Borderlands 2 Coming in 2012 - Report

a sequel to the cel-shaded shooter may be coming to xbox 360, ps3, and pc next year.

A sequel to borderlands (http://www.1up.com/games/pc/borderlands/) is reportedly in the works and will be out next year. That's according to eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-08-02-borderlands-2-confirmed-source), which claims it's been told by a source close to gearbox software that the developer is currently at work on borderlands 2 for xbox 360, playstation 3, and pc.

Gearbox hasn't been shy in expressing how pleased (http://www.1up.com/news/gearbox-dev-calls-borderlands-2) it is with the first game, and this isn't the first indication that another borderlands is on the way -- a resume showed (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-08-02-borderlands-2-confirmed-source) a listing for Borderlands 2 earlier this year.

"I can tell you that myself and everyone at gearbox loves borderlands and we have been absolutely thrilled at the reception it's gotten from our customers and the fact that it's sold over four million units now," gearbox ceo randy pitchford told eurogamer in april (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-04-21-gearbox-dismisses-borderlands-2-talk). "so you can see that we supported the game like mad with lots of great dlc and you can imagine that we're going to want to do a lot of things with borderlands in the future."

Since shipping the cel-shaded shooter in october 2009, gearbox has released duke nukem forever (http://www.1up.com/games/pc/duke-nukem-forever) and several (http://www.1up.com/news/borderlands-zombie-island-dlc-releasing) dlc (http://www.1up.com/news/borderlands-dlc-mad-moxxi-underdome) packs (http://www.1up.com/news/gearbox-raising-borderlands-level-cap) for (http://www.1up.com/news/claptrap-revolution-confirmed-borderlands-dlc) borderlands. Pitchford previously declined to confirm that a new borderlands was officially in development, and things are unlikely to be any different now. We'll have to wait for an official reveal before knowing what changes borderlands 2 will bring, though i know i'm personally hoping for a less shoddy pc version than what we got with the first game. I got the email from game informer that the digital issue is ready but i haven't looked at it yet. I need to check it out for the borderlands 2 info though, I'm really looking forward to it

i finished reading the GI article in the september issue. Borderlands 2 is shaping up to be pretty epic :D

improved AI and new mocap animation so the enemy don't just stand there like bullet sponges and they can do teamwork tactics against you. A scenario they describe is a group of skag pups that attack you and then a badass flaming skag comes and temporarily sets them all ablaze so they can attack you with increased attack and defense. Then when the fires go out the badass flaming skag calls them back to him to light them on fire again for another go. They're promising more variety in enemies as well as environment. We'll be seeing 4 new player characters but the original 4 will still be in the game as NPCs and play heavily into a much richer story than the first game. From what I can gather it sounds like the missions in the beginning are going to be reminiscent to Sly Cooper 3, "here is the common goal, now go out and do whatever is necessary to get these other people to join you and form the ultimate team" The mission they describe in the article involves rescuing Roland from a gang of bandits before the Hyperion corporation captures him first. The missions will be more dynamic too, changing depending on the situation and your actions like if you fail to rescue Roland before they capture him you'll have to save him again in a later mission most likely in some sort of Hyperion prison break scenario

They revealed one class in the article, the Gunzerker, which is the replacement to Brick and the bezerker class. His ability is dual wielding any two weapons. And they mean any two. two rocket launchers? sure. two miniguns? wouldn't have it any other way. lol

They also plan to make the different weapons manufactures more unique to where just looking at them you can tell who makes it, as well as graphical representation of the quality of the weapon; a terrible shotgun should look rather terrible shouldn't it while a rare weapon might have gold plating or otherwise look fancy and special.

I can't wait to get ahold of this game

oh and btw Jack the main antagonist's name is Handsome Jack, I thought you'd enjoy that fact. Not sure if he'll be sporting man thongs but given the humor in the first game I wouldn't put it past them lol

they said they would be starting fresh with weapons, offering up all new varieties instead of using recycled ones from the previous game but they did mention an assault rifle that shoots mini rockets so I have faith that you will find something to your liking lol

The original Borderlands from publisher 2K Games and developer Gearbox Software was released back in October 2009, wowing gamers with a unique cel-shaded cartoony art style, over-the-top enemies, and tons (and tons) of guns. The game successfully married the skill trees and gear-based loot systems from MMOs like World of Warcraft with twitchy cooperative FPS mechanics, providing dozens or hours of entertainment per playthrough.

Still, the game wasn’t perfect, with complaints including lacklustre AI and samey weapons feeling like nothing more than vendor trash as you approached the middle of the game and beyond. From a recent Gamescom interview with Gearbox Game Concept Designer Scott Kester, the developer is aware of the limitations of their first title, and if their plans are realized we are in for a treat when Borderlands 2 releases next year.

GS employees don't get any info. But there are some managers and general managers who are lucky enough to go to events like E3, PAX and the like getting some insider info. I was lucky enough to be friends with one in NM before moving back to Pa. So take anything they say with a large helping of salt.

