The game is really starting to define the term epic, thanks for posting these up.

After E3 is over i'm going to start merging threads and cleaning up so we don't have the unnecessary complexity of threads for the same game showing up in multiple forums, mainly the trailers section and the gamehub, I see no reason to have them separated anymore. I'm interested in this game but my problem with MMO's is I get bored once I level to max level. I have played soooo many MMOs and it's the leveling that I enjoy the most. I recently played RIFT, Lot of fun, but I hit max level is only 3 weeks. :(

A newer MMORPG but with star wars, and a great system too. Their crafting is awesome, because people that are allied with you on your ship can craft stuff and gather things while you don't even play! I was wondering if we should set up a guild, if we get enough people. I will be playing this one, so any others added would be great. It's for PC and this is the link http://www.swtor.com/info . There are beta sign ups right now, and I already did the processing. If we get at least 10 people saying they will get this, then I'll make a guild for us. Yes, you can reserve a guild name and accept players pre launch. This game may be the dagger in WoW (I hope).

Okay, so what I garnered from this interview, is that EA Games Head Frank Gibeau is a moron who knows nothing about the game he's talking about.

The 200 hour class quest bit was released over a year ago. There have been 8 classes, 4 per faction, for almost the entirety of the 3 years it's been announced. Therefore saying there are only six......stupid. He also has no idea what the term MMO stands for, because you can group up with people during the class quests. Origins won't be the only place you can buy TOR.

So much stupid in so little space.

Only 1 reply with a side, and that is the dark side... I'm sure nobody will jack our name, so I'll give it a little longer for more to reply, and know that this game will own all. I love the ability to have your allies craft and gather stuff while you're away from the comp / working / sleeping / not logged on. Amazing idea for a better social economy. I'll put my vote in for dark side as well, cause I really want to be a bounty hunter. so the total is now: 0 light -- 2 dark. I heard from people that are currently doing the closed beta (sign up for open beta now to insure a spot on their main website), there are quite a few bugs, and it may release from Dec 2011 to even somewhere around Mar 2012. I'm also sure, that they wont release it around their Mass Effect 3 date, cause that would just be bad marketing.

Only the GL can approve people. It may be better than WoW, personally I believe so simply because of the heavy story emphasis. Won't truly know until it's released.

I totally agree, but I was just saying what they would be best suited for. I doubt anything but a Jedi Consular/Sith Inquisitor can be a great healer, which of course are going to be the most important classes from what I see. Even though everyone else can heal, they shouldn't up their healing stats. A great something is better than a normal jack of all trades.

Which, once again is wrong. There is no built in best healer, every AC that can heal is designed to be a valid main healer. Same for tanks, as well as DPS. Which makes your theory unbalanced to the point of game-breaking. If Bioware wants to make an MMO with lasting power, they're not going to design it inherently unbalanced.

Well, the main beta just wrapped so they can introduce a new build in two weeks. So around the 26th there will be a new beta then. Plus, they're doing weekend testing to let people feel the game.

From what I've been hearing, they won't actually do a full open beta, and the preorder early start is 3-6 days early access.

I wouldn't hold your breath for this. TOR will be doing a limited release for server stability. That + over 2 mil preorders means they don't need free play incentives.

@jx and Sig - I signed up for a beta too, also preodered the collectors edition, and also got a stupid email to report on beta features, that I have yet to receive an invitation too.. /cry

@sig - I've played wow for like 10 years. - the lvl cap is currently 85, I have 2 lvl 85s, and I'm working on a 3rd. I know, "I need a life" ;)

This game will be easily compared to World of Warcraft as far as game type goes and the prices also reflect that. I don't recall what the original sale price was for WoW back when it first released but I'm assuming it was on par with the typical PC game pricetag at the time, and the same goes for SWTOR being on par (ok maybe slightly more) with the average PC game price today

a $15/month sub fee is also pretty much SOP with MMOs these days so again, it's typically priced. Why these prices were chosen to begin with, I don't know but at this point in the game it's very well tried and proven that people are happy to pay these prices so why mess too much with a winning formula.

Subscription fees mean more, regular, content updates.

