EA is bringing us a sequel to Medal of Honor. Here's an update courtesy of Official Xbox Magazine:


You may have heard inklings of a new game on our next cover, but you're probably here for confirmation. Yes, we're here to confirm that EA is bringing Medal of Honor: Warfighter to the Xbox 360, and we've got the first details in our April issue!

We were given high-level access to one of the most highly-anticipated upcoming games, talking with major developers and war heroes alike to find out how EA will be mounting its biggest offensive strike yet via Medal of Honor: Warfighter. You'll be able to find this info first in the April issue of Official Xbox Magazine, due on store shelves on March 6 and coming to subscribers before then! I think Saviger was very much into the last Medal of Honor game. If I remember right, he said the multiplayer wound up getting better after a while.

The last one was good, but kinda half-baked. Sniping was waaaay too easy, and some little things should have been fixed before release. I may or may not pick it up, but probably won't pre-order it like I did the last one.

Reports on the OXM cover story are now finding their way to press, and they’re revealing more details about returning developer Danger Close Games’ latest plans for turning around the franchise.

The newest Medal of Honor game strives to show the human side of elite soldiers.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter sees the return of Medal of Honor’s Preacher and Mother, with the former at the heart of the story.

“When we begin our story there is sort of this crossroads that Preacher has come to that the relationship with his wife can go either way. She needs help raising their child and she is about to give up. But Preacher he is a fighter and he is going to do whatever it takes to repair that and fix that,” producer Greg Goodrich told GameHunters.

“It all comes to a head. That is sort of the crux of these two individuals and her understanding why he does what he does and who he is and truly why he is gone all the time because she now sees the evil in the world that he sees.

“Likewise, it becomes very real to him in the sense that the issues that they had and the things they argued about maybe weren’t as important as they thought they were at the time. It’s the kind of story you don’t normally get in a game about war.”

One of the dozens of Tier One operators brought in to consult on the game’s story, known only by the name Nate, said the 2010 reboot showed real world soldiers that the series could be respectful and entertaining.

“Through the growing pains of that last (game) and the amount of money they were able to raise [for the Navy SEAL Warrior Fund], it really opened up their eyes on how tastefully they were able to portray the men and really opened up the door,” he said.

The operator said the new story is capable of conveying “a better sense of the [Tier One] community and who these guys are” and also that “the story really touches people”.

“It is meant to be entertaining, and we hope people really enjoy that, but in the process there’s a lot of misconceptions that will be stripped and there’s a lot of clichés that will be destroyed. And there’s a lot of humor that will be injected. But at the end of it you hope people get a sense of wow this is not who I thought these guys were. They are very likeable, very approachable very family-oriented guys,” he said.

Warfighter is the first game in the series to depart from historical fiction in real world conflicts, instead spinning a story based on a topical military threat.

“It’s focused on the threat of PETN [pentaerythritol tetranitrate], a nasty, nasty explosive that we have all been faced with over the last few years whether you realize it or not,” Goodrich said.

“It’s a very real world threat that the guys are faced with keeping off our shores and out of our shopping malls and train stops. Every mission in the game has a dotted line to something that has been either inspired by actual events or has happened or is loosely based on something that has happened.”

Medal of Honor: Warfighter is due for full reveal at a press event outside GDC, and will release in October.

im really interested in this i hope as far as campaign goes its as good as the first just a little longer. for the multiplayer side i hope they tweak it because i played a little on the first one and mostly every one would grab a sniper rifle and sit on each side of the map and wait for you to pop out and bang off shots that way at you.

I played the first one and enjoyed it. It was a different more current take on everything. I thought it just released at the wrong time or else it could have done better. This one looks really legit!

Danger Close listened to MoH feedback, addressed “a lot of things,” with Warfighter

Danger Close’s Rich Farrelly has said the Metacritic rating for its last Medal of Honor outing wasn’t as high as the studio had hoped, but with Warfighter, has “listened to feedback over the years,” and plans to address “a lot of things.”

Speaking with Games On Net, the creative director said one of the first changes made was to bring multiplayer in-house.

“The Metacritic rating was a lot lower than what we would’ve liked,” he said. “I’m gonna save my comments on what I think about that site, but you know what? It was the best-selling Medal of Honor ever. It came up on 6 million units sold. No one ever mentions that. We’re really proud of that.

