The guy is from a unit on lewis
Supposedly he had brain trauma from an injury in Iraq. Which goes to show why more research and assessment needs to be implemented on the effects of brain trauma and other factors on the psyche of soldiers and methods for diagnosing and treating such issues. I was also reading that the military has been overturning PTSD diagnoses to avoid discharging troops with lifetime retirement pay.
Which, if true (and I haven't done nearly enough research to say with any authority that it is), that is absolutely unacceptable.
The other hard truth is that this is just the byproduct of what it takes to condition a soldier to kill. Dehumanizing the enemy has been an aspect of war as far back as history goes. It is sad and despicable, but I'm not sure (short of world peace) how one prevents such atrocities while also training an effective fighting force.

I was listening to the radio, and heard how the Taliban has apparently sworn to start beheading Americans over this. As opposed to the 9 years previously when they were murdering and beheading Americans just because they were American. Again, doesn't condone what happened, but the hypocracy is pretty rich.

I agree... Although I don't condone the killing of civilian women and children... the announcement today that they would start "beheading Americans" just shows where thier priorities are at... This administration has yet to comment on this...