I'm going to have to take you up on that soon. I play with Roland, I think I have him around level 48 or so ... somewhere in the 40's. I've completed the main quests in the original game as well as the fort knox and zombie island DLCs. Mostly been building my guy as a medium range heavy trooper and focused on building up the scorpio turrets healing and resupply skills.

you wouldn't think she'd work well for melee but her abilities actually make for some beastly melee elemental attacks. I can inflict fire, electric, and corrosive damage in one hit

but truth be told, after leveling up all the way i got bored and started playing around with gamesave mods, originally just to fix a few missions that got glitched but then started having some fun with it. my backpack and bank have like 150 slots and all my abilities are maxed out. weapon proficiencies all all up pretty high as well, but i don't think i maxed them out.

i figured i beat the game and dlc legitimately the first time through so might as well have some fun with it now :D

I've mostly built up assault rifle if I remember right. I prefer to use ARs that have a scope and fire in small bursts. Also like using a good shotgun for close range. Don't really use any form of sidearm or SMG. I think my loadout is AR, shotgun, rocket launcher and sniper rifle.

Haven't done any of the mods you mentioned. Partly because I don't know how to. Which is usually a pretty good reason.

OXM: Late Borderlands fan to be honored as NPC in Borderlands 2

It’s not often that we get to write about truly heartfelt moments in the gaming industry. Sure, there are a few random marriage proposals made through games a year, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a moment of kindness as genuine as what Gearbox is doing for one devoted fan. When his good friend Michael John Mamaril passed away, Carlo immediately reached out to Gearbox. Both Michael and Carlo were huge Borderlands fans, and Carlo was hoping to honor his friend by asking the developer if they could have Borderlands de facto mascot Claptrap read Michael’s eulogy. Being the stand up fellows that they are, Gearbox not only granted Carlo his request, but also went one step further. When Borderlands 2 ships, Michael will be immortalized forever as an NPC within the game.

Going above and beyond in this situation not only shows what classy folks they are over at Gearbox, but it also shines a whole new light on the gaming industry. Developers really do care about the people who play the games they make, and we are touched by the generosity and kindness that Gearbox has shown in this instance. In an age where all the mainstream media cares about is how video games make you more violent, it’s stories like these that remind you how games can also have a purely positive impact on someone’s life. Destructiod: Gearbox to honor late fan as an NPC in Borderlands 2

This morning, we received an email from a Destructoid fan named Carlo who shared a story about his late friend Michael John Mamaril. Last month, Michael passed away due to cancer at the young age of 22. Both were huge Borderlands fans, so Carlo thought a great way to honor his buddy's memory would be to shoot Gearbox Software an email asking for a short eulogy to be read by the game's smart-mouthed robot mascot Claptrap. Not only did Gearbox comply with the request, it also promised to insert Michael into the upcoming Borderlands 2 as an NPC.

This is, without a doubt, one of the most heartfelt and generous acts of fan appreciation ever. For Gearbox to extend such an honor demonstrates how serious the company is in forging meaningful relationships with the people who play its games. This certainly isn't the first time Gearbox has gone above and beyond, and I guarantee it won't be the last.

Borderlands “really about the loot”, sequel to be less repetitive
Gearbox is working to ensure the core mechanics of Borderlands make it into the sequel in bigger and better form.

“What we’re trying to do in this game … Borderlands is really about the loot, about the mechanic of levelling up and getting new gear,” concept designer Scott Kester said in a 2KTV episode on Borderlands 2.

“[We're] focusing a lot more on the actual gun content creation, making those really interesting and fun, and [on having] a new thing around every corner, a new loot.

“I think [we're] focusing and doubling down on what our core was, designing the best characters and guns and environments we could to make the loot as interesting as possible.

“The guns this time around are so much better. they look different, they do different things. There’s a lot more gear that’s dropped.”

Kester said the first game’s loot was too “granluar”, with little to distinguish one set from the next, and that this time around, an emphasis on variety should address criticisms of repetitiveness.

Been trying to get better gear through continually the last story line boss on second play through but he drops mostly garbage. Anyone find a better looting spot?

Just finished killing him a few times and he drops some stuff but its not great. The real thing you get from him is a class mod that gives +4 to five of the beginning skill slots, however for a assassin it only gives four since the 5th isn't even in our skill tree. Other than that you'll occasionally get a relic that's okay.

I have a Jakobs sniper that's white that does 977 damage with an added 15% damage bonus + a 50% melee bonus. I duplicated it for Klaws.

All of my snipers do over 1000 damage ....one for each elemental... The fire one adds 50% melee...just run of the mill in "true vault hunter" play through. Getting my ass kicked...armored psychos are very annoying. Pitchford has already stated, that a patch is going to be dropped soon, to make programs like horizon useless. It's basically going to FUBAR, all saves modded by those programs.

So no cap increase but they did introduce a new end game boss or bosses rather. You can only farm him once a day but he drops seraph crystals which buy you awesome ass pink gear (not etech but badassery).
