You know most of the time I am of the mind that Civilians should keep out of military things. Typically they don't understand what is going on with service members and why one thing or another might be amusing or fun to a guy or gal who is forward deployed.

HOWEVER ... this is just complete and utter bullshit. The "sucks to be you" comment at the bottom just feels like such a deliberate, irreverent and disrespectful affront to the fallen it makes me want to scream.

This is a training safety poster, it means (crossed arms=stop, da dump= sound of loose cargo pallets inside aircraft, rolling right at you will up to one thousand LBS of cargo, the rope is attached to a WHEEL CHOCK, to keep the airplane from rolling on humans, the chains secure cargo, the NOOSE! is actually a ratcheting cargo strap, for mooring cargo into the FLOOR ROLLERS ON THE AIRCRAFT DECK!, and the dead soldier CAN BE YOU if you do not follow safety protocol, STAY ALERT, STAY ALIVE, and under the poster is a caption that reads, not following cargo handling procedure can land you in a box, and then the proper Air Force Publication reference to the technical manual about how to use chains cargo straps and what to look for to assure the aircraft is safe to load and unload cargo,

THIS POSTER was meant for AVIATION GROUND CREWS, not for the general population, that is why it escapes you, you do not know the message because it was not meant for you, bureaucrats and civilian air force representatives, ARE NOT AVIATION GROUND CREW PERSONNEL, they cant even imagine where to put oil on an aircraft, or even about how to push the cargo from the carrier rack truck into the pop up rollers attached to the floor of aircraft.

If that's the case then this is a classic example of "good initiative, but piss poor execution". Not to mention it was my experience that if anyone even thought of the words "hangman's noose" let alone tied one was up to their ass in hot water ASAP.

My question is how do that many people think this photo was actually funny. If that would have been my tech school class I would have raised the BS flag as soon as the idea was thrown out to take a photo like that. That's pure disrespect there. Yeah but one thing which was apparent while I was in was that discipline was doled out based more on the results of the actions as opposed to original intent.

Regardless of what audience this was intended for, or the true message behind it, it's become a black eye and PR nightmare.

Yeah like I said their intentions were not bad, just one of those things where you don't realize what was done until you look back and realize how it could be perceived. The picture could've been taken before the incident as well... definitely could be taken way out of context. But yes I'm sure they regret it.

As a non-civvie who was Army Aviation, I think it's both appalling and outright disrespectful. Do I need to be directly in the Air Force to get the context? If so, I'll happily site numerous Air Force service members who fully agree with me. As well as several who see the "attempt" at justification as utterly ludicrous and entirely fallacious.

Being completely oblivious to the level of disrespect you're laying down for your fellow servicemembers isn't a defense. If anything, based the complete lack of common sense in the people in this picture, especially on the NCO's parts, I'd throw the book at them. I've seen pretty severe penalties for a hell of a lot less.
