Must Read This Too Funny!!

A Buddy of mine sent me this on FB but this is too funny had to repost it here to share with all of you!!

Orville Smith, a store manager for Best Buy in Augusta, Georgia, told police he observed a male customer, later identified as Tyrone Jackson of Augusta, on surveillance cameras putting a laptop computer under his jacket. When confronted the man became irate, knocked down an employee, drew a knife and ran for the door.

Outside on the sidewalk were four Marines collecting toys for the "Toys for Tots" program. Smith said the Marines stopped the man, but he stabbed one of the Marines, Cpl. Phillip Duggan, in the back; the injury did not appear to be severe.

After Police and an ambulance arrived at the scene Cpl. Duggan was transported for treatment.

"The subject was also transported to the local hospital with two broken arms, a broken ankle, a broken leg, several missing teeth, possible broken ribs, multiple contusions, assorted lacerations, a broken nose and a broken jaw...injuries he sustained when he slipped and fell off of the curb after stabbing the Marine," according to a police report.

I have to say that I don't fully agree with the "beating" (curb my ass) that the Marines gave the man. Now before anyone jumps my case, hear me out. They guy did deserve to be knocked around a little, but I'm pretty sure that after the first broken arm he wasn't doing much to resist. In fact I'm sure that any ONE of those injuries would have taken this coward out of commission. To me, this means that after subduing the individual the Marines proceeded to beat the dog sh*! out of him. That in my book is not appropriate behavior for anyone in the military. I'm just glad that no one (minus the dumb a$$ shoplifter) were seriously injured.

Now just to make myself clear, I'm not bashing anyone. I just think that the Marines might have taken it a little far. There is a thin line between self defense and assault (trust me I know about this one). Honestly, the Marines will be lucky if the guy doesn’t press charges and with the right lawyer the guy could win (it sucks but it's true).

Agreed probably would of did the same if one of my marines was stabbed. He had it coming

I think the beating might of gone a little to far on that one. He definitely deserved to get his ass kicked which I probably would of helped if I was there. But, I do think they went beyond a good old fashion ass kicking and it sounds like they nearly killed him. I think the Marines might have thought that dude killed their fellow Marine and took the aggression to the fullest extent. I don't know hard to say I wasn't there so don't know.

I'm not jumping anyone's case that agrees the Marines took it to far. In my personal experience both in the Marines and as a Correctional Officer when weapons are involved self defense is out and preservation of life is on! It's hard to explain what goes on in your head at these times but everything kinda goes blank and all that is going through your mind is survival of yourself, buddies, loved ones or whatever is being threatened. At this point all your training is instinctual and you don't think you just react. If you haven't experienced this then its hard to explain but you can't say they took it to far because you don't know what you would do if you had the same training as these Marines did and were put in the same situation they were in. I've been the subject of a few shooting review boards and many excessive force cases as a Correctional Officer for this very same reason...(We think he went to far). In everyone one of those they asked me why didn't I do this or why didn't I do that. I told them these are my force option and stated everyone of them to them. I asked if I violated any of the force options and they said no. I asked then why am I here if I didn't violate any of these force options. They stated we think you could have "maybe" done something different. I looked at them and stated "then what would you have done in my situation"? Every single time they stated "I DON'T KNOW "maybe" I would have done this or that instead". I stated "so I didn't violate any force options and you don't know but maybe you would have done something different"! Case closed thank you very much! Bottom line you don't know what your going to do until your put into that exact situation so please don't judge.

Yes to a normal person 'fight or flight' applies, but you would think they would be trained to have more restraint? I don't know? You could argue an eye for an eye though...yeah he should have just stabbed him back :cool:

Sorry Lady.... Most of us Are not Normal here at USMG!.:rolleyes:.LOL!......we all go thru 8 weeks of Hell..Basic Training..the most intense and brutal 8 weeks you do in your life.. and i know from friends Infantry and Marines do even longer then 8 weeks...all for a single goal.. to be trained killers! and i agree with Tracker.. if confronted with a Weapon(gun or Knife) u would hope your training kicked in to keep your self and friends alive!..and you just dont know how you would re-act...hopefully better then they did and have some restraint but im sorry i knife not matter how dull can kill ..so all bets would be off....either down range or back home...

Sorry Lady.... Most of us Are not Normal here at USMG!.:rolleyes:.LOL!......we all go thru 8 weeks of Hell..Basic Training..the most intense and brutal 8 weeks you do in your life.. and i know from friends Infantry and Marines do even longer then 8 weeks...all for a single goal.. to be trained killers! and i agree with Tracker.. if confronted with a Weapon(gun or Knife) u would hope your training kicked in to keep your self and friends alive!..and you just dont know how you would re-act...hopefully better then they did and have some restraint but im sorry i knife not matter how dull can kill ..so all bets would be off....either down range or back home...

I took an oath to protect this country, and it's inhabitants, from "evil". Foriegn OR Domestic. 'Nuff said. LOL!!! I probably would've done the same thing. Then blame it on PTSD. I ALWAYS have at least 2 knives on me at ALL times. It doesn't matter if I'm at work, or just taking the wife to Walmart, I'm armed (well, kinda, LOL!!)! I still back them up! SEMPER FI!!
