iEntertainment Network announced today the start of beta testing for their upcoming free online strategy game M4 Tank Brigade Online, which is expected to release commercially in March of 2012.
A bit of star power has a helping hand in development through retired Lt. Colonel "Wild Bill" Stealey, who was a co-founder for MicroProse Software with Sid Meier, who went on to be the producer of top military simulation games such as F-15 Strike Eagle, Gunship, F-19 Stealth Fighter, Silent Service, and M1 Tank Platoon. M1 Tank Platoon is known to be one of Wild Bill's favorite MicroProse games.
In M4 Tank Brigade Online, players can play for free, earning Defense Credits to upgrade their combat vehicles or purchase them in small microtransaction payments.
“We know there is a competitive microtransaction tank game in the marketplace that is very successful financially. We have played it. We think our large combat terrains, our historical accuracy, our large WarBirds Online Community, and our well trained and enthusiast Community Mangers, give M4 Tank Brigade a real advantage over the competitive product! And I know what made M1 Tank Platoon successful and I have brought that combat decision matrix to M4 Tank Brigade Online. We look forward to significant new revenues from M4 Tank Brigade Online in 2012,” says Wild Bill.
Players can utilize a variety of tanks and armored guns with different abilities for their battles, ranging from maneuverability, firepower and combat abilitiy. The player commands his own vehicle and commands one to three other vehicles as squad mates. Artillery and air strikes are also at the player's control, bringing a sense of combined arms to the battlefield.
