Hey all, I wanted to try to gauge what sort of PC presence we have at the moment.
I was part of the clan in BC2 which went under because we didn't have enough people. I wouldn't mind trying to take the reins on a PC clan if we've got enough people interested.
I bounced off of a couple shitty BC2 clans after ours fell apart, and it would be nice to not have to do that again. Also, if there's not enough interest to run our own clan on PC, does anyone have any recommendations? Being good while clanless seems to be much more difficult than it is in the CoD series.
I for one will be there. I'll be making a USMG "Platoon" on the PC side day one.

i got it for PC and PS3, i prefer PC but most of my friends are PS3, hence the need for both
I am on PC as well, Th3Cap3.

What are your guys' main specs on your rigs? Until all the parts arrive for my new one this weekend and next week, I'm running:
Win7 x64
E8400 @3.6
HD4870 1GB mildly OC'd
2x2 GB DDR3 @ 1600 MHz
1920x1080 main with a secondary 1920x1080
I'm having some issues even when I go ahead and eliminate the second monitor. CPU usage is pegged through the entire fight, and it seems like every time I ADS at a target, or others get near me, I stutter a bit. Needless to say, that really sucks. At first I thought it could be the GPU, but I turned some of the settings down (all of them actually), and I still get major FPS drops at times. My pegged CPU usage seems to be the culprit, and I've gone ahead and gotten rid of all the processes running that don't need to be so....
...is the E8400 just a bicycle in a race against four-wheeled cars? Has gaming FINALLY gone ahead and shown me that I need to ditch the dual core? Or am I just doin it rong?

DICE recommends a quad core for BF3, Your dualcore is deffantly the culprate here. makes sense, you got a ATI card so your physics are being handled by the CPU.
even my quadcore is pretty taxed!

Ugh well it's a good thing I'm getting a new rig then, the first part just arrived yesterday. I've been holding on to the dual core for the longest time simply because nothing I played taxed it like this. I knew it was coming though.
How are the SLI 560ti doing for you? I was down to either that setup or a single 580. Not sure quite yet.
Also, how did you install BF3 on the SSD? I was trying to figure out where you can point Origin to install games to a user-defined directory, but I couldn't find anything (admittedly I probably wasn't completely thorough).

Origin should automatically install anything to the C: drive, or the drive that it is installed on. Trying to get it to install anything like on D: or E: is problematic.
Windows see's the SSD has C:, scence it is my primary boot partition.
With the 560's, it comes down to:
1: does your mobo support SLI
2: you got enough spare juice in your power supply (I recommend a minimum of 650 for SLI)
3: price, if you can get two 560's for cheaper than a single 580. They perform at about a 580 with a little OC'ing

BF3 being my ONLY Origin product, I dont need to get it to install anywhere else.

Yeah I'm thinking it has to do with my lack of physx support on the GPU side combined with the fact that I've only got two cores, even if they are overclocked a bit. I guess I could venture back into the BIOS and push it up to 4.0 but then every once in a long while I crash pretty hard. I'll probably just make do with the lower settings, stop being a crybaby, and get my shit together for this new rig.
And saviger, yes the reason why it concerned me a bit about having a user-defined installation path is because I'm going to go SSD as well and will put BF3 on it as it's my C: drive, but my concern is with whether or not I'll be installing other games in the near future as well. It would suck to be forced to keep them all on the SSD drive.

you know, honestly, with my older setting. and having played consistently all weekend. I had no framerate drops, or latency.. and I have my settings turned up too. So its either the Iops from your harddisk causing buffers, or your lack of quad core.
assuming you have the latest drivers.. I highly doubt its memory or OS issues...

As far as drivers go, do you have ATI or nVidia? With the ATI cards, I've always had to be wary; sometimes the updated drivers cause more problems than they solve. That being said, my drivers are updated. I'm pretty sure it's CPU-related because I monitor it while the game is running. I'm pegged or just under pegged for the entire game. I'm wondering what kind of stress that puts on the chip, seeing as how it's on air, OC'd 20%, and it's been doing this for three years (actually spent a lot of time at 3.9 and 4.0 back in the day).

It is most deffantly time to replace that silicon, if you got the cash... Upgrade to a AMD chipset and CPU :D. The AMD chips run cooler and are more reliable.
Not to mention, the AMD chips are cheaper :-) Plus, i think they just dropped their 8 core units as well :-)
I use nvidia chips. EVGA all the way, is the brand I like.. rock solid stuff IMO. :D

As far as CPU, its really a matter of preference. I know the fanboys will lay the smack down on me, but unless you really got a hawt-hard-on for 1 or the other, either will get the job done.
I personally prefer Intel, only cause its what I know, its all I have ever run, but I'm positive, Sav loves his AMD, and I'm sure Th3Cap3 loves his Hexcore.