“I think there was a really high bar of expectation set for us, and maybe we didn’t meet certain aspects of that. The single-player campaign had its issues, but overall I think it stands on its own two feet – and we’ve definitely been listening to the feedback over the past few years, and we’ve been addressing a lot of things.”

Farrelly said the designers are also working hard in order to differentiate the game from other shooters, but “telling the soldier’s story from the soldier’s point of view,” which adds an extra emotional level to Warfighter.

“It gets more involved as you go along in the game,” he said. “We touched on it a bit in the last game, by concentrating on the brotherhood aspect of it and the emotional side of the conflict; the non-military side.

“This time around, it’s more about family. It’s more about these guys. You know, they’re deployed 300 days of the year. Some of them have wives and kids, and sometimes they can’t even tell their wife where they’re going. Their buzzer goes off, and they have to go. You can imagine the kind of stress that would put on a family; you can imagine what that would do to a marriage over time.

“We want to explore that path with the main character Preacher – how he deals with that and how that all resolves.”

Farrelly doesn’t think many other military shooters approach stories from that angle, but at it’s core, it’s still a “guy with a gun running around an environment shooting other guys with guns to get to the end.”

“There are some clever features thrown in there, and of course that all boils down to the quality of the experience of doing that, and we’re doing our very best to make that the best it can possibly be to compete with everyone else who does the same thing,” he said. “But for us, we step back from that.”

Warfighter released on October 23 in the US and October 26 in the UK on Origin, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

What is Medal of Honor: Warfighter's "Sport" mode all about?

The folks at EA are currently running a contest that will allow players to name the multiplayer challenge mode currently known as "Sport". According to the information on the official MOH:Warfigher Facebook page, the mode is intended to appeal to more competitive gameplay fans.


Mission Statement from Creative Director, Kristoffer Bergqvist

The mode dubbed “Sport” was one of the first game modes we started to prototype. The idea was to create an arena for the players who were searching for the most competitive type of gameplay—an arena that fit traditional clan structures well. We knew that we wanted a game mode that was as rewarding to play as it was exciting to watch. Quick rounds with no respawn abilities were established early, and getting the national flags to be a central part of gameplay was a given once we saw the overwhelming response to the Global Tier 1 concept.

The end result is an explosive game mode with the attacking team trying to force its way through narrow choke-points in hope of grabbing one of the two flags set on the defenders’ side, then bringing it back to the starting area. The majority of the combat happens at the beginning of the round while the attackers are fighting to cross the defensive lines. If the defenders fail and let the attack through, they’ll need to switch tactics when closing in on the attackers’ escape routes. Fail a second time and they’ll lose that round.

The attackers, on the other hand, need to focus on either slamming through one choke-point or splitting up the defending team using diversion tactics. Stick close to your Fire Team buddy and coordinate the attack to break through the defensive perimeters! Our vision is to create a tense, violent, and addictive game mode—one that makes its way onto the E-Sports scene and takes the Medal of Honor franchise to the next level of competitive warfare.

I hated, hate now, and always will hate MW2 with a passion. The game was highly imbalanced. I ran a 1.3 KD in MW1, 1.15 in BO, and 1.15 in MW3, yet my MW2 KD was 0.9. I never did well, and there's just something there that makes it suck epically.

Yeah looks sick. It appears to be using the Destruction technology of Frostbite, unlike the last one. I wish they had knife takedowns instead of the dumb tomahawk slashes. But overall looks great. It is a faster-paced game than Battlefield though. Speaking of which Rob, when you going to jump on BF3?

I checked his rank out of habit, and saw it was level 0 (yes, in Battlefield the ranks start at 0. Must have been written by a computer programmer. :redface: Get it? Oh never mind.:ohwell:) and jumped out. I watched the helicopter go up up up and then he crashed...tail first. Needless to say I did not regret my decision.

Yeah definitely doesn't work that way. Support guys are great (if they drop ammo and the like). I play a lot of assault (medic). Have you watched the Battlefield friends series? If not, you should. You'll know how NOT to play the game.

