I know I'm new here and not even technically a member yet but I hope to be official soon, I'm looking to start a new non profit project soon called the Make a Sound project. I see that you all have a donation spot here and I see that its not exactly doing well and its only a goal of $600, which I will contribute to once I'm a member, anyway, this project is a big deal to me. I was a touring musician before I joined the Army and my heart was all about talking to these kids who had a rough life at home, got picked on in school or just dealt with rough times for whatever the reason.
I loved being able to talk to kids and show them there are people there who will listen and that do care and essentially what I'm doing is raising money to help bands out that have great attitudes and are about the impact rather than making it in the industry. Not only helping bands but helping local venues, schools with no music program and even trying to offer scholarships.
Not only is this happening but we're also going to offer an Impact award. An impact award can be won by anyone from a young child to a senior citizen. Just someone that has an amazing heart and loves to make an impact in their community. I say all of this for two reasons. One, maybe you or one of your family members go above and beyond and you, or your family think they deserve some recognition, you could hit us up and see if you win something, and two, if any of you are older you could have your high schoolers hit us up and they could possibly win a scholarship as well.
It would be great to get financial support but really just a "like" or even just spreading the word could help out immensely. This project isnt starting until May 1st so this is kind of just a heads up and kind of get a feel to see if anyone is even interested in helping out! Below I'll attach something that I made up for the program and when the time comes I'll put out more info for anyone interested!
"Every age yearns for a more beautiful world. The deeper the desperation and the depression about the confusing present, the more intense that yearning" -Johan Huizinga
Make a sound was born in desperation. The thought that one sound, that one glance, that one hand can make all the difference in the world. I've looked into the eyes of the desperate. I've listened to the sound of hearts shattering. I've felt the pain and loneliness of youth just begging to be seen. All because of a chance, just to prove I could.
Make a sound is dedicated to fueling hope all over America. It's dedicated to reaching those in need through people who are making an impact in their community. We want to see bands making a difference stay on the road. We want to see venues stay open who are more concerned with the message than the profit. We want to see schools develop a music program to show students who have never had the chance how you can save a heart with the right melody and message. We want to see music majors get scholarships to write the next lyrics that bring beauty from ashes.
But we are nothing without you.
At Make a Sound we're looking for those who will stand up and join our campaign to not only change lives all over America but to save lives as well. Too many times have I encountered a youth at a show who can't stand life anymore because of being picked on at school, because they can't live up to the perfect expectation drawn up by their parents, because they are too wrapped up in drugs and they don't want to hurt their family anymore.
There is always hope, there is always love. All they need, is for YOU to make a sound.
