The National Museum of the Marine Corps teamed with the U.S. Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment on the Museum´s first exhibit featuring wounded Marines. The exhibit, titled “Focus on Ability: Celebrating Our Wounded, Ill and Injured Marines´ Achievements” features photographs and artwork of wounded, ill and injured Marines. The pieces are powerful and moving, as they focus on the Marines´ courageous journey to recovery.
Visitors to the exhibit will learn about the struggle of a rehabilitating Marine, and witness their determination and grit in pushing through the healing process. Commenting on the display, Col. John L. Mayer, commanding officer of the Wounded Warrior Regiment, said, “This exhibit captures the fighting spirit of our wounded, ill and injured Marines. We are looking forward to the public being able to see the outstanding accomplishments of our Marines throughout the Corps as they strengthen their mind, body, spirit and family.”
The photos show wounded Marines participating in activities – horsemanship, adaptive sports, Marine Corps missions – that are critical to their recovery and keep them engaged with the Corps. The artwork featured in the exhibit was created by the wounded warriors themselves.
The exhibit is displayed on the Museum´s second floor. Visitors can view the exhibit through May 10, 2012
