Of course they made this decision AFTER I retired. Oh well...at least those that are still in or coming in soon won't have to put up with the atrocity that is the beret.

yeah.. what upset me is i just bought a new beret.. shaved and shaped it. 2 days later bam.. no more beret

Well u guys still wear it with the class c's right so not totally useless, but I agree that thing is ugly and here in Texas it's useless the suns always in your face.

Yeah, it can still be mandated by the commander for special occasions and what not; but for now it'll just be collecting dust

wow well at lest u can still wear them with your blue's(class-a's)....ive always worn a maroon one any way...aviation is usually in airborne....i think the PC looks better with the DCU's anyway.....wow wasn't this one of Shinseki ideas anyway..lol he retires and everyone ponces on all his ideas...

the thing with the Beret...
It could look REALLY good when shaved and shaped properly.

or could look REALLY BAD... when not worn properly. It usually seemed to be some staff officer that could never wear a beret properly.

I have a beret that I shaved too closely. As a result it had a hole right on the left corner of the blue flash (as you wear it). I was able to fold it just right so that no one ever knew it was there. Wore it for years that way.

hells yeah mine had a hole as well under the flap.

It was a matter of pride if your unit crest was faded from gold to silver, and your beret was so warn that the lines showed.

I still got mine on the shelf under the my platoon's photo taken under the cross sabers in baghdad.
