Xbox 360 For $99 Coming -- Includes Kinect And Two-Year Subscription To Xbox Live
Posted 3 hours 40 mins ago - By Stephen Johnson
According to The Verge, Microsoft is planning to launch a Xbox 360 console package, with Kinect, for only $99. The price of the console will be "subsidized" with a locked in, monthly two-year, $15 subscription to Xbox Live. The cheap console could launch as early as next week, according to Verge's unnamed sources.
According to The Verge, the two-year, $15-a-month subscription will include a warranty, and provide access to Xbox Live Gold and perhaps some additional streaming content from cable providers or sports package providers. You'll be able to pick up the bundle at a Microsoft store, should there be one near you.
eportedly, Microsoft will charge an early termination fee for those who break their contract.
While a $100 Xbox seems like an amazing deal, over-time, the savings will amount to $39 when compared to purchasing a 4GB 360 and paying a cheaper subscription fee for basic Gold membership. The new bundle will cose you $420 in two years, where a "traditional" 360 will set you back $459.

This might have been cool for bringing overseas or something, even red ring of death victims would get something out of this. Just don't see it being that popular.

To little to late I think... Microsofts last ditch effort to surge console sales
SPARTAAAAAAAAAA!
Sorry, I already have a contract with my cell phone... I don't need one for my gaming console.

Honestly dont' think so. I think it's a stop-gap to provide a purchase option between now and 2013 or 14 when "Durango" drops. We all know xbox live isn't going anywhere, so even if you get a mandatory subscription, it'll still be used on the next x-box. Which means if you want to upgrade now, there's a viable option. Or if you want to get a second one with a Kinect. Or even if you're a first timer who wants to save a couple of bucks.
If you use it the full two years, you basically get a third year of Live for free. I'm not seeing the rip-off.
okay, lets do the math on this..
$99(4gb model w/Kinect) + $15/month for 2 years ((15*12)*2) = 360 + 99 = $459 total over 2 years
or
$287.70 (4gb w/Kinect on Amazon (http://amzn.com/B003O6EE4U)) no Live Subscription
or
$394.99 (250gb w/Kinect on Amazon (http://amzn.com/B005VBVRGY)) includes 3 months free Live Subscription
So assuming you may not install more then maybe 3 or 4 games, the subscription model might be a good deal, or if you plan to just buy a HD and replace the 4gb.. regardless, its cheaper to get a stand alone system, and not be tied into any contract.

Yeah I don't see this taking off. Like you show, you'll save about $60 just buying new from Amazon (1 yr subscriptions run $48)

I agree, BUT most people don't look to break down what the annual cost for the year or two would be. All they see is that the cost per month is 15 dollars (which to them isn't a lot of money) and the price of the console (being 99 dollars) being so cheap. To them its a steal but in the long run its a RIP OFF!
I agree. and my quick look at the Live subscriptions, $15/monthly, is triple the price of the gold subscription.. (They say it includes a warrently, but correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't the console come with a warrenty anyway?)

Yeah, a 1-yr one. So you're paying basically the extra price for a second year of warranty. It could be worth it if you're super worried, but not to me.

Yeah dude...it was great! Tingly feeling all over.:D No, the house got struck...fried a computer, xbox, my monitor, security system, stereo, and a few other things. Microsoft fixed the Xbox though - I never told them it was struck by lightning and it was still under warranty.
