I was wondering if the community would be interested in Internet Relay Chat (IRC).
"Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a protocol for real-time Internet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet) text messaging (chat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_chat)) or synchronous conferencing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synchronous_conferencing). It is mainly designed for group communication (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Many-to-many) in discussion forums, called channels (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Relay_Chat#Channels), but also allows one-to-one communication (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-to-one_(communication)) via private message (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant_messaging) as well as chat and data transfer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_Client-to-Client), including file sharing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_sharing).
IRC was created in 1988. Client software (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_Relay_Chat_clients) is now available for every major operating system that supports Internet access. As of April 2011, the top 100 IRC networks served more than half a million users at a time, with hundreds of thousands of channels operating on a total of roughly 1,500 servers out of roughly 3,200 servers worldwide."
Chatting is a good way for members to stay in touch. The best thing about IRC is that it is free. There are several ways to access it, like stand alone programs or even a forum plug-in. If the community would be interested in me setting setting this up just give me the word.
We've tried it in the past, and it wasn't very popular, but I'll give it a try again, if you want.

IRC is a great way to get in contact with on another. Forums are good also, but there is a time delay. I hope IRC bring the community closer.

eRock and myself are setting everything up to make it more user friendly. eRock will be posting a detailed guide on how to access IRC via different clients.
You can use this link for the time being: http://widget.mibbit.com/?settings=f900f807bc1e06c9daa2b775754fdf1e&server=irc.web.gamesurge.net&channel=%23USMG
It is already posted. It said it had to be approved before it would show up ?

Hmmm, maybe because you have not been verified.

yep, but it's taken care of now. it's been approved and up for viewing.
Is anyone able to use the IRC Chat link above?
I just see it attempting to connect, however, my office might be blocking port 6667.
What say youz?

Toby got on. I got the following message:
x_31BX_x, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Yeah, it worked now. Is there anyway to make it a pop-up in a separate window? You are not able to leave the window or it will disconnect. I believe a separate window pop-up would work more effectively.
Not without hand coding the javapop into the NAVbar.
I'm still playing with it...

Ok well you are the man. What ever you can do will be fine with me. Also, eRock told me that if we get enough people to idle in the chat room, we will be able to obtain some free stuff. So, hopefully we can get more people on chatting.
How about on this new link?
