Google and Memorial Day??

WTF? Google does all these cool crazy things for people and holidays, but for Memorial Day they put a tiny flag and ribbon at the bottom, not linked either? Does anyone else think this is f'd up?:mad:

I tend to believe that whatever 95% of what most civilians do is either think that holidays are for partying or stupid ass sales at stores. Some are genuine in their support but will never understand the sacrifice. I can see why it would bother you but if they don't support us year round they are going to fall short on memorial/veteran's day. Similar to only taking the wife out on date on Valentine's day only and expecting some action all year.

This. Some appreciate the military and show it. Many people appreciate us but never show it. Many more do not know how much they appreciate us and will never know until they don't have us.

Sorry....I know this is a serious post, but that is too funny.

I think you will find many of those in Silicone Valley are somewhat confused as to what the Military really is and what it represents. Many think it represents a political pawn for a certain political party. I find myself VERY frustrated with the people who are in that area and subscribe to those beliefs. This isn't an assault on everyone from there....

A reason could be because Google is used everywhere in the world. Yea, its an American corp. but the home page is used by many countries. I know each country has their own country .com (example: Germany would be .de) but the actual home page is used by everyone.

All in all its a tough question to go about. There is so much to concentrate on for Memorial day links, it would be critical (judgmental) to figure out who (Army, Navy, Marines, or Air force) to link with a banner on the front page to search to. I'm sure there could be a particular home page to a government site (dia, fbi, or dod) that dedicates its site to Memorial day but that would be to much for the government to do. Lets be honest, the military is lazy when it comes to doing stuff like that on websites. Especially if they where to do it on a government website. Anyway, to show any tribute to soldiers is good enough. Yea, they could have put fireworks or actual pictures of soldiers or the military branches on the home page but that would take away the concept of the home page. Which is a plain (dull) home page that says Google.

I don't think it is because google is used globally. Not every country celebrates easter, christmas, 4th of july, but yet google changes their page for that? I just thought is was crappy that they put a tiny flag and ribbon at the bottom of the page, barely big enough to see?

Yea that sucks but not all people like the military and those that don't, don't want to see it all over what they use. Sad but true
