I've watched this about half a dozen times. Too bad this kid got suspended, bullshit if you ask me. He was just defending himself. Edited it with a different link that shouldn't have a problem, since nazi youtube keeps taking them down.

This really terrifies me, when my son gets to be middle school, if I teach him how to defend himself, and then he gets kicked out/suspended or worse for defending himself...

Also make sure you have a blanket isurance policy incase your kid beat another kid up now parents are suing other patents over fights. I just got one this year and my kids are 8 and 5.

is definent that bullying has become a problem. sucks being down here at camp lejeune . my sister is going through some bad bullying back home in ohio. i just wish i could be there for her. this is a definent problem.

that little kid got what he had coming to him. my dad always told me dont you ever start a fight, but dont take no crap either. so long story short when people tried their best to bully me all it took was one example and then after that people decided hey lets leave that guy alone he dont play around.

Yeah i'm trying to talk the wife into home schooling our kids. She's a little hesitant since she just finished her masters in counseling degree, but I think its worth it for the quality of education they would get in a public school.

I would shoot for private schooling if you're going to go that route. Though private schools do have bullying, they regulations are way more strict that public schools. Like fine the shit out the parents strict

Ill teach my kid to defend himself and if anything ever happens ill feel like at least he was prepared. Self-defense is a God-given right and if he gets in trouble for it i can accept that. School comes second in that case. Its hard to learn if you are being constantly terrorized.

It's worth it. A lot of my friends and I were homeschooled growing up, and it was awesome. The stereotypes are false - none of us have problems talking to people, we all got extremely good grades (most of us ended up with full rides to college), and each of us was able to focus on areas we personally enjoyed. And our schooling only took, on average, 3-5 hours a day.

Bullying and America have both gotten out of hand. The fact that you can sue anyone over anything is just stupid. I was a touring musician before joining the Army and I talked to a lot of kids who dealt with depression and a lot of it was over bullying. The fact that a bully got his face slammed and his parents tried to sue for it? Thats so ignorant.
Homeschooling unfortunately is a route more parents are starting to take because they feel its the best way to secure their child but that also has a tendency to make the child socially awkward (not all the time, I don't want hate messages from anyone here who was home schooled lol). Plus in public schools you can have hot teachers, I actually slept with my teacher once and when I tell everyone that they're all like, "oh thats so cool, you must have been a little stud" but what they didn't know is I was home schooled. Ok that isn't true at all, just realized I was going on a rant and needed to ease the mood a bit lol.

Naw it's cool. I take no offense to that...I know some are socially awkward, although I wouldn't say most. Why do you say 'unfortunately'?

I'm not concerned about the bullying part of public schools i'm worried about the quality of the education. I think I had a good education and I went to public school but with how it is now I don't think it prepares them as well as we could ourselves. My son is already so far ahead of other kids his age developmentally and I don't want to have to keep skipping him grades so he doesn't get bored and act out.

Some places they don't. Where I am, the public schools are absolutely horrible and most private schools are pretty bad.

My girls already know the best way to stop bullying, they get into their heads... My girls always give me looks and I always lose power... My wife is scared of bullying because of all the shows showing it but I think if as a parent you are there for them, they will be all good.
My only real problem to using home school as a solution is that it is basically deciding that when things in society are not working properly you are just going to retreat into your own personal island rather than work to improve the social issue in the community. How do communities improve if we aren't involved in improving them?
Then again, it is the conservative/libertarian philosophy of self sufficiency versus my liberal thinking of collectivism and social responsibility.

Kind of ironic this thread is going so strong on the anniversary of the columbine shootings. That's the perfect example of why bullying needs to be controlled. They either get depressed and hurt themselves or they lash out at everyone.

When we were younger, we primarily used Sonlight curriculum (I think through about 6th grade). When we were older, we mixed and matched - Saxon math (which I liked but most people hate, apparently), Apologia science. Last couple years of high school I used a lot of video lectures.

Thanks, I'll look into it. Hawaii has one of the worst ed programs in the country. Were not in Hawaii right now but it gave me less faith in the public school systems so were looking into alternatives.

I don't believe in retreating into my own island, nor do many of the homeschoolers I grew up with. For the most part, they've been active in the community, several have joined the military, and all were heavily involved in the community, whether through different clubs or church events. Now the stereotypical homeschooler is what you described, and I have met a few like that, but the majority are not. The only homeschooling stereotype that I've found to be true is we shoot lots of guns and blow stuff up...and get to count it as school. But that's just awesome.:flame:
