So, I have a friend who is looking at a deployment to Afghanistan. He is trying to figure out the best digital camera to take out there. I thought that maybe you guys might have some insight as to which cameras break out there easily and which ones can withstand getting blown up by an IED. Let me know what your suggestions are and I wil pass them on to him.

Well I don't know if many cameras will withstand an IED... The camera I brought out to Iraq was just a older style sony cybershot before they made them all skinny. Worked great and never missed a beat, until now years later after it was sitting in my trunk for a year or so. :o Granted I wasn't in any serious combat just got mortared a lot. It did see it's fair share of the sand, banged around in the humvee. There are so many cameras out there to choose from. When I first picked that one out I wanted one that was battery powered since I didn't know if I would have a lot of access to a power supply. Turns out I did so he might want to get a rechargeable one depending on his mission I guess.

The combat camera unit here at Cherry Point only uses Sony equipment, if that helps.
