Thinking of Dropping Cable

I'm looking at ways to save some money around the house. One of the things I'm really leaning towards is dropping our cable TV, but keeping the broadband service. From there, I would just stream over Hulu, Netflix, etc. There really aren't a lot of shows I need to see on the first run, aside from maybe sports. But those are usually broadcast "over the air", and I know I can pick those up with a decent HD antenna. We get CBS, NBC, FOX, and ABC broadcast in our area. Most of the other shows I watch show up on the internet within a few days of being broadcast, so I can't see where I'd miss a whole lot.

Does anyone else do this or have any thoughts?

Apologize stupid big fingers. I have cox Internet and their phone. Plus I have DirecTV which I recommend w the refer a friend program.. Save 10 dollars a month. Which ur basic can be as low as 19 bucks a month for two years.. :)

Except after the first year, it pretty much doubles. That's why I left DirecTV, and went to comcast again. Only reason I keep cable is that there are several shows I don't want to wait 1-2 years to stream, since Netflix sucks ass that way.

Don't need to worry about seeing shows that aren't on netflix. Simple Internet search and you can watch anything on the Internet. I just hook my computer up to the tv and I'm good to go. That's how I have watched the super bowl the past 2 years lol. Even shows like the Walking Dead I can find the day after it airs on the tv. Sometimes I can even get it same day.

The bad thing about Hulu and Netflix for me is I dont have Unlimited Up/Down load. The area I live in is a total Monopoly and we have only 1 cable company 1 phone company 1 garbage man etc.. The thing that pissed me off in the past with DirecTv and Dish Network is they wouldn't give us our local channels. I don't know if that has changed or not. Anyway, I pay a Lil less that $100 for Cable and Internet. The cable sucks but, I to have the woman deal that HAS to watch her shows.

I don't even watch T.V anymore and if I do I use it to help me take naps. No nap isn't a nap unless the t.v is on...hahaha. I'm chucking cable and keeping the internet service when I move to my new house

I moved to Directv... my cable was crap... problem is Directv goes out everytime there is a storm so I guess you have to weigh your options.

I have a Prime account, and it is nice. The streaming is ok, but not alot is offered that is new in way of tv series that is free. But in addition, to the movies and tv, you also get free 2day shipping, which is great for me. I order alot through amazon. For me, it was a win win. :rolleyes:

When I pointed this service out to my wife, the shipping was the first thing she mentioned. LOL. I just rolled my eyes. Still, that is a pretty good perk, especially around the holidays.

Welp, tomorrow is the day. We're cutting the cable TV channels, but keeping the internet. Time to invest in some decent antennas and maybe a wireless router upgrade.

we have dish and and it goes out when it storms too. If it was up to me I would do the same thing your doing...hulu is good for some of it.Netflix now sucks balls...and amazon on demand sounds good. Wish I could change it here but not my choice...so im stuck with dish

Amazon prime doesn't have a lot of kids shows, I use Netflix for that. we have directv, for football and other stuff. But if we can get it off the ps3 or Xbox we will leave satellite.

We just have internet. You can find anything online nowadays. Also we use Netflix a lot.

So far so good. I got home from work tonight and nobody seems to be missing it.

I'm definitely going to have to invest in a good antenna though. I can get CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox, and CW if I had a decent one.
