Hi-Rez Studios has announced that their free-to-play first person shooter Tribes: Ascend will begin beta on November 4. There are several ways to get in to the beta: you can apply for a beta key via the Tribes: Ascend website, get a code on their Facebook or Twitter pages, or pre-order the game. The beta will include four multiplayer maps, two game modes, three vehicles, and will support up to 32 players with 12 classes.

If you pre-order the game you'll get access to the VIP Starter Kit, which, according to Hi-Rez COO Todd Harris, includes beta access, a 33% cost saving, VIP status in game which will put you in a more elite set of queues, in-game gold, and some form of booster.

I'm not sure how pre-ordering a free-to-play game works but the VIP Starter Kit sounds very enticing, especially since you have to pay for loadouts in Tribes: Ascend. The 33% discount sounds like a good deal.

talk about halo hopping. halo leaping? lol

I see free to play FPS is becoming more popular. this, ghost recon, battlefield, americas army....I know free FPS games are more popular in the east but it seems like they're making a push to bring the popularity here too now. makes sense anyways with people having a hard time dropping $60 on a new game these days so the $2 here and $2 there of the f-2-p sales model feels much easier on the wallet

I remember playing this game like 10 years ago! HAHAHA! you and your team earns money by kills and objectives, and with that money you can set up cool stuff throughout the map like bunkers, or turrets. Really awesome.
