In order to represent our corporation properly, I want to have everyone register their characters on this website, it doesn't look like it is a security risk IRL, and it will help give an accurate look into our abilities.

I am mostly concerned with this for the future of the USMG Corp. Planning and such.

here is the link for the Corp page.

A few suggestions:

Download EVEMon (http://evemon.battleclinic.com/) and get it set up. You'll have to research character API keys a bit, but it's not difficult. EVEMon has a link that will take you straight there and pre-set the necessary options for your key.
(Optional) Before you get started planning, I suggest you go ahead and create a training plan called "certificates" and drop Core Competency - Basic in the plan with a priority of 3. Sort by priority and training time, and use this as your initial training plan until you figure out a customized plan.
Go to Discover Who You Are (http://www.eveonline.com/sandbox/personality-analysis/) and get some ideas about what you'd like to do short-term and long-term in EVE. I hear it would take something like 28 years to fully train all skills in EVE, so specializing is an absolute must.
Go through all of the beginner tutorials. You'll pick up several skillbooks, several ships, a few million ISK, some equipment (most but not all basically useless), and actually learn some things about controlling a ship in EVE. I recommend you do the basic military tutorial first and the advanced military tutorial last.
Once you finish the beginner tutorials, the learning curve for EVE becomes pretty much vertical. Join the corp, get someone to help you move, and lean on the rest of us to help you up the cliff.

When you first started up, you probably noticed that you can have 3 characters on an account and thought, "excellent, I can specialize in three different areas." This is theoretically true. However, the most valuable thing in EVE is skill points. Only one toon on an account can be training at a time. It is not really feasible to train multiple toons on a single account. I do have an account with a second toon, but it's got the basic starting stats and has never been trained. It's there just so I can remind myself what the starting stats are for a Minmatar character.

Don't get too discouraged at being broke and drooling over the outrageously expensive improved equipment early on. That's part of why you're in a corp.

Our corp has all 4 races, I think. You might want to do a little research on the strengths & weaknesses of each race to decide.

Or, you can do like I did. I picked my race based purely on the back story without even considering the gaming aspect.

Well, yes and no. In many ways it's that type of game.

Skills have levels. Characters don't. Certain skill levels are required to operate certain equipment. And most skills give per-level benefits to how well you can operate that equipment.

In some cases, total skill points are used as a level-like threshold for characters. More often, though, ppl are interested in whether you have specific skills at specific levels.

But the good news is that you don't have to grind skills. You decide what you want to train, queue it up, and it's just a matter of time. As long as you have something in the queue, it trains no matter what you're doing, even if you're not logged in.

So it doesn't have a story? You don't have to run around and do missions?

It hs storylines and missions, which affect your standings w/ the various factions in the galaxy. Missions pay cash & prizes. Many people prefer to run missions as their primary play style.

But you don't have to grind missions or tasks to train skills. You can completely ignore them if you prefer.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It kind of does, and you can certainly do so.......but it's completely possible to not do a single mission beyond the tutorials and still succeed at the game.

Let's put it this way, if you've played WoW, SWTOR, or Guild Wars.....or any similar MMO's....you've experienced theme-park gameplay. The game guides you through the story. This game is more like SWG, where there's a hint at something resembling story in the background, some broad points that you can act upon......but for the most part, you as the player create the story. As a player, you can choose to build a financial empire by buying and trading on the market. You can become a miner, and spend the entire game mining materials and selling them. Transporting goods for other people. Going out and killing NPC pirates or PC pirates....or go to war with your factions enemies in some good old fashioned PvP. And there are PvE missions that cover all of these, that reward you with Isk.....the greenbacks.....as well as loyalty points for the corporation you're doing those missions for. And those loyalty points....they let you trade for better versions of items.

Basically, it's the very model of a sandbox game.

Steel, pick one that sounds cool....or look up the ship types and pick one that looks the coolest. Personally, I went Caldari because I liked the ships more. You can train everyone else's ships, but it's always easier to fly your own races. Timmy went Gallente for much the same reasons, at least that's what he said the other day. Just don't go Minmatar unless you like flying around a ship that's held together by duct tape.

No, you're still available to be attacked. But given the nature of the wardec, you're going to most likely spend the entire war docked. Given their over 300 current targets, being in the starter zone will likely be your best cover from danger.

EVEMon, IMHO.

I tried EVEHQ. I could never get it to start up without throwing a bunch of exceptions.

