Going wireless...

and Skyrim (free). Also getting a couple of AE2500 dongles to go with it. Here in NC I have a cable modem. When I get moved to FL I'll be on DSL. The DSL is plugged into my wife's system and I'll connect over the E4200. I also want to connect to the TV (insert dongle) and Blu-ray player (already built into Blu-ray).

Soooooo, am I on the right track or is there a better way to go ??

EDIT: Scratch the AE2500. To many problems in the reviews. Now looking at Rosewill dongle's. Reviews say they use the same chipset as the Samsung linkstick, which saves a bunch since Samsung wants $80 for it.

Our systems are in different rooms with hers right next to the DSL modem. My system will be 30-40 feet from the DSL modem, passing thru only 1 wall, unless I can mount an USB antenna above the door, outside of the room my computer is in. I also want to be able to play movies from my system to the TV (Samsung 55" LED without wireless built in). The Blu-ray player has wireless built into it. Running a wired network is NOT an option with her lmao. So working from one end of the house to the other: Wife's computer room; Home theater system in living room; my computer room.

The main reason I'm looking at the Linksys E4200 is because I can get Skyrim for free in a combo order. But it's not a requirement if there's a better router.

What kind of DSL modem are they providing? If you ask, your ISP might just give you a wireless DSL gateway(might have to pay..?), which your wife could plug directly into, and it still gives wireless for your mobile devices.

The problem you will have with the linksys you've chosen, is that its a router, and if you connect it directly to your DSL gateway (another router), you need need to make some config changes to allow them to talk directly to each other.
For the tech savy, not a huge deal, but if you've never done it before, you might be in a little over your head.

30-40 feet through walls might be iffy. you might or might not need a repeater.

I will tell you for certain, the more devices you place on your wireless, the slower your wireless speed will be, because the bandwidth provided by the wireless router is additive and divided evenly among all the devices using it. (ex. 100mb wireless divided by 5 wireless devices, will yield 20MB per device if each device is online and connected.)

Yep, they would charge. Whichever way I go, I don't want to have to pay CenturyLink to provide it.

Ok, so it seems I'll just be running a CAT wire under the house to my computer room and just plug in the D-Link router I already have. That, I can do. First I'll check the DSL modem to see if there's another rj45 input. As small as the modem is I doubt it. Well, I'll run a wire or just break down and have CenturyLink come out. There goes my chance on the free Skyrim lmao...
