Any Toyota owners?

we are in the process of turning in our trucks for new ones.. we had 3 F-150's .. beds are way larger then the hilux's that they offer out here in Kandahar.. we need the big beds so we can put a complete VSAT suite in one.. but they wanna trade two in for Toyota's(gov trying to save a buck over the mission).. nice suprise my trucks was the first one.. and they gave us instead of a hilux.. i got a Tacoma.. been riding around post for a few days and i gotta say .. i like it.. always been a ford/dodge man.. buy American as much as i can!!.. from what i gather a tacoma is a mid size truck and is just the American version of a hilux.. but its still very nice.. 2011 4x4 ext cab.. anyone else own a toyota? what are your thoughts? whats the typical gas mileage you get back stateside?

This doesn't answer any of your questions, but I like the Tacoma too. I don't own a truck, but if I did, it would be a tacoma.

Oh and have you ever seen the Top Gear (UK) where they tried to destroy a hilux? They did just about everything to it, but they could still gt it to run. lol

I'm a Ford truck guy as well, but yeah, Tacoma's are a good rig.

yeah i was grown up in fords my whole life and have owned several plus my dodge truck which i love to death (last 360 they produced) but ive been really impressed with how this thing drives.. i hear the tundra is even nicer as a full size truck

You can't argue their reliability, they are good in that dept. Tacoma's are good, Tundra's are iffy. My father has been an autobody man for 40+yrs. When I was looking for a new truck, he said to stay away from the Tundra. He said the power of the big V8 is awesome, but the frame is crap. He said toyota did not do well when building the frame for strength for what the tow/haul ratings are. He said for a full size truck that is getting used heavy, stick with the american made, as they have been doing it the longest, and have solid foundations to work from.

As far as cab space, I'd rather have the big American P/U trucks...Now the Tundra looks quite big, not sure about the cab space in it though.

yeah the tundra i have fits four but the two in the ext cab portion are fold down seats... its kinda feels like driving a car when your in the inside but having a pick up bed once you get out sode the vechicle.. very differnt than what im used to.. my nice big hemi dodge back at the house and the the full size crew cab f -150 i had before this one... i must be going through size shock.. lol maybe thats why i wanted a car before i go home?? my charger waits for me back at the house!!hahaha!:party:
