I am currently taking a free CompTIA A+ class and was was wondering if any of you took that exam and found the certification useful? Recently started the class and so far I knew almost everything but I am sure I will learn a lot more as we progress...just not sure if I want to shell out the money to get certified after.

Is this class online? I've been thinking of pursuing certifications for some time.

I studied and passed it on my own a couple years ago.... Didn't get much out of it though sorry.

Really you just order the book online and then sign up at a test location near you for the exams. The class I am taking is just someone in the IT buisness giving back to a local church by teaching this class to expand on what the book has. A friend who attends that church wanted to take it and convinced me that I am not doing anything so I might as well go with her lol.

I've been a Network Engineer for 22 years now so I'm gonna be blunt. A+ is good for getting an interview for a level 1 help desk tech, unless you have experience to back up the cert. This can be said of any cert really.

I would recommend S+ or N+ if you're just entering the career. If you have experience then focus on Security, Cisco/Juniper networking, VoIP or Forensics for a career that will last.

Just my .02 though.

Yup, all it will really get you is a low level help desk job. You will be better off with N+ or S+. Also look into the windows7 desktop certs. They are a good starting point to work your way into the server certs.
