View Full Version : [PC] Training Courses
Just wanted to get some idea of how people would feel about being taught the different aspects (at a most basic level) of EVE. I'm not sure how we would be able to organize these as of yet, but I do believe that it would be good to have a basic understanding of EVE so that our industrial pilots will understand combat and our combat will understand industrial pilots. Some might say this suggestion would be lame or a waste of time, I believe it would make for better cohesion in the corp as of a better understanding of what the different pilots do and how each would be able to support each other and provide a little assistance possibly. Also this would help Pilots be less reliant in a "What should I train for?" type of way and instead be able to apply that to "What can I do that would help better the corp?" If we can instruct and create an understanding of the vast universe of EVE I believe our pilots would be more able to grow and become better pilots themselves. Just wanted to see how you guys would feel about this

I actually agree with this. With our coalition/alliance with Flaming Dagger, we need to start diversing ourselves from just miners to jack of all trades. Granted with the jack of all trades aspect of EVE ur not focusing on one set of skills but a variety. Take this example, we are in a fleet for pvp and run into a good sized enemy fleet and they have a few frigates with them. Our BSs can't hit them, joe just trained in crusiers and he's a miner. Joe jumps into said crusier and joins the fleet to take care of the frigs.
So I agree we need a training program. It would help the corp and give the guys the ability to diversify themselves. So this brings up the point of having a corp meeting. So we can dicuss how to implement this into our corp.
I can see the Jack of all trades approach becoming cumbersome to the corp, while this would work I was thinking that maybe just some type of informational while being able to help new people to certain areas it may also help to show where production would be able to help our combat and or mission runners. Also I believe that mission runners would also benefit from understanding how the industrial side of the game works, not only valuing our mining/production divisions but also knowing what loot could be used by them and figuring out a fair market value for the products. Also teaching combat pilots about Meta levels and how to know what ships are used for what and which ship would work better with what kind of tanking and what kind of missiles or charges or weapons for that matter are best for their race and particular ships.

I also agree with this idea. Eve has so many aspects of game play that many may not know in which direction to go or what options are available. This definitely sets this game apart from the more linear cookie cutter mmo's out there.
I think the first question that needs to be asked is, "What are the future objectives of our corps?" (POS? WH-Space? Null Sec? Low Sec? High Sec? Mission Running? Mining OPs? etc...)
PVE and PVP intertwine at some point depending on what we are doing and where we are doing it.
This link http://swiftandbitter.com/eve/wtd/ is a "What to do in EVE Online" chart which is a good reference of ideas to pilots new and old.

To answer ur question, our main goal is to setup a POS and base of Operations in Low Sec. Once we get setup in low sec we will begin ops in low sec until we get comfortable then we will try to move out to null sec. But as of right now we are setting up more mining ops and lvl 4 ops.

I def agree w that. I'm more than an orca or miner. I skilled up through bs so what ever mission or op we run I can flip to. My biggest thing I notice is people forget to focus on their turrets specialization.

I agree with the training, my only issue is how are we going to ensure that everyone will have the ability to fit a Megathron for PVP, as well as an Orca for mining ops (LOOSE EXAMPLES) I just think we should churn this around a little and come up with a solid plan. Other than that I am in full support.

Since we're reorganizing, I was wondering if we might want to have a training corp.

Set up a training schedule on Evemon or Evehq, and request people train those skills?

You'd have to have a number of them. A toon that's never going to be a hauler has no use for Industrial V, for instance, but anybody who wants to be able to drive a freighter has to have it.
Shield tankers and armor tankers have diverging skillsets, as well.
Etc.

Exactly. Specific skill queue's targeted towards specific ship/fit sets. All of which would be set for specific tasks within different divisions.
For that matter, even if you plan on being a permanent miner/industrialist, the ten days or so it'll take you to train a tackler for PvP assistance isn't going to break you. Likewise to train up to a cruiser level mining rig for combat focused players.

First question is what do you want to do? Mining/Combat/Industrial/Industrial/Distribution......pick a path you want to take. From there, setting up a training schedule to cover where you want to go is relatively easy. I'd suggest EveMon or EveHQ as downloads to get, though. They make it pretty damn easy.

Check the resources thread, I linked a couple of ios options I found through my google-fu.
Does our Corp lean towards a specific field already? i.e. Mining, Combat, Piracy etc.? When I made my character I chose the Ancestry and Education that geared him towards an Engineering application. Just wondering if there's like a bunch like this or not.

Nope, it's relatively open, and we're setting it up so that you can fit in regardless of what you choose to go with. There will be divisions that support all gameplay types, which will fit within the corp as a whole.

What Dave said is true, our corp is well rounded and we are not leaning towards one specific trade, if i must say we are more towards Indy than anything else but we have so many guys that are different areas of the game we are a well round corp. So u will fit in perfectly.
Ok cool, how do I apply? I can't seem to find us in the Corp menus...

Go to ur people and places menu and select Corporation, then type in United States MIlitary Gamers Corp and we should pop up that way. U will need to be docked in station and when u have our corp page up select the Apply to Join on the bottom of the page.

I'm petty sure this doesn't pertain to training but during the tutorial it talked about your skills and having a 24 hour max. If you end up selecting 3 skills and it overlaps that 24 hrs to let's say 1d 8hr will it carry over?

Yes. The last skill in your queue has to begin within 24 hours.
Later on you'll have skill levels that take days or weeks to train.

Yes, like Zulu said. As long as your last skill starts within the 24 hours, you're good to have it wrap over. You can have a 10 day + queue, and be fine.

Or bring friends to help.
There is actually a level 1 storyline mission that was supposed to be specifically designed for you to bring in friends to help on a couple of the missions. It can be done solo (I did), but not by a 1-week noob w/ no ISK and limited skills. Actually, once you finish the basic tutorial missions and move to our corp system, I recommend you do the SoE epic storyline. Just make sure you have a couple of us on standby for when you get to the missions that your new character will need help with. (Or you can get other noobs that are working the arc to help with it, but you'll have to run the mission multiple times, once for each participant.)
This. Shit. Right. Here. Is the best game I've ever played.
I trained up to pilot a Destroyer class ship, fitted it with 4 125mm rail guns, set my orbit to 20km and sat back and picked all those bastards off. The support ships got in close on me, but I had a spare Rocket Launcher with Nova Rockets for that ass.
All this wouldn't have been possible were it not for my generous benefactor! Thanks man!

Yes, I just reference all of the material that's published on the site. I considered actually joining the corp for awhile before I encountered USMG, but never did. Read through some of the restrictions they place on their members before you jump corp. And be aware that they get wardecced quite a bit from people just wanting to be asses and get free pot-shots at noobs.
Also, when I looked at their calendar, most of the scheduled "classes" I was interested in were scheduled at times that just weren't feasible for me. Most, if not all, of the lesson plans are posted on the site with enough detail to get the main points of the lessons. And they have a ton of good reference material on the site that's available to anyone, not just members.
The biggest advantage that you might get, IMHO, is that they've recently implemented a ship replacement program. As long as you're following the rules and engaged in a UNI op/class, they'll replace any T1 frigate & mods you lose in a skirmish. Hopefully, though, USMG will soon have the kind of bank that it takes to support that sort of thing for our members.