Also, as far as price goes, it's comparable to new PC releases of the same caliber. 49.99 for AC: Revelations, 59.99 for BF 3 OR MW 3. Hell, LoRTO has a new expansion that costs 30 for the basic and 50 for the collector's.

For what seems like the 25th time this year, EA has released a new Star Wars: The Old Republic trailer as the game primes up for its launch in December. This trailer, as its title suggests, gives us a glimpse at a galaxy in chaos as established governments crumble and both sides prepare for war.

In related news, it was announced today that rather than staggering the launch of the game by a couple days, EA will instead be launching SWTOR simultaneously worldwide. This means that European players will get access to the game two days earlier than expected on December 20.

I never RP on RP servers. I choose them because they have naming restrictions. Hence, no Timtebow or xXspankymcgeeXx running around. Generally, just more mature.

Anyway, the class mirrors are identical across factions, so it'll be worth playing through them just to experience the story, which is unique per class.

I second with Spyder, RP servers are better orriented for people that play casually or are hardcore and put time into their characters and make a good name for them, not some abbomination of a name lol.

It soloable, but you still need to be online for it. There's no single player Kotor style play, however.

wow really? I just figured, how pretty much every MMO with multiple sides, you cant have chars of the opposite faction in the same server. If they want to change one of the MMO rules, then by all means, that's awesome! We can have clan fights and whatnot.

It's not much of a rule anymore. Quite a few recent MMO's have done away with it....pretty sure WoW did as well. And even when it was a rule, it only affected PvP servers.

Yea, WoW did away with it on the last release. Cataclysm. You can now have characters on either horde or alliance same server.

spyder..got a question cause i just dont MMORPG....is this going to be some what like WoW? i tried WoW this week cause a buddy told me i could trail for free to see if i like it and i wanted to check on internet to see if it holds up from out here.... suprise it did pretty good doesnt pull much bandwidth at all ..some jumping but not much..and im actually kinda enjoying WoW...wow i never thought to hear those words come out of my mouth..but i wanted to try and see cause i really wanna play this one!!...i got a bad taste in my mouth from Galaxy's ...spent money and hated it ..never touched a mmorpg since then....:confused:

RP is a PvE server with naming conventions. You can still get in on instanced PvP, and can flag for world PvP if you choose to.

ok sweet. thanks. Any updates on when I get to play the beta? I got the ED version, and it said I get to start playing before everyone else, and it's a little over a month till release. I wanna play a little to get the feel for it before it launches so I can grind my way up faster LOL.

This last test was a stress test too, and honestly, it wasn't bad at all. Every now and then, some framerate loss, but other then that, I had no issues at all.

you update your security questions? Also, once you d-l the client, it still has a long way to go. Open it back up and come back in 2 hours or so... Hopefully it should have downloaded it by then, along with the patches! or leave it open over night if you got a slow int connection.

So, we'll seee.

I sincerely hope they don't intend to go live with queue's of more then 20 minutes. That is not gonna fly for me, and I image they would lose people hand over fist, unless they address that immediately. :eek:

They both get significantly better as you level. The Inquis is my least favorite starter, but it's chapter 2/3 story is awesome.

I think the story is a bit different then the typical fantasy hack and slasher. All the classes feel unique but relatively balanced. The storyline in the first 16 levels (as far as I got), was incredible, immersive, and actually fun. I found myself wanting to complete the quest to find out the next part of the story. Though I admit, that after 40+ levels, I think its still gonna feel like the MMO grinding we're all probably accustomed too.

As far as playstyle goes, you'll hear a lot of "WoW clone". Don't let it fool you. What you are hearing there are masses of ignorant morons who fail to realize that WoW didn't invent MMO's. Or, well, much of anything for that matter. What WoW did was take the best ideas from various MMO's, and incorporate it in to a solid game offering with a popular IP. In that sense, yeah it's a WoW clone, but that sells it short. It's a theme-park MMO clone. One that takes some of the best offerings from numerous MMO's, including but not limited to WoW, and made a solid game out of them. It doesn't have every single cool idea that has ever cropped up, but overall it's a solid advancement on theme-park MMO design.

