An argument between Counter-Strike players at a Chinese net café over suspected use of a 'wallhack' cheat led to a 17-year-old boy being stabbed through the head with a foot-long knife - and living to tell the tale.

Counter-Strike players in the Jilin province of China take cheating extremely seriously, as evidenced by the grievous wound suffered by one suspected cheater on March 16. The 17-year-old victim was suspected of using a hack that allowed him to see through walls, giving him an obvious benefit in the computerized game of hide and go kill each other.

A fight broke out outside the net café regarding the hack, and one assailant decided to do a little hacking of his own, stabbing large knife into the side of the cheater's head, the tip of the blade barely protruding from the other side.

Speaking for everyone reading this, ouch.

The boy, miraculously still conscious, was rushed to a nearby hospital. After around 10 hours of surgery, the knife was successful removed. The boy survived, but is under observation in case bits of rust - did we mention the blade was rusty? - flaked off inside his brain.

So how does someone survive a foot-long knife through the skull? According to doctors, the blade missed major arteries, which kept him from hemorrhaging, and managed to somehow avoid affecting motor skills even though the blade passed through areas that handle those functions.

The net café where the incident occurred was popular with local youths because it didn't require ID, a fact I'm sure some will consider to be a factor in the incident, but I've always believed that being an asshole with a knife is an ageless thing.

I'm not sure how the law works in China regarding stabbings, but somewhere there's a Counter-Strike player just as relieved that the victim didn't die as the victim himself.

Physician Yan Shi-jun, who operated on the young man, said that the chances of surviving such a wound were one in ten thousand. Those are pretty steep odds.

I bet he cheated.

i usually just come around back and knife a cheater in-game, it really doesn't need to move out to the real world because they deactivated your pixels in an unfair way

it seems Counterstrike has invoked rage yet again:

After his Counter-Strike character died in a knife fight, 20-year-old Julien Barreaux spent six months tracking down the virtual killer. Then he grabbed a real kitchen knife and paid the man a visit.

Thankfully the Frenchman's knife skills are almost as bad in real life as they are in Counter-Strike and he missed his victim's heart by an inch. He was arrested "within the hour and told [police that] he had wanted to see his rival wiped out for killing off his character."

Judge Alexiane Potel best summed up the entire situation with these words to Barreaux at the trial that followed:

"You are a menace to society. I am frankly terrified of the disproportionate reaction you could have if someone looked at you the wrong way in the street."

Barreaux was sentenced to two years in jail and anger management therapy. [NY Daily News]

Cheating wasn't even involved this time, the guy just legitimately beat him in the game. Makes you wonder if anyone is currently hunting you down for beating them in a game....

No Sav your safe for now. ;) How did that guy ONLY get 2 years of jail!?!? He tried to kill a man and almost hit his heart... I would of thought attempted murder would of been more then that. Plus he was planning that shit on the way over to dudes house. So premeditated attempted murder, that guy got off pretty easy if you ask me. :?

If I remember correctly the match you are referring too your side lost but you did kill us a couple times. Now how many times did we kill you? Now who was the NUB that fell for a trick like me calling him over back to my character's position with proximity chat as my character was bleeding out so dbg or Maximus could know his position and dbg got the head shot on him? Hmmmm let me think oh yea that NUB was you savager.   Teamwork is a good thing to bad your side didn't have any that match. So why would you have to worry about us maybe we would have to worry about you with your delusions of grander thinking you kicked our ass when in truth it was the other way around. Oh wait now I know why you did contradict him with the truth dbg because you knew he is delusional and now that I might have burst his bubble he might hunt us down in his TANK, oh wait I mean Bradley, dbg. :o  :? We better watch you backs now.

It was MAG when you, Max, and I were still on Raven right before we vetted back to Valor. We were defending the Raven Sabo map.

Now, I am not familiar with Counterstrike, if your character dies doesn't he just respawn like any other game? Or is it a terminal thing with no respawn? I cant see why it would be the latter, but if that is the case then I can see why that guy was pissed. Not that, that justifies attacking someone, he is still fucking crazy. If anyone knows crazy, I know crazy.

as far as i know, it plays like any other shooter; modes with no respawns, modes with delayed respawns, modes with immediate respawns, etc. Not like you get killed once and it's game over though
