You shouldn't pirate games -- it's against the law, morally wrong, and harmful to the game industry itself -- I'm just unsure of the veracity of this particular Craigslist ad.

In other Modern Warfare 3 pirate news, Kotaku posted a YouTube video that supposedly showed the game being played on a PlayStation 3. The vid has been pulled from The YouTubs... which may or may not be an indication of its realness.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set for release on Nov. 8, but the PC version of the game is already in the hands of pirates, according to this VentureBeat report. The PC version of the game (or at least the single player portion of the game) is being sold from pirate circles around the country. Apparently the pirated version of the game originated from a shipping warehouse (run by a huge shipping company) in Fresno, California. An unnamed employee at that warehouse stole one of the discs and started sharing it. Oddly enough VentureBeat reports that the employee was only able to steal Disc Two of the two-disc set that makes up the full PC game.

While this news is probably not welcomed by Activision, it seems to be a regular occurrence right before new Call of Duty games are released: last year Call of Duty: Black Ops was leaked prior to launch, and the year before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was being available illegally prior to its launch.

VentureBeat points out that Activision is investigating the situation and is catching up with some of the people that might have a pirated version of the game in their possession. They point to a post on Craigslist yesterday from an alleged MW3 pirate who warned others not to buy MW3 before the release date because "they will come get you." The post says "you will be fined $5,000″ and it could result in permanent banning from online play. Then the person adds, “I already went through it.”

Are These Modern Warfare 3’s Multiplayer Maps?

Several outlets this morning have posted what appears to be the layouts of the 16 multiplayer maps for Modern Warfare 3, giving fans a glimpse at their size, exploits, bottlenecks and what have you.

The images have been attributed to this user on the site The Tech Game. The images' provenance is unknown, though German language menu options are visible in some shots.

The sixteen maps all conform to the names listed on the Modern Warfare wiki and would appear to be the maps included at launch. Eight of them conform to the list of multiplayer maps first leaked in May and reported by Kotaku, though it's likely names on that list have since been changed.

This week it was reported that someone at a Fresno, Calif. shipping warehouse stole one of the two discs for the PC version of Modern Warfare 3 and pirated its contents online. The menu options in these shots, taken of someone's television screen, show PS3 controls, so this is something different.

The game is due on shelves Nov. 8. We've contacted an Activision rep to ask if these are legit.