Edit: I haven't actually seen a phone app that really does a decent job of helping you skill plan. All they really do is give you a special-purpose notepad to record a plan that you've come up with otherwise.

Yeah, don't base your training on the needs od the corp. Anything the corp truly *needs* is likely going to take you at least a month to train, anyway.

Train in the direction you want, (you're paying for the account) and let the fleet/wing/squad commanders worry about where to fit you in with whatever skills you have.

If you want to spend a few days training skills that will allow you to fill the most basic of combat roles, research "tackling" and start there.

This is absolutely correct, We are not going to tell you what to train, but if you figure out what it is you want to do (Mining, Combat, Industrial, Salvage, Exploration, etc.) We can help you attain those goals.

Not bad to train all three, and I recommend having a little training in each area, but if you want to "Specialize" in something you are only hindering yourself waiting for other skills to train that are not in you "Main" training category.

I would also recommend that this early in your career, you shouldn't train anything beyond level 3 unless it's required for a specific piece of equipment, or a prerequisite for another skill that's on your specialization path.

Not a bad idea. I still wouldn't go to 5 yet unless necessary under the conditions above.

There's a list somewhere of skills that everyone should train to 4 or 5 ASAP that are exceptions also. I'll try to track it down. They're skills that enhance ship/fit performance for any ship you fly.

Just remember that what you're paying for lvl 4/5 skilss is time that you can never get back. I wouldn't take trade skills beyond 3 unless you're going to be an indy/trader.

Like they've both said, don't tailor your training to the corp, we'll tailor your spot in the corp to your training.

If you want to go indy/mining/salv, then I'd suggest setting up a training schedule that has you working up to a Retriever (I'd suggest a Bantam to an Osprey as your mining rigs on that path so that you're maximizing the mining you'll be doing up to that point), an Industrial hauler (something that can get up to 27.5k, for a full can), and a low level salvaging rig....basically a destroyer with salvagers and tractor beams.

You'll be able to mix in refining and Industrial skills as you continue skilling those up, allowing you to refine the ore you mine, and put it in to creation. Depending on where you mine, you'll want to mix in some drone skills as well. It's especially helpful in .6 and .5 space to have scout drones to take care of the rats for you.

Cool. Right now I set a frigate to use 2 miners and extra cargo units to get ore faster

I asked the same thing lol! It doesn't matter, you can choose whatever you want to do

I posted up a skill plan in another thread for Caldari Battlecruiser, specifically Drakes, it can be attained in about a month....but trials can not train for BCs I believe.

I'll also be posting a skills plan for stealth bombers once I have a chance. That plan will take 30 days, but will be cover ALL racial SBs. Nothing is more potent then a gang of torpeado slinging frigates....torps hit for full damage in BCs and BBs....

Also, I will be adding all kinds of skill plans to assist new players with direction on what to do. Remember EVE is a leaving cliff not curve....it's not a traditional MMO.

That is all

I almost forgot, the ancillary skill plan I posted in resources is what I suggest is focused on. Get everything to 3 or 4, then to 5. The reason is because that plan will maximize your core skills. Core skills effect everything you do in eve...everything!!! Try not to get side tracked EVe is overwhelming at first. All new players should stay focused on frigate hulls. Frigates are the backbone is most fleets...and they are cheap!! The big trap in eve is everyone new thinks bigger is better...which is the case in most MMos...but not here, except titans...lol! But sticking with frigate and destroyer hulls you'll be ok in PvP...even mining ops! Don't think that you need to be crushing LV 4 missions in a few months....or fly a strat cruiser in that time either. Also...in PvP..miMnitar rust buckets have the best dps due to fall off...rifters and thrashers are probably the most used PvP ships outside of large cap fleets. I h e fits for those too...but you do not need to be mim to fly them!

That is all....for now o7

Yea, I made the apparent mistake of thinking bigger was better. Sparton straightened me out in my Merlin, although i hate that i have to be within 760m of my target. I'm gonna focus on combat. Train up for Battle Cruisers....

Being in close is good! Especially fast and close...when i am in a frigate, and i am Engaging a crusier and above....im am in tight. Ill give you a little insight on why.

In EVE all targets nee to be tracked and weapons have tracking speed and fall off to an extent. If you are in tight on a battleship or battlecruiser and burning around him...he will have a hell of a time hitting you with projectile/rails/lasers and missiles will not do full damage...unless you have a MWD. He will have to send his drones onto you for any real solid damage. Thats a very basic description. Use Eve wiki from the eve home page and read up on damage and how its done.....understand this and you will understand EVE combat.

