What's Wrong With These Pictures????

It really pisses me off with what they get away with in todays Military. Hell this kid was taking pictures with his cell phone and posting them to his Facebook all threw Basic and AIT. The things that I see on this kids Face Book is F'ed up. These kids are like on a little vacation and treat Basic and AIT like no big deal. All the pictures from Motels rooms with Alcohol and girls. WTF??? When I was in Basic we got a weekend pass between Basic and AIT. We went of base to Columbus, GA (which is right outside the gates of Ft. Benning). We couldn't do shit because every time we turned around there was a Drill Sgt. We where scared as hell to do anything. Hell this kid in the 1st picture came home for at least a week before he started AIT.Anyway what do you see wrong with this picture???

Is this how our Soldiers are being trained now days??? Is this why so many are KIA or F'ed up down range??? I would hate to be in combat with a poorly trained Soldier where me life and my friends lives are on the line.

Yeah, when I was in basic we were not allowed off base. It was right after 9-11 so we got no weekend pass until we were in AIT. Then it was like you said, the DS were everywhere so our ability to fuck around was seriously hindered. We would get the breath test whenever we came back from our night out to ensure sobriety. Also, if we had pictures of us wearing rank other than private we would have been toast, it makes me sad to see this is what the ARMY has now.

Maybe it's me and I'm hallucinating but it looks like his patrol cap has a private insignia on it and his sleeve has first sergeant on it. wtf?

This kid in the first pic was the acting first SGT while in AIT which is given to the troop so they start knowing command structure. The DS in AIT gave this to him and that is why it is pinned on. Depending on how long his AIT is plus his performance during the training is how long he keeps them stripes. As for the other two pics they are just blowing off steam and getting laid in the process. The funny thing is when I had AIT we were not allowed to have civi's till week 8 of AIT. When we got a weekend pass we went to the mall bought civi's then when we came back on post we hid them up in the ceiling till the next pass. The problem was our DS always completed a barracks check and knew what we were doing and had us in formation and threw them out the window. This happened to me. The DS gave me 1st SGT stripes and not ten minutes later had me on my back doing scissor kicks while she threw my civi's out the window. I think I had the shortest reign in 1st SGT history. It was great memories.

Shack... Thanks for the for the explanation on the 1st Sgt. stripes. We had to learn the chain of command and all the ranks hard way. I remember saluting everyone that walked near me at first. When I started to really learn was when I saluted a E-5 Sgt. He proceeded to tell me how he worked for a living. :lol:

You army guys do some things differently, like letting some private be acting 1st sergeant and to actually wear the patch. We didn't have anything like that as far as I can remember. Thanks for the explanation.

25th, This is why there will always be a Divide from Combat Arms and Support MOSs. They have their Simple Basic with women, then how ever long AIT at another location with passes and Civies. Compared to Combat Arms of 18-25 weeks of straight Red Phase. With only one 24 hour pass, and cant leave Post.
But I have to say We come out some Mean, Bloodthirsty, Hardcore individuals.

Sav....I guess I am just now realizing the difference in Basic/AIT training for Combat and Support. I still feel that all Basics should be the same. Either they're going to make or they're not. Isn't the Marine Corp basic the same???? I still can't believe the stress card deal either. Ohhh.... not to sound like an ass. This is on a serious note guys. I do believe it was a lot of the support units that got all messed up at the beginning of Iraq. Should have they had it harder in basic and trained more Combat Techniques (ITT)??? What went wrong there??? I know there was a lot of shake-n-bake going on. I wasn't there but, I often wonder. F it I am going to drink another beer. :D Sorry guys this REALLY fires me up!!!!

