I wanted to start a thread where members can post what kind of trade-in value they are getting for their games. While values will vary from date to date and location to location, it will help give a general idea of which games are getting what kind of value.

You should indicate what store/website you traded in to (Gamestop, Best Buy, Amazon, etc.) and the date. List the games you traded in and what you were given for them. Make sure to note if there was a special promotion or you used a membership card of some sort (i.e. Gamestop's Power Up Rewards).

Additionally, if you are able to sell your games on eBay, Craigslist, etc., you can indicate that you sold them there and what you were able to get for them.

I'll lead off my trades I made today in the next post.

October 22, 2011

Today I traded in some games at my local GameStop towards my Battlefield 3 pre-order. Because I was trading for this specific game, I was given a 30% bonus on my trade values. Additionally, I used my Power Up Rewards Pro card, which tacked on an additional 10% on top of that. Below is what I received as credit for each:

(All games were for Playstation 3)
Assassin's Creed - $6.64
Assassin's Creed 2 - $7.74
Terminator: Salvation - $8.84
Star Wars The Force Unleashed - $8.84
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - $11.02
Battlefield: Bad Company - $2.20
Killzone 2: $6.62
SOCOM 4 - $13.24
EA Sports MMA - $8.82

FYI: A friend of mine also traded in his Call of Duty: Black Ops game and got $15.44 for it (same deal as mine, with the Power Up Pro card).

Has anyone used Amazon to trade games in? I've never used BestBuy and Gamestop rips you off, but I was curious about Amazon.

I've not used it, but I've heard "horror" stories about it where people would mail their games in and then get some kind of response that the disc wasn't in the game case. I've heard this more than once. Don't know what's truth or urban legend, but I've avoided it.

Thanks, will do. So then is Bestbuy the best option? I just hate how Gamestop rapes you on the value, even with a gamercard.

Your best bet may be Craigslist, eBay, or try selling/trading them here. You'll more likely get what you think is a fair price that way.

EDIT: Also note that Toys R Us is in the pre-owned game business. I don't know how good it is, but here's the link: http://www.toysrus.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=3088666

Additionally, Wal-Mart is selling pre-owned games, but I can't find any info on how you can sell/trade games with them.

Sweet, thanks for the information. I will check out those options.

I've used them alot. you get more money for Xbox game thou...thought that was kind of weird since PS3 is blueray. it was pretty simple just sign up and type in Trade in. and their menu should pop up and click on games and or just type in the game your trading and on the right hand corner below the buy button you should see trade in button.

Yeah I have over 25k in gamestop points.... completely useless... probably be smarter to resell on amazon if I wanted to put forth more effort.

My daughter wanted her own PS3 for her birthday present. Since she's worked her butt of between school, band, volleyball, Girl Scouts, babysitting her little sister and helping care for her handicapped twin brother, I figured she more than deserved one. So I took a handful of games that were collecting dust off the shelf and headed to Gamestop to trade 'em in. Here's what I got for them using my PowerUp Pro card. All games are PS3 titles unless noted:

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - $6.64 (good memories, but I haven't touched it since BF3)
MAG - $0.83 (that's sad.....it was once an epic, epic game)
Brink - $0.83 (it was definitely a different FPS for sure)
Assassin's Creed Revelations - $16.54
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood - $14.34
Mass Effect 2 (XBOX) - $11.04
Mass Effect 1 - $16.54
Super Street Fighter IV (3DS) - $9.94

Totals: $76.70

Brink was weird still gotta finish out the achievements for it. I never ran on MAG
... missed out on that one. Not a bad trade in at all!

I love gamestop, most of all around the end of October because that is when it stretches the return policy till the first couple weeks of January. So it is well over 2 months in stead of 7 days.....

Best Buy is currently offering $100 trade in for Xbox and PS3's consoles. It can be any itineration of the console and you get a $100 gift card. You can also trade in iPhones for this deal but the $100 has to go to a new phone.

You'll never believe where I am texting you from? FROM A MOUNTAIN, ON MY PHONE!

Still... unless I had an old XBOX you can get quite a bit more for a newer one at GameStop.

I might have to trade mine in for an xbone. I have the black 250 gig. What's the trade in value at GameStop for that one?

Um, last I just read was that Gamestop was giving $100 for just an Xbox-Slim, so no. Gamestop is not giving significantly more for newer Xboxes. I think that is a big mark up where ever you go. I saw on Black Friday that they will have new Xboxes for $100, and game bundle Xboxes for $150. So $100 for any old Xbox is a great deal.

You should still get +30% towards next gen and +10% for power up card. I would bet for a working 250 you would get around $125+. My broken 4gb got me 90$. So can't hurt to check.
