Ranger School considering going Co-ed!?

Im not sure if anyone else seen the news article http://www.military.com/news/article/ranger-school-considers-going-co-ed.html Take a look at it. I would like to hear how everyone else feels about women going to Ranger School.
Im getting ready to be med boarded out of the Army. For the past 8 years I have seen the Army standards go to shit. I am glad I'll be getting out. So, I dont have an issue with women getting their Ranger Tabs :cool:

Meh. It's getting pretty hard to defend the Army's practices and standards lately. I don't think women should be Infantry or Rangers. Not that they can't do it, but because they'll be distracting to the other soldiers, and that WILL cost lives.

I agree with Finch... you can go to any deployed base, I haven't been outside to the small FOBS but at JBB and BAF women were followed by posse's everywhere they went. Of course we were all distracted... hard to focus on the job.

I agree, I do not think think the Ranger school should go Co-ed.

My first reasoning is not distraction, but lower expectations. Its a proven fact that women typically do not poses the strengths that men do. So they would be sacrificing quality in my opinion. Not only would they be sacrificing quality in just the women but I believe the men would suffer short falls in training as well.... for example, are you going to remember how to start a fire over that "HOT BABE" when she was crawling through the mud with her assault rifle and the top button of her uniform undone so you could see her secret weapons of choice? I sure the hell would not! So I disagree with it, because if the military does let women join ranger school, either they are going to lower standards or they are going to split the standard so that women can complete the school, much like the military AFPT.

:gossip:The other reason I disagree with it is GOSSIP/DRAMA! Sorry girls, but where ever you are drama follows. Now in Ranger school Guys will have girlfriend/Wives in school with a bunch of dudes......that spells a fight to me, yet another distraction.

At this time when I see someone with the Ranger Tab..it means something to me. I believe that once women are wearing these tabs, the meaning of being a Ranger will get tossed in the shit can.

I sit one the fence as with corpsman I serve side by side . If the can do by all means do it just don't decrease standards and ruin the sanctity of amazing forces by changing standards that have been in place for years. I understand people can't do all things equal that's why there are standards so we get the best of the best for jobs ! So should be cool maybe modern day GI Jane? I see plenty of woman who are crazy strong etc and more ripped than most guys lol

Yeah, the distraction I would think would be too much. Any Elite group needs to have as few distractions as possible (even though I'm sure they're able to put up with more in general, women are a totally different type of distraction). Train how you fight and in a fight I wouldn't want a woman with me, only because I'd be worried about the other guys distracted with her and not focused on their duties and getting us all killed.

Just seems that standards have fallen (no offense to anyone)...When I went to Sapper school, there was no tab, there was however a psychologist just in case they broke your ass during P.O.W. phase. Now (to my dismay) I saw a show about Sapper School on the tube and things have changed....First, there was a female, ( no offense but that shit was unheard of in my day) second, all the patrols had been shortened, third, only P.O.W. -ish anything that I saw was an assault on the old P.O.W. camp. overall length of the school is shorter by a week or so. So the school is easier now and you get a tab! (tab is retro active to O.G. Sappers so I'll rock mine here!)......Just sayin'

Morgantown Woman Shatters Army Gender Barrier

A Morgantown woman has made military history.

Cicley Verstein, 21, is the first woman to ever enlist in an army combat support job. Her new commander administered an oath of enlistment Tuesday afternoon at JKF Park in Star City.

Verstein enlisted after college as a Bradley tank mechanic, one of six positions opened to women in May.

Verstein had no idea at the time that she would make history by choosing to follow her interests in mechanics.

"Don't be afraid to go after what you want," Verstein said as a message to other women. "I mean, I've always been interested in motors and stuff and everything and so I'm just doing what I want to do and I don't care if any guy tells me I can't do it, because I know I can."

The six Army specialties that women can now enlist for are:

Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Crewmember, 13M

MLRS Operations Fire Detection Specialist, 13P

Field Artillery Firefinder Radar Operator, 13R

M1 Abrams Tank System Maintainer, 91A

Bradley Fighting Vehicle System Maintainer, 91M (Verstein's specialty)

Artillery Mechanic, 91P

Verstein's next step is basic training this fall at Fort Jackson.

I think they should try pre-ranger first before even think of going to it. It a lot harder then they think it is.

This is one topic the Marine Corps got right!! No women in the infantry, period... I do respect all women who join the military to serve their country 100%, but I agree it would be a distraction. Keeping a high standard is difficult even with all men, so imagine adding women to the mix. Standards would drop without a doubt, just from the pure politics of the whole idea!! Just my opinion..

This will never work and the brass at D.A. knows it. First of all "elite" troops tend to be more highly motivated by virtue of the belief that they are "elite". To add women to the ranks would deal an irreparable blow to the morale and Esprit de Corps of All Rangers everywhere, whether in Battalion or not. Just political bs....won't happen. Most of the brass at D.A. are tabbed out Infantry Officers, they will ultimately protect their club, I have no fear.

The USMC is doing the same, chicks will be able to attend IOC (infantry officers course) and the rest of the combat arms course. They will be assigned to everything but 0300 MOSs and units. This will be a test to see i it works...ugh...WtF over?

Not a Single chick has ever completed the 15km hump at officer TBS....not 1....and how pretell are they suppose to pass IOC?

A little bit of everying covered:

I chatted about this with a friend of mine who has earned the tab. He doesn't agree with it and neither do I. He still has connections and was told that "x" number of female candidates would complete the course. We'll just have to wait and see. I'm not saying it can't happen but... we all know what it entails. One of my CO's broken his leg right around the last week of the course. There was no gimme. He went back the following year and did the whole course over again.

Spent some time with a German Mech Unit NCO Class. They had a female SGT going throught the training. I must admit she did all the training. I never did witness any special treatment and was honestly impressed.


Right after my retirement my old unit got a 91A (M1 Tank System Maintainer). Honestly, I'm not a big fan of females in combat units. Opens another can of worms.