As far as the classes themselves, as Smoke said they're fairly well designed, and seem relatively unique. The real kicker, of course, is that of the 8 classes, 4 unique classes per faction, each of them is an identical mirror of one cross-faction class.

Sith Warrior = Jedi Knight
Bounty Hunter = Trooper
Imp. Agent = Smuggler
Inquisitor = Consular

Each mirror is identical, mechanically, but vastly different in regards to visuals.

Further, and where TOR drastically seperates itself from every other MMO offering, every single class has it's own unique storyline that it follows throughout the game...and will continue to follow in to future expansions. So you end up with your Sith Warrior, or whatever class you choose, being Darth Shepard-Hawke, Spectre of the Gray Wardens. More importantly, your character is central to the ongoing story of the universe. You're not a random, nameless rogue or warrior who's one of hundreds, or thousands, who partake in the events of the game's universe. You're THE guy. You are the one who shapes the events of the story, which impacts and drives the events of the game itself. It's like taking Mass Effect, making Shepard one class, and then creating 7 more classes that are equally central to the universe......and then adding everything you would expect from an MMO.

I'm thinking if the Sith Warrior and Jedi Knights are the tanky classes (they are, right?), there'll probably be a lot of those considering their significance in the lore, right? Due to my schedule, I've never really been more than a one-toon guy, so I'd like to choose something that isn't sitting waiting for queues all day due to overpopular class choice. I was a lock in WoW and it sucked being ranged DPS looking for groups/raids.

We kind of do. The clan guild fell apart because of a lack of preorder, so some people merged in with the guild I had formed previously.

The story lines are all big crescendos that end with room to expand. I think the writers did really good jobs on the classes that I've played. I can't wait for release.

Jx and myself have been discussing the possibility of bringing the tor guild on board over here at usmg. Bioware has stated they are going to be removing the guild forums, so I offered our forum up as a replacement.
This would bring on about 25-30 new talented MMORPG's here to USMG. :redface:

I pre-ordered within the first few hours that it was available. I fully expect to get into early access on day one. I'm going Republic though. Not too keen on sharing a faction with the emo, vampire, Darth Wannabe, Sith-kiddies.

Flashpoints are awesome. My favorite aspect of that game. The group conversations turn into drunken Mystery Science Theater Star Wars Edition. Warfront PvP is awesome too. Love Huttball and the one where you take turns attacking and defending.

3 more days. It's like early Christmas. Even my wife, who hates video games showed some interest in The Old Republic.

And instead, you get to share it with the equally emo Jedi wannabes. Or the armchair general Trooper wannabes. Been in beta since July or so, both sides. You run across really cool people, and absolute moron kiddies in largely equal numbers, regardless of faction.

The attack/defend warfront is Voidstar. I agree, they're pretty awesome. Think Alderaan is my favorite, though.

Story will do that. TOR is sometimes less a game, and more an interactive movie/novel. I'm sure several people will be rolling Republic, the tor website guild was just to get people on the same server.

Which one's Alderaan? The one with the three turrets that you have to take over to damage the opposing team's ship? I played a Shadow in that one and the enemy team all dog piled in the middle. I stealthed up, took the one on the side, then restealthed and waited. Another team mate took the other side and by the time the enemy team realize that they neglected the two side turrets the match was pretty much over.

The most satisfying thing in that game's PvP is Force pushing/pulling someone into the Acid pits in the Huttball arena, then stunning them so they just get eaten up. It's too cheesy, but so satisfying. I know they're gonna do something to stop that kind of stuff.

The main reason I chose Republic was to play the Jedi Knight who is voiced by David Hayter, the guy that does Solid Snake's voice in the Metal Gear Solid games. Solid Snake as a Jedi?! Head asplode.

/agree. I played both sides up to about lvl 16ish, and I met asshats on either side. faction doesn't fix stupid. :rolleyes::redface:
Besides, I hear the Bounty Hunter is really fun, so after 2 beta sessions, I still haven't played BH, and I'm really looking forward to it on Tuesday.. :D

I'm good with that and I think everyone else would be too. so long as, they're not a bunch of under age kids lol.
