Looking to buy my first...-real- car

Let me get this out of the way first...I'm 22 and never had a license. Had a car prior to the Navy and drove that around, and after I went into DEP, I was scared to get a ticket so I stopped. I tried taking the test and failed 4 times due to having the same cranky hag each time (however that's possible). Regardless, I've been driving again and coming up Saturday I'm going to try for my first time outside of a different state for that piece of plastic. Anyways, I was looking at buying a new 2012 Nissan Altima...I was stuck on the Infiniti G35 for a while until I realized...a new car with 0 miles is cheaper than a 3-6 year old car with xxxx miles on it. Any tips on what I should go into the dealer with whenever I obtain this license? (Hopefully Saturday)

Where are you stationed? Where are you from? How's your credit? New or used? Do you deploy at your current duty stain? Do you have USAA? Do you have a good relationship with your bank? If you can answer these questions it could go a long way to helping you.

Stationed close enough to DC...Andrews AFB. I'm from....all over the place. Basically, El Paso, TX. Border city....Credit score is A+, however I just got a credit card to start 'building' the credit I already have or whatever. New. No deploy, I have Navy Fed, and yes.

Dc's expensive might be a good idea to price vehicle registration in Texas against it if that's where you enlisted. Get a preapproval from your bank before you shop it to give you some leverage in the financing. If you have to have new evaluate how many miles you think you'll be driving, you might want to consider a lease if it looks like you'll be driving less than12k a year.
Take a knowledgeable friend with you and try to haggle a little if you can. The end of the month is usually the best time to get a deal.
Bearing all this in mind you should shop rates for insurance before you go because it will be required before you leave the lot.
lastly, don't get discouraged if you have trouble financing sometimes no credit or short credit history can be as bad as poor credit history.

I won't be going back to Texas period, due to my family moving yet again, and now they all live in Virginia/New Jersey scattered east coast areas. I already did a quote with Geico and they seem reasonable enough, but I'll have to do it again with everyone else, because I like my money.

Well, I'll see, because I'm taking my 1 friend, and I'm gonna have to calculate how much it's gonna cost each month...I've already got it down to 224 a month for the car...so that's not bad.

LMAO!!!!!!! Sorry bro, saw your post and had to respond to it. I can not understand why you shouldn't pass you DL test, it super easy. I have 3 different DL and two of them are from different countrys, plus the test arent even in english. First thing I can tell you is, did you ask the DL tester what you did wrong so you can fix it the next go around and if you that bad of a driver I would not want you to be on the road. So get your DL first then look for a car. you could test in Virginia, I know they test during opening hours. So try that. Sorry for the Harsh words but someone need to do it. Good luck on the test and see you when you have your DL then we can talk more about cars.

forget GEICO, go with USAA. They have all kinds of services that are free once you are a member. Plus, their call centers are all state side. And staffed (Mostly) with Vets, or military family members.

This goes a long way when trying to get something worked out.

As far as insurance goes I have State Farm they've been good with me. As far as cars go my dad has a Scion that I also drive and I love it he has the Xd. We are big guys over 6 feet tall with really wide shoulders and we fit in it pretty well. The stock radio/stereo is pretty good. The gas mileage is good and its a Toyota too so it will last forever. We got a better financing through Toyota than we did through our bank. Theres my suggestion hope it helps you out

Like I said on my first post, I had bought a care, title in my name and everything and I drove it around to like Mickey D's and stuff. Well, my documentation wasn't good enough to take the test in VA.. Even though it's clearly my name and a VA address but whatever.. Next week when the document they want gets here..I was ready today too :/ Oh well, got plenty of practice driving back and forth lol

Also may I add if u are ever in the market for a car again if u have USAA, they have a very helpful car shopping app on their site. Or u can call them and they will Handel pretty much everything, all u have to do is tell them ur prefrances.
