Restaurant bans kids under 6??......hmmm....

Excerpt from yahoo:...At McDain's Restaurant, in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, kids don't eat free. And starting next week, they don't get to eat at all. Mike Vuick, owner of the Pittsburgh area eatery has just announced a ban on children under 6 at his casual dining establishment.

After receiving noise complaints from customers about crying kids at neighboring tables, Vuick decided to institute the policy, which will go into effect July 16.

In an email to customers, Vuick explained: "We feel that McDain's is not a place for young children. Their volume can't be controlled and many, many times, they have disturbed other customers."

The owner of the "upscale, casual and quiet" restaurant explains to WTAE Local News, he's got nothing against kids in general, but their endless screams at public dinner tables are "the height of being impolite and selfish."

Last year, North Carolina's Olde Salty restaurant made a similar decision. Owner Brenda Armes posted a sign that read "Screaming children will not be tolerated", making it clear to parents when their kids scream, they'll be asked to take it outside. Armes said the move has boosted business, and Vuick is confident his ban will benefit McDain's as well.

But not everyone is on board. Some Monroeville locals are offended that they're being singled out for having young kids, and pointing fingers at noisy adults.

"If they're so concerned about noise, what do they plan to do about the loud people at the bar?" asks one local resident.

It's not illegal to ban kids from eating establishments, but some parents consider the move discriminatory, and potentially a violation of rights for certain special needs kids. What do you think: are kid-free restaurants a great idea or flat-out wrong?

His call... but he is severely limiting his bank roll by doing so. Kids = families and families =more cash. But hey, if you're a small business owner who can afford to for go a bigger bank. Then by all means, feel free to drive away a larger consumer base and a piece of that fat money cake with it.

being a parent, there is only so much of the wife and my cooking we can take. We have to get out with the animals sometime, how will they learn how to act like an ass at a bar/restaurant, who do you want to see my son who lives under the table or the drunk guy hitting on your wife? Come on we were all mindless animals at one point, Now we eat early and get out of a place before the couples come in, that way they can still have that image of a perfect family at least until they have a screaming I'm not going to eat that fit while standing in a booth looking over the shoulder of the person behind you. Damn I should have never breded.

by the way I'm planning on eating at this place next week when I'm staying in Monroeville, also Monroeville mall was where Dawn of the Dead was filmed back in the day.

spyder my young man your thoughts will change, when everyone looks at your table when your kid decides to repeat the F-bomb you just dropped when the wife asked if you packed little mans toy power ranger and when I say repeat he says it about 20 times loud. I agree if a place wants to have no kids but don't say you can't stand the little screaming devils. Some day I will tell you the story of going through the garbage at a fast-food place looking for my daughters retainer.

Actually, my wife despises screaming, out of control kids who control their parents....rather then the other way around. That would be what I meant by screaming devils. I already got lectured on teaching my godson to fist bump and say "coke and whores", which apparently led to his dad getting lectured by the daycare.

Plus, I have no problem passing up The Ram, a steakhouse microbrew, in favor of Red Robins when my little bundle of grief comes in to the world. Because I know which one caters to my familial situation.

LOL my talk was from the nuns at my daughter preschool in Atlanta, I would sing her Marine running cadences and she loved them would sing along well she sang 1 to the class, kill with your copter gun killing commies is alot of fun kill a pregent lady counts as 2 napalm sticks to kids, well the wife and me were called in to discuss what I sing to my daughter, the whole time I'm thinking at least she did not sing whiskey jack, well I got the wife talk latter also. Your hardly right and allways wrong when it comes to the kids. I have just become the typical mid 40's dad don't say anything and drink a lot.

Here's my thoughts. If you want to take your kids out to eat where they can make noise, there are McD's and BK's with playgrounds. If you want a quiet place to enjoy conversation and a nice meal, there are restaurants such as McDain's, The Melting Pot, Cheddar's and the like where it's a more of a dining establishment. If you want to go for a family restaurant there are places like Denny's, Freindly's, Golden Corral or Hooters to go to. But taking noisy kids, especially if you can't control them, to a dining establishment ruins the time for all in earshot.

I'm all for this. Movie theaters as well. If you can't get your kid to shut up within 2 minutes of his squealing either take him outside or don't bring them. If your combination of parenting skills and common courtesy is so lapsed that you impose on everyone else then you shouldn't be allowed to go out.