Second this on bf friends lol, I recommend using assault if you never played bf, heal and revive your teammates and you will get a shit ton of xp and rank up faster then focus on the other classes

Yes most people tend to start out mostly engineers, but for the most part, it's not a good thing. Definitely use assault. Or support. Ammo is always nice, but it doesn't give you as many points and it's not as in need as medic. But you have C4... :) :troll:

Me as well. I think it will be significantly better than MoH (2010), but I don't know if it will be better than Battlefield (granted, significantly different mechanics). If it weren't for Halo 4, I'd probably end up playing this too much...

Regardless of what system you get it for ... see if you can pre-order it through GovX.com and get the Active Duty/Veteran's version of the game. You have to provide the GovX some info to prove that you are a Veteran or Active Duty but it's easy as all get out.

Just go on the console, go to "Games->Demos" and there should be an ad screen for MoH. Select it and download (about 1.6GB). Then just start it up and play!

I found the platoon on Battlelog, but only by looking at your profile. It wouldn't come up in the search, either by putting in "US Military Gamers" or "USMG". When I was a the platoon page, there was no option to join anywhere.

The menus aren't really an issue, and I've got largely the opposite view. If/when the details provided get more fleshed out, it should be fine.

My problem is more the inconsistency and balance issues within the game. The guns don't seem to match up with their stats right, and one minute it takes two shots to kill someone, the next it takes a whole clip for the same guy. Plus it needs more tutorial type info.

A tutorial would be nice, but I didn't see too much imbalance. Granted, I only put about 3 hours in, and mainly used the default M4, but I felt pretty good about it. One or two of the weapons I used briefly kinda sucked, but that's what the beta is for- testing the balance.

That's odd, the e-mail that I got from GovX said that Military Unlock codes will be available 23 October and all you have to do is log on to GovX to get them.

I don't know where November came from.

Ok maybe I am taking them at their word a little bit too much ... just logged in to my GovX account to check to see if the codes were there and what ones were listed ... followed their instructions on how to get the codes and there is exactly nothing listed at all.

In fact my order is listed as received at warehouse.

Not sure what to make of this, however they have to know if this goes sideways we are not going to put ourselves thought this a second time.

One thing you have to take in to consideration....is that USPS generally isn't a real time tracker, unless you pay a shitload extra. I've had orders that tracked as "Order Received-At Warehouse" a day and a half after it had arrived.

I agree ... now to try to give them the benefit of the doubt the FB post did say that they were drop shipping directly from EA from a Chicago warehouse ... because of that, it may only show on GovX that it's "at the warehouse" ... however be that as it may ... I would have preferred a shipment that would get it in my hands on drop day, and I don't want this ambiguity as to where our codes are etc.

I'm not ready to get irritated by this yet, who knows it could be sitting in my mailbox right now... we shall see I guess.

Ok here is the thing ... did you log in to govX and go to your account, then to orders, then to details ... in the next screen at the bottom there is a bracket that has the unlock key in it. You can print a PDF of the key and instructions for all 3 platforms. It doesn't mention that there is a delay.

The email I got yesterday said codes would be live in the 23rd.

I wonder what is different between what you are getting and what I am getting ... I would think that there would be no difference ... in fact I would think because they chose the 360 for the beta that any delayed release would be on the PS3 side not on the 360 side.... I'm really confused by this.

Yep got my codes too. I bet it's EA's fault too, because support was very friendly and helpful when I called GovX to cancel and re-place my order a few weeks ago.

I think Spyder is on target here ... I don't blame GovX ... I think it has everything to do with a new relationship between EA and a vendor. I honestly think the worst part of this whole thing is not allowing GovX to actually distro the discs.

I will continue to support these types of things ... a actual Military edition that is only going to verified end users is still very cool... I'll just have to know going forward that it's going to be a wait beyond launch before I get to get into the mix.

Truth be told I'm trying to be Zen about waiting ... it aint easy.

Yep. Mine's in Atlanta. Are you tracking through USPS or UPS? Because I went through USPS first, and couldn't find it and then I looked closer on the order and it said UPS. Tracking was available there for mine.

Personally, even though it says the 29th on my shipping date as well, I kind of doubt it's going to take 5 days to get here from the shipping center 30 miles away. I expect it to be on my front porch by Friday at the latest...or 3-5 days after it shipped. Which coincidentally is the expected shipping time unless I drop an extra 20 bucks for air freight.