So the reason I posted my skill list and asking for help is I decided I want to do mining and manufacturing focus, but when in a battle I want to run supportive roles like remote repair, electronic warfare, or whatever like that. I can be like everyone else and make the battle cruisers or fighting frigates. But I like making sure my guys stay in the fight and survive. I do enough shooting in the console games I want to build a really good fleet support element so we kick ass and survive it.

I cant see your stats. Have you posted to te eve board yet?

I can say this from what you provided in the text, if you wish to fly ECM, then you need Caldari frigate and cruiser skills. They are the ECM boats. The ECM skill line is a big one....about 6 mill skill points in all are needed to be good at it. Thats why you dont see many folks doing it....it is however a very very satisfying career.

Reping, that would be the gallente amd easier to attain the ECMs.

Remember this, both those careers are usually primary targets in fights and you need to have prime core skills maxed! See my resource post about those....elec, hull, eng, etc etc all need to be @ 5. It sounds daunting, but its not....at some point all te core skills are needed to progress anyway.

But never not train combat skills if you plan to pvp/pve. Pick the type of ships you want to specialize in and train to their capabilities. Try not to bounce all over...there are too many weapon type that will take up too much time.

Dont get discouraged, being new doesnt mean you are useless, 1v1 yes, chances are you are not going to win. But in a gang....you are effective!!!

Thanks. I am working on finding new agents before I hit the road for football, i will work on those skills. So I can do the other race ship skills? It seems not a big deal, but some games limit you to within your race advancement. So since I would be a target in the fight defenses are important I take it. I will research what you gave me and find the post you mentioned and add that skill planner to my aura app. Most of the skills I am doing right now are half a day to 2 days so I have time haha.

Yes, its a good idea to stick to one And make that one your "main.". You could in theory make him a jack of all trades. Just remember its not necessary to have the biggest ship. Like it was said before. Find a ship you want to fly and train for that one. A very many pilot have survived EVE on one peticular hull type.

Blasters are better close in but, require higher amounts of power and CPU then rails. You'll only get a few on a destroyer and the destroyers signature is larger then a frig, making it easier to lock and kill, especially from missiles....they usually go down with a alpha from a BC or larger. Rails are fitted to commerants because they want to engage the frigates before they get within their optimal range. Webs and rails is the order of the day.

I am liking my Tristan frigate and catalyst destroyer for most of the missions I've done so far. I get what your saying. I like small quicker ships that I can get in do something and get out. I like the gattling rails, but I'm sure someone will say there's something better. I like using afterburners so i can zoom into close range fast.

Try a micro-warp drive instead of Afterburners Ted, see if you like it better. A 1 mn MWD should do.

I will have to train up. I have level 2 of the first 2 then I can do high speed nav. I did a bunch of weapon stuff and electronics lately. Rapid firing, sharpshooter, motion prediction, and no electronic warfare. I am doing energy grid upgrades and electronic upgrades to get my core certificates. I like the certificate planner.

Jus be careful in PVP the time needed to lock you has just decreased, you'll know take more damage from missiles and jam/scams will stop you dead and in 0.0 if you get bubbled......just take your hands off the keyboard and smile at the screen, unless you are in something that can tank!

Be careful with a MWD. A few things that nobody's pointed out that you might not have noticed/realized:

When you fit an MWD to your ship, your capacitor shrinks by some percentage (dependent on the MWD model.) Be aware of the effect this will have on the stability of your power system.
When you activate a MWD (or afterburner) and deactivate it, it continues to run until it completes the current "cycle". (Important for the other reasons)
When a MWD is active, it increases your target signature by 500%!!!

It's significantly easier for other ships to target you. Your sneaky little frigate is now as easy to target and hit as a cruiser.
Missiles will do up to 5x as much damage to your ship!! Since missiles are pretty much guaranteed hits when in range, this is a significant drawback.
Med/Large turret weapons will do up to 5x as much damage to your ship!! Same as missiles. So your frigate no longer gets a "gnat" benefit when fighting bigger ships w/ bigger guns.

Everything in EVE has trade-offs. Especially modules that you use to outfit your ships. (There are a few exceptions, usually power enhancements.) Before you fall in love with a module's primary function, be fully aware of its penalties and how that will impact you.

