does anyone have any advice on which headset to buy. My choices are either the Tritton AX720 or the Astro's A40

yea i checked out Turtle beaches and read alot and i heard and seen you don't get what you paid for. Its like razer kind of you get a 50/50 chance of either getting a decent product or an aweful one its why i narrowed it down to those two headsets i just don't know which one to get lol

I asked the same question some time ago. Here's what my choices came down to, the Tritton and Turtle Beach. The guys helped me out with info and I came dawn to the Tritton AX Pro. Here's a link to the thread if it'll help you out.

http://usmilitarygamers.com/community/showthread.php?t=4624

The Astros are nice if not way too expensive for me. But the fact it can be used for more devices than the 360/ps3/pc makes it a great choice. Just make sure its what you really want to get before you sink that kinda money into a headset.

Well, I use three sets. It wasn't intentional but I do use all three on 2 different xbox's. Triton 720's, turtle beach 31's, and skullcrushers(skull candy). In the end if I'm not chatting the best sound comes from my skull crushers, amazing! Between the other two I prefer the turtle beach cuz I really don't blast the game sounds and I really like the wireless feature. I know I recently trashed my tritons on this forum but the problem was a $7 adapter I picked up at radio shack, now they are good as new. Go simple with some turtle beach 31x.

Angry,

It just so happens I have a pair of the 720's that I am thinking of selling. I bought them about a year ago, for when we had clan matches (LOL). I used them 3 maybe 4 times for about a total of 6hrs. They are great, but unfortunately, the way my living room is setup, wired is not convenient. That, and a full headset doesn't work well for me, since the wife is always wanting to talk to me while I am gaming.

Let me know if you are interested.

That's odd, I find a full headset an added bonus when the wife wants to talk while I'm gaming.

I dont know where you getting your info but TB are amazing. I got the COD: MW3 Delta Ear Force headset that have the wireless bluetooth adapter for the xbox is right on. (and if your a baller you can connect it with the PS3 too.) Plus since your in the best country in the world, you can simply take them back if you dont like them.

I've had one set of TBs and took good care of them and was always careful. The mic housing split and fell off (about two and a half months in), then the resistance-bearing part of the head band snapped (four months in), making it completely useless.

For that kind of money, it's ridiculous to have it being held together with duct tape after only a couple months. Even duct tape couldn't rectify the head band part though.

I've heard other people talk about TB headsets that they had which didn't have any problems at all for a very long time though, so my experience may be isolated and abnormal.

Have Triton AX Pro (http://www.trittonusa.com/prod/bopsps3.asp) and the PS3 Headset (http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Stereo-Headset-Playstation-3/dp/B0053OLY9O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325880767&sr=8-1) and I like both. As for preference I like the sound of the AX Pro’s if setup correctly. There are a lot of settings on this headset. The only downside is they are wired and the control is weighted to much and to close to the ear cup even if it has a clip so you can attach it to your shirt. The PS3 doesn’t have the same sound quality as the AX Pro’s but it does sound good and the best part is that it is BT and no wires. The only draw back of these is the left ear cup has some type of plastic scraping when you move around which is annoying and I wish they would have put the controls on the ear face instead of the ear sides. I love the gigantic mute button though.

Here is a link to my review of the Sony Wireless headset.

I've now been running it for a while and it just rocks. Especially considering it was $99.00 if you haven't already give it a read. It would be my hands down recommendation for a headset.

I've got x31's and I like the sound quality and wireless features. Also, like the jerky boy below said, the footstep booster function gives clear advantage in buildings and when opponents are running near you. One issue I've had as lately is some echo and interference issues, but im not sure if it's headset related. I'm buying the MW3 ones today I hope, cuz I want the 7.1 Dolby...

Turtle Beach X41s or Astro A40s, after reading lots of reviews it seems like they are the best way to go for a competitive gamer. I had X31s but when I got the X41s I just gave em away. Surround sound gives the gamer a huge advantage over opponents that just have stereo as an audio option. Anyways, just my 2 cents, hope this helps in someway.

Statistically, the most failures occur after 1 year and after 3-4 years for most electronics (failing right after the end of the default warranty, and failing after the end of the extended warranty. That's why most extended warranties are a gimmick.

No, no. That's not what I said. I said "most failures", not "most of them fail". Big difference. Most last past the 1-yr mark, that's just a big spike in failures, and the other big spike (probably a larger spike, IIRC) is at the 3-yr mark or so (after the extended warranty expires). It's been awhile since I researched this, but it's from a study done by Consumer Reports.

I have a 2 year warranty. They're gonna "break" before that is up. I kinda have an issue with them anyway. The connection to the headset may be loose. Sometimes I have to unplug and replug the cable back into the headset before the mic will work. Also it clicks , quietly but noticeably, when i touch the plug or when i turn my head so the cord hits my shoulder. I may get a replacement soon I think.

It varies from gadget to gadget. Some gadgets may have a high fail rate inside the warranty period. In those cases, an extended warranty may be worth it. But in most cases, the warranty periods are set at a point where it's not likely many will fail.

I have X41's and I've had them about a year (got them a little before last christmas), they are the wireless kind so the only complaint I have is that they run out of batteries quickly. As some of you know I'm on XboX a lot though and I usually replace the batteries once a week. That's only two AAA batteries but if you don't have any on hand (like this week) it can be frustrating. Other than that, I have no complaints at all. If you're running within about 40 feet of me without Dead Silence, you're as good as dead.

I have an extra set of Beaches coming in HHG, seeing as I damn well wasn't going to let my soon-to-be ex-wife keep them. Whenever I get them, I'll put em in the for sale forum.

I bought the X31's from tb back in the day. No problems, and the wife still uses them for watching movies when the kid's napping.

Those are for chat only. The headsets everyone is talking about has all game sound come through in full surround sound. Big difference!! Once you use a gaming headset, you won't be able to play without it!!

I can't wait until February when the Xbox One headsets finally come out. I think I am going to get the Polk Audio headset. If they are anything like the Polk center channel speaker I bought in 1990, and is still going strong, they will be great.

So true. I had to go back to a Bluetooth for now due to the son using and breaking mine. Once you start enjoying full surround in your ears the the single speaker headsets are like going from a Ferrari to a Yugo

I know nothing about this topic. All I know is that a good headset will help me with directional sound, and the brand name Turtle Beach has a positive connotation. I almost just jumped in and bought this...

But I am skeptical... price seems too low for something of quality. Advice?

Opinions vary. I bought a pair of TB X31's nearly 3 years ago, and they worked great. Rechargeable batteries and I was good. My wife still uses them to watch movies on my 360 when the kid is napping.

Turtle Beach does make great headset. You here about them because they make headsets for every price range. You need to decide what you want then chose a headset. Do you like wireless, or are wires not a problem for you.? Do you have a limit in cost because they can go as high as $300?

The idea of $300 headset flabergasts me. I don't think I could ever see myself spending more than $50 on a headset. What do you think of those cheap turtle beach one from the link I sent? How much is a set with surround sound?

As far as wires, I am looking for a 360 headset, so I don't mind wires.

Well, I found a pair of the cheap ones for $8, so why not?! Now I am still shopping around for some good ones. I would like a surround sound set, and there are some in the 60-70 range..... so I'm going to hunt ebay for a while.

Thanks for the advice!
