Best way to get video of gameplay?

Ok all you computer and tech experts, what are your suggestions on getting quality video of our gameplay for upload onto youtube and whatnot? I want to start doing this cause I don't know how and I'd like to learn.

Couple of ways:

PVR something like this: (for xbox/ps3) http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/prods.html

or

Use Fraps (pc). It's free for 30sec recordings or $37 for unlimited with lifetime updates.

Most anything you use internal to your PC will have some sort of effect on FPS. Of course, the stronger (high-end) the PC, the less effect. Mostly, as long as you can get 25 - 30 fps while recording, there shouldn't be to many problems.

Thanks Saddle, I'm primarily going to be filming console gameplay cause I don't have a PC, I have a Mac. Good news is Star Wars: TOR is going to be released for Mac in the future so...

I just got it today, but it didnt come with a hard drive or anything. I was thinking of going the flash drive route cause I thought it would be easier to transport to my mac than a 2.5" HDD. Any suggestions?

i agree with your thinking that transferring to your mac would be easier using the usb hd option. or are you meaning you want to use a small thumb drive? if you used a thumb drive you may find it filling up rather fast, more so if you record videos in 1080i. not much of an issue if you're only recording one video at a time and then transferring it straight to your computer. If it were me i'd use an external HD, prob 500gigs or so

whatever option you do go with, make sure it is FAT32 formatted so you can be ensured your mac can read it. The mac i'm using laughs at me if i try to connect a NTSF formatted drive to it

i'd look at the options like this:

thumb drive - lower price, smallest capacity, most portable
internal drive - medium price, large capacity, minimal portability
external drive - higher price (paying for the drive and the housing it comes in), large capacity, fairly portable

Good point Max. I still would like to go the USB route. Are there HDD's that have lots of memory space and still connect via USB?

Yea it can use a 2.5" sata drive but I'm worried about connectivity to my Mac

Are you trying to input it from your phone? That is what the m. just before the link means. If you are then the URL is going to be different and wont work the same. I don't know the fix to that for I haven't done much for forums from my phone. I am on the comp and I tried to input your vids into the comment and it worked. I open the video in its own page and copied the URL from the address bar. Then did the film strip up top in the editor.

Its fine, but I have to convert the avi. files into mov. files to view them, which is no big deal now that I know how. I'm using a 500GB WD My Passport for Mac as a Hard Drive. It works great.