Yeah the Marine Corps is one plan for boot camp, regardless of MOS or gender, but from there you've got SOI for grunts and MCT for pogues. Boot camp has gotten significantly softer in the past few years, no thanks to the media and the mothers of America. It is reflecting in the finished product quite badly. I got out in 08, joined in 01, and even in that short period of time, the difference between the FNG's at our unit was staggering. You're almost guaranteed to get "why"s, defiance, and laziness out of a majority of them these days. This wasn't always the case. I hear they've got those stress cards too, and the Drill Instructors can't touch the recruits. I know I didn't have boot camp as hard as some well before me, but I got the shit choked out of me several times, stiff-armed too many times to count ("ONE ARM'S DISTANCE RECRUIT!!!"), and I think it was absolutely fine.

Couple the recent changes in training policy with the fact that they've lowered their initial acceptance standards, and it's not hard to see why the Corps is so full of shit bags these days.

Yes, the marine corps has the same boot camp for all MOS's. Then after boot camp we all have to go to MCT or Marine Combat Training. Where you learn how to dig fighting holes, shoot the 240G and throw grenades for the first time, obstacale courses, MCMAP or Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, you also have war simulation going against other squads with blanks, and miles of humps. MCMAP is also taught in boot camp but goes more in depth during your month of MCT.

Once the marines are done with MCT they go home for a ten day leave. After that we are shipped off to our perspective MOS schools. So regardless of your MOS or active or reserve status all Marines get the same training. The one exception is the grunts who go to SOI or School of Infantry and they learn a hell of a lot more then we do at MCT.

you went straight from boot to MCT db? we got boot leave for 7 days or whatever it was, then on to MCT and then straight to MOS school from there. As a reservist i still spent 1 year active with all my initial training before finally reporting in to my reserve unit.

I think the weirdest training comes from the 92 day reservists though. They work around a school schedule so they go to boot then check into the reserve unit with no MOS. they do drill as normal until the next summer where they go to either MOS schooling or MCT, which ever is most convenient i guess. Then the following summer they go to which ever training they didn't do the previous summer. So it takes 3 years for these guys to get fully trained. I don't like it, I think it would be better to have them finish college and go to OCS or something

No I accidently said that you get the 7-10 days whatever it was after MCT when in fact it was after boot camp not MCT. Yeah I never understood that 92 day deal they have going. My bad :lol:

DB, Max and Ragin...Thanks for the explanations. This is what I say the Army should do. Same basic no matter what the MOS is and the onto the prospective AIT for their MOS.

Ragin...the part with the deficiency is the upbringing. I mean I am not saying that ALL parents are bad at upbringing their kids. This is coming from a Father of a 17, 15 and 10 year old boys. The thing that is the problem with todays society is...The kids can go to School and play the Teachers when they are pissed at the parents. The Teachers are Mandated reports to CPS (Child Protective Service) So, as soon as the Teachers hear something they have to report it. I have been threw this MANY times. It also doesn't help to have an EX (Like I do) battling with you to get custody of the kids. I actually have a FOUNDED report from 2 years ago for lighting firecrackers with my boys. WTF??? I fought it and didn't win. Go Figure!!! Of course the EX had all to do with it...but, I still have my boys. :D So, what I am saying is....a tleast here in NY State they (The State) strap the parents hand and don't allow a proper upbringing. I am not saying kids need an ass beating but, at times they do need a crack on the ass.
So, there is my prospective on some of the BS that happens today and trickles into the Military. I feel that ALL kids should be made to go into the military for a minimum of 2yrs. I understand that their are kids with situations behind their control that wouldn't be able to handle the Military but, I bet they will be more respectful and maybe JUST maybe crime would go down. Correct, this is some of the stuff I was talking about in the other topic. I went through OSUT. that equals, me being in the same bunk from day 0 of basic, to graduating AIT. no weekends off. The only contact I could have with the outside notes was Via mail, or the 1 phone call I got every sunday, for a max of 10 min. Glad I got out of active when I did. I'd killed some PVTs if they'd acted like that around me.

Yeah, parents can't be parents (nor do they generally seem to care to be anymore), teachers can't teach and discipline, and now the military can't properly train troops. I agree that it's a common theme, and a sad one, but I thought maybe the military would hold out on the pussification. Maybe not.
