The leadership team at my place of business is having a weight loss challenge. I signed up. Typically I don't do these types of things but I haven't done a cut this year so I figured I would hop on board. The pot is $900 bucks winner take all. I pitched in my $50 bucks to participate and weighed in last Wednesday at 244.1 lbs. The contest ends September 13th.
I've adjusted my work outs to be total body and high rep as to not build muscle as rapidly as my usual routine. My struggle is running, I hate running. :( I set a personal goal to reach 210, that's 34lbs in 3 months. Being 6'2", and weight 210, I would be ripped. I guess I can't loose, maybe I can walk away with $900 bucks, but even if I don't "win", I'll have lost the body fat%.

Good luck bro! It is a good motivator being in challenges like that, but people who are somewhat fit are at a huge disadvantage compared to those who are excessively overweight. Like you said, if you can hit your goal, then that's all that matters! Running is getting boring for me too, so I think I am going to have to add some biking and swimming.

very true, maybe they will factor that in by doing it based of %s instead of straight numbers. pound for pound the more overweight the easier it would be to win. maybe it's not such a bad thing though, I wouldn't mind losing to a large guy that managed to drop 100 pounds when i worked my butt of to lose 40 because i still lost 40 and that guy is probably walking on air and feels amazing. so everybody wins
:D

Agreed. I already have a bunch of the other competitors coming to me asking "how to" questions. So I share some of my secrets. But I might not share the 7 day cleanse I'll do the final week before the last weigh in. :)

Ok, so i know this sounds like a crazy diet, and i'm not exactly sure it was 100% healthy, but it totally works.
I was 207 and now i'm 174; all within 90 days. (And i had a bum foot, so i did no running, though i was on the eliptical and bike a lot)

So what exactly is this diet? Is it some type of supplement or something?

it's technically a horomone that you take in drop form however many times a day on top of a strict diet. and let me tell you that diet is no freaking joke. most the people that tried it with me didn't last past week 1.
what essentially happens is it resets your metabolism in order to burn the food you eat instead of storing it for later usage.
what is good about it though is that it really does change your diet... i've been off of it for... 2 months now, and i haven't gained a pound back. I eat crap food all the time now, but i normally enjoy more healther foods, as before i just ate whatever.
but i suggest if your going to try this, do like the 21-day program during a time when your going to be able to follow your diet, so not around holidays and what not. because eating out isn't really an option.
i would invest into a small digital scale to measure your meats out and a george foreman grill (the small white fat-reducer)
it's a lot of making your own meals and finding ways to make them better. i used a lot of herbs and spices (the allowed ones) and it really helps, because the selection of foods is slim. the program comes with a decent outline of what you can and can't do, an alternate plan if you have to workout, and what not, but it's best to look up recipes for the foods allowed in the diet to boost the meals.

Just run, I started in February and I'm down to 200 lbs I still lift but not as hard. Use ace knee sleeves. before I ran I did the elliptical 4X a week, but have found out that I can run like Forest Gump now I'm up to 14 miles adding a mile every week to my goal of doing the Marine Corps Marathon. I'm in my mid 40's last time I ran before this year was my last PFT test I think about 26. give it a try.

Yeah I'm doing my Alpha Male Challenge which is a 10 week program that I used to do from 2003 - 2006 when I competed in NPC shows and ran. Of course then I was roughly 195lbs and about 6 to 7% body fat. I could only maintain that for a few weeks before and after a show, it sucked. From '06 to about 2010 I maintained around 10 - 13% body fat. But this last year I have become somewhat of a Craft Beer connoisseur. :) That's how I ended up at 244.1 lbs. heh. I'm not complaining now, 'cause I've had some AMAZING beers. God I love Micro and Craft beer. Anyway... I'm running again also on top of the Alpha Male Challenge program.
This challenge at work started on 6/13, I was 244.1 lbs. I weighed in yesterday 6/24 I'm at 240 lbs. :) I'm on target so far.

What does your diet look like or are you just running?

In my cutting phase I eat primarily:
Chicken & Fish, lots of salmon and occasional lean red meats
Broccoli and other veggies
Whole grains - noddles, rice, breads, etc (I eat lower carbs, but not "low or no carb")
Sweet potatoes
Fruits
Olive oil sparingly and flax seed oil
Optimum Nutrition protein shakes
My weight lifting regimen while cutting is a full body muscle confusion concept 3 days a week
(when bulking I lift 5x a week one muscle group each day)
Currently higher reps, with 1 to 1.5 minutes rest between sets. This maintains an elevated heart rate for approximately 70 minutes.
I run 3 days a week and typically one day on the weekend. When I run I do landmark sprints, i.e. I see a mailbox 50 feet ahead, I'll sprint to it, slow down, pick another item about 30 seconds later and sprint to it, rinse/repeat for about 17 minutes. (HIIT)
Drinking lots of water and cut out the beer. :) The weekends with the guys makes it hard sometimes with no beer. heh
I try to get a solid 8 hours sleep nightly
