Did GameTrailers TV inadvertently tip LucasArts hand regarding a new Star Wars title?

‘Star Wars 1313′ and ‘Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2′ Accidentally Revealed
May 31, 2012 by Anthony Taormina

In preparation for their big pre-E3 episode tonight, GameTrailers TV has just blown the lid off several titles that were originally supposed to be revealed during the show. While many of the trailers featured during the episode, like the Tomb Raider ‘Crossroads’ trailer and a closer look at Bethesda and Arkane Studios’ Dishonored, were already known the big reveals come in the form of Star Wars 1313 and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.

Seemingly out of nowhere it was revealed that LucasArts was working on a new game based in the Star Wars universe, but beyond that details were slim. Some figured it might be the long awaited next entry in the Star Wars Battlefront franchise while others were hoping it would be an entirely new IP.

Turns out it was a little bit of both. Star Wars 1313, if previous rumors are to be believed, will be a game focused around the bounty hunter Boba Fett. Several pieces of information, including a domain registration, suggested that LucasArts was working on something related to Boba Fett, but this all but confirms it.

It’s a bit strange to think that it has taken this long for a true Boba Fett vehicle to release, but perhaps Lucas Arts was waiting for the right time. Based on Fett’s style of combat it seems likely that the game will be a variation on the third person shooter genre with Halo-esque jetpack mechanics thrown in.

LucasArts Drops Gamers into the Criminal Underworld with New Mature Themed Videogame Franchise, Star Wars 1313™

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif - May 31, 2012 - LucasArts, a Lucasfilm Ltd. company, announced today a new internally developed videogame franchise, Star Wars 1313™. The game will make its formal debut at the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles June 5-7. As players take control of a lethal bounty hunter in a never-before-seen dark and mature world, Star Wars 1313 introduces an integrated development approach by bringing together great artists across the Lucasfilm organization, including LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm Animation Ltd. and Skywalker Sound. A third person cinematic action adventure game, Star Wars 1313 will bring to life the Coruscant underworld, the most dangerous place in the Star Wars™ galaxy.

Named for Level 1313, a ruthless criminal underground deep below the surface of the planet of Coruscant, the game puts players in control of a deadly bounty hunter as he uses an arsenal of exotic weaponry to hunt down his marks and uncover the truth surrounding a criminal conspiracy. Star Wars 1313 emphasizes epic set pieces and fast-paced combat with a hero who uses human skills and gadgets, rather than supernatural Force powers, to make his way through this dangerous world.

"We're excited to share one of the projects LucasArts has been hard at work developing," said Paul Meegan, President, LucasArts. "Star Wars 1313 dives into a part of the Star Wars mythos that we've always known existed, but never had a chance to visit. We are committed to bringing the best gameplay experience and visual fidelity to life and I truly believe the work we are showcasing at E3 will speak for itself."

More details about Star Wars 1313 will surface in the coming months. Visit www.StarWars1313.com (http://www.StarWars1313.com) for the latest updates.

Gritty new ‘Star Wars 1313′ has fans buzzing
By Chris Morris | Plugged In – 19 hours ago

LucasArts is turning to the Dark Side for its next Star Wars game.

Not the Dark Side of the Force, mind you. It's done that several times already. Nope, this time the publisher is hoping to explore a darker, more mature side of the sci-fi universe in a new game called Star Wars 1313.

The third-person action romp is set on "Level 1313, a ruthless criminal underground deep below the surface of the planet of Coruscant," according to the company. Players will assume the role of a bounty hunter taking down targets and searching for the truth behind a criminal conspiracy.

Could that bounty hunter be fan fave Boba Fett? LucasArts isn't saying, though the company will further showcase the game next week at E3, announcing things like platforms and a release window. Gamers previously played as Boba's dear old dad Jango Fett in the 2002 action game Star Wars: Bounty Hunter.

Also in question is the target age rating. With its universal appeal, Star Wars titles typically enjoy an 'E' (for everyone) or 'Teen' rating. Star Wars 1313, however, may well net a 'Mature' rating, which would be a first for the Star Wars game universe.

But wait, a Star Wars game without light sabers and force pushes? That might sound shocking to today's legions of wannabe-Jedi knights, but a blaster-based game that presumably has some stealth elements could help energize fans. And, as the enduring love of "The Empire Strikes Back" shows, the Star Wars faithful really love it when the universe takes a dark turn.

They're certainly interested in this one. 'SW1313' became a top trending topic overnight on both Twitter and right here at Yahoo!, proving there's still quite an appetite for cool Star Wars fiction.

"Star Wars 1313 dives into a part of the Star Wars mythos that we've always known existed, but never had a chance to visit," said LucasArts president Paul Meegan.

Lucas is throwing its full weight behind the game, relying on input from its various tech divisions, including LucasArts, ILM, Lucasfilm Animation, and Skywalker Sound. Clearly, the Force is strong with this one. Let's just hope the gameplay is, too.

You guys know that demo was on a high end PC. It'll look like shit on consoles. Maybe the Wii U will have the best version if its indeed stronger than PS360.

That's what they said in the interview (about the PC graphics). Still, it looks great.

Well, bad news...maybe.

After a successful showing at E3 2012, we haven’t seen much from Star Wars 1313. Unfortunately, as Kotaku reports, it seems that could be because it has been placed on hold.Previously, LucasArts had stated that the Disney buyout wouldn’t affect 1313, but sources tell Kotaku that the project has been on hold since the entertainment giant’s purchase. Instead,”the focus is on the new trilogy, not on material that is unrelated to the planned JJ Abrams-directed Star Wars: Episode VII."

Now, 1313 has been rumored to be coming to current generation consoles, but if this delay is true, it can be expected that its launch date will be pushed well into the next generation’s launch window. For a game that (allegedly) looks as good as Star Wars 1313, it might be advantageous to wait until more powerful hardware is available.

Maybe. I wasn't expecting it anytime soon, as we haven't seen any gameplay to my knowledge.

Agreed. The original teasers that were shown were run on PC, which already have more processing and graphics power than the current-gen consoles.

Then again, it wouldn't suprise me if they are serious about pulling all resources and devoting them to the new trilogy. We. Shall. See.

Sad to think that the best game ever made may never have made it outside of the studio.

Go read the article that was linked. They're not dead, but rather being shopped.

And while it kinda sucks, it absolutely makes sense.

Disney loves to make money! There is no way they would squash something that already had so much hype...they are simply greedy and want to try and get some of the 4 billion they paid George Lucas back lol. It just sucks that the fans are the ones made to suffer and wait
