View Full Version : Coolest most down to earth celebs that you ever met through the USO

We've all most likely met celebrities through the USO, be it here or at a FOB. Who surprised you the most? For me it was Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman Reedus, AKA The Boondock Saints. They just wanted to hang out and hear war stories from the troops and sign autographs and take pictures. And they actually enjoyed themselves. They didn't act all self important like some of the ones who do USO stints as publicity stunts. So anyway, who did you guys like best?

Robin Williams and the redskins cheerleaders...i was the escort NCOIC and me and one of the chicks hit it off after a 3 hour shack up during some shelling and ended up makin' out with her and getting a couple of topless polaroids sent to me...too bad I was in the States by the time they caught up to me...

Can honestly say I've never run in to anyone on a USO stint who was a self-righteous ass. Toby Keith was pretty awesome, though. So was the Governator.

I met Ozzy Osbourne at his book signing. He was cool. Nothing to do with USO sorry.
Billy Shehan and Eric Martin from Mr Big were the coolest I have met though, they hung around after the
show for a long time signing stuff and chatting.

I never got to see a USO show or any celebs...never had a DFAC either...I was always out on a COP where NO-ONE ever wanted to go....sucks for me...we did have an awesome jack shack though!!! And sometimes Iraqi TV....I used to do "Friday Night Fuck Flicks" on the One-eye for the company...that was pretty cool.....we did themes too....most of the time when not on COPSEC, QRF, or Patrols we just did this...... :playball:

During their "Other Side" tour, I met Sawyer Brown. They were a cool group of guys. The drummer stayed around until everyone basically was done talking...he never once looked at the clock or tried to leave. The lead singer was pretty awesome as well, but the manager pulled him to some radio interview he had to do (not his fault). The only guy who was a douche was their guitar player. He stormed past us and out. I found out they have since fired him from the band. Sorry I refer to them as instrument....but I am horrible with names of band members.

I have also met some race car drivers. Jeff Gordon (NASCAR) and Vito Meira (Indy) were both super cool. Robby Gordon was alright and nice enough, but tended to have the "I am here for publicity" attitude.

Coolest cats I have met was Godsmack. Not USO related but Sully Erna was a badass and I talked Texas Hold Em' with him for awhile haha. The Redskin cheerleaders came to BAF while were there. Got to shake hands with Obama.... (very feminine handshake) and partied it up with Filter during my tour in Iraq.

SPARTAAAAAAAAAA!

Not USO, but I met Elizabeth Taylor on Wake Island coming back from Team Spirit in 1988. She was nice and very short. :) A picture of me and some others from my squadron talking to ber was in a book about Malcolm Forbes life. She was dating him at the time. I've also met director Cameron Crowe during the filming of Elizabethtown. He was incredibly nice and wish me luck on filming my first movie.

When I got out of the service, I worked for Virgin Atlantic Airline doing security. Met a lot of celebs at JFK. By the coolest was Samuel L Jackson. We helped him get from the street to our 1st class lounge. Once there he drop a "C" note in one of the guys shirt pocket and said, go buy some beers for the boys. Not only a bad mofo in movies. He's one of the nicest celebs you'll ever meet.

Yea Geraldo was attached to my Mortar platoon for awhile. Shadowed us on a Search & Retrieval Op. Total dick. He started conducting nightly reports with enough spotlights you coulda seen him from space, INSIDE OUR AO! After that my BC kicked him the fuck out. Don't know how long he stayed in country after that incident.

I had a pint with Alan Moore once...he was talking about earth magic and reality and stuff. All I could do was nod and agree.
I met Matt Heafy and Paulo from Trivium in a record store I go to, Matt is a dick but Paulo is a nice bloke. Blackie Lawless from WASP.
Monster tall and I could have fit in his pocket. I have also met an Oscar winner and an Oscar nominated actor.
My sisters met Bono and thought he was lovely. Colin Farrell is a good laugh to be around, I met him at a photography exhibition once.

A mate once met Bob Dylan and said he was a total douche.

My wife and I used to co-host a NASCAR radio talk show on the local sports radio show here in OKC. We met several drivers during our five year stint. Most of the drivers were pretty cool including Jeff Gordon. Robby Gordon is an ass. We used to regularly make fun of him on our show with an audio clip of him crashing at Texas Motor Speedway. BTW, Robbie Knievel is cool too, but crazy as shit. :) Had dinner and drinks with him once.

for me it was Drew Brees and Dennis Miller. Met them both in Guantanamo Bay. Drew Brees was wondering how much crap we had to deal with from the detainees and wondered how come we get so much flak from the media. Dennis Miller is probably one of the most straight forward pro military comedians I have ever seen.
