I live in Louisville, Kentucky. My wife and I have about 5 days consecutive off work to use for a quick get-away with our 11 year old daughter and 14 year old son. We thought about Gatlinburg for a few days but not sure if we want to spend that much money right now.
Anyone live within 2 or 3 hours of Kentucky have any good ideas for a nice mini-vacation with kids but with also some adult entertainment value that won't break the bank?

Don't know how much driving you care to do --and this might be outside the mileage you care to drive-- but what about the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, OH, and then swing down to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH?

Another great get away but this is further for you is Helen, Ga ..little German town up in the hills NW of Atlanta....if you ever been to Duetchland its a must to go here.. you come over the hill and it looks like you took a turn in Bavaria ...they even have a fest hall for October fest!! another great town!

Yeah it looks like we're heading to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, TN. Wife got us a deal paid ahead of time for a Super 8 for 39 bucks a night, gonna do 3 nights. Nothing fancy but it has 2 beds, microwave and a fridge. The last two times we went we got a challet but we don't have that kind of money right now.

Looks like a win. Have a good time and let us know how it is. I've always wanted to visit there, but never got the chance. Be safe!
