Today is Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day. If you know a Vietnam vet...and I'm sure most of us do...be sure to thank them for their sacrifice.
The U.S. Senate adopted a resolution about a year go declaring March 30 as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day. It was on March 30, 1973, that U.S. combat troops withdrew from South Vietnam. Saigon fell to the North Vietnamese in April 1975.
The Vietnam War, in which the United States helped defend South Vietnam against a growing communist threat from North Vietnam, claimed more than 58,000 Americans. Another 300,000 U.S. Armed Forces were injured.