Not at all, and that's not what I was implying. Most PvP fits use an MWD. Especially tacklers & short-range DPS that have to get close to the enemy to be effective.

I'm just saying you need to be aware of the weaknesses of a module in addition to its strengths.

Thanks for the input guys, yeah I noticed the speed but easier targeted when I was skirmishing multiples. I have a few destroyers and like 7 frigates so I can work with both afterburners and mwd. I have been enjoying my scout drones that help take out the smaller craft. I did mess up and warp out of an area and dock before remembering it. So that one is gone, but I have around 10 of them. I have my first ECM and will try it tonight or tomorrow. I have to train one more thing first I think. I was getting spread out for my first week on Eve. So I bout all my supplies except some ore I left in Hirizan to my main station. I did get a warning that I did something hostile and now to be careful undocking. As a heads up, unless you're actively being attacked, there are better than even odds that your drone was still out there.

Next time this happens....and it'll happen a shitload.......warp back out, right click your ship, and select the "reconnect to lost drones" option.

Steel, depends on what you want to do. I've got a Caracel right now for PvE that is pretty much the epitome of pimp. The Thorax is good if you want to go that route, as are a couple others. Again, it depends on what you want to do with it, and what you want to equip.

They serve no purpose other than to help you plan your skill training by grouping complimentary skills. Also, other ppl can see what certs you have via API if you allow it, and it's easier for a corp leader to check who has Covert Ops - Standard certs than it is to check the levels of all the individual skills (when looking for people to send out as scouts, for instance.)

No, certs are a list of skills. Cert A requires skill B, C, and D to be trained to levels x, y, and z. The cert requirements aren't always necessary to fit and pilot a ship, but they do require skills that will benefit you in that ship.

A couple of questions:

1. What do I do with the stuff I have salvaged of the ships I've destroyed running some missions? Sell it? Keep it?

2. I was on the EVE University site and they said you should do the level 1 50 mission epic arc. Is this worthwhile?

3. What is the best way to move a bunch of ships and material from one base to another? My beginning station is 22 jumps away from the corp station.

Thanks :)

1. Keep everything you salavage. That stuff is used to make rigs...and rigs go for goooooood money!

2. Yes, its worth all the isk and ships youll get.

3. Well, you can keep it where it is and make a second base of ops..sell it off and buy new at the HQ loc, I dont suggest that, or you can have it hauled for you. Or find a mid way point and operate out of that spot.

What I do is keep a mission ship in aan area and go out and plex or belt rat, colllect all the stuff and sort what I want and sell the rest. You will yield good cash flow and supplies that way. Never put all your eggs in one basket in EVE. I also have 20 systems I use as ops bases....an 6 are Major ship yards...multiple ships stashed for rainy days.

1. Keep if you're going to get in to industrial, otherwise sell it off.

2. Absolutely. I'd suggest a destroyer for your mission rig though. By the end of the arc, you should have enough to buy a cruiser, which you'll need for the final mission. Also gives decent rep.

3. Sweet-talk someone in the corp to transport it all for you. Repackage any ships you're not going to be flying over.

Since you can indefinitely do missions for an agent, I wouldn't worry about running out. I'd very strongly suggest doing missions for a single corporation though, especially if they have Loyalty Point items you're interested in. The agent finder is an awesome tool in that regard.

Also, keep an eye out for mission upgrades, lvl 1 to 2, and so on.

Click on Aura in your NeoCom (blue head icon). One of the options is to view petitions. Once you're there you'll see a button to file a new petition. You'll have to figure the categories out. Just explain in the petition what happened and ask them to reactivate the agent for you. Give them the specific agent name as well. Since it's something GameMasters can do, it shouldn't take long. I accidentally let two tutorial chains expire on me, and when I filed the petition it was only about an hour before they'd been reset.

You may have to redo a couple of missions you've already done, but it shouldn't be a big deal. You especially want to finish that tutorial since it's the one that gives you a destroyer on the last mission. I think you also get the destroyer skill book on that mission or the next-to-last.

Now you can either start doing missions for a corporation, do one of the other 4 epic arcs, or start grinding out a profession.

... have about 8 different skill queue's set up.

^^^^ This.

I use EVEMon, bu I have multiple long-term plans set up and prioritized, too. My primary training plan is the one I call "Next Priority."

Training up for covert ops? Go to ship browser, find "Cheetah" (or race-appropriate ship), and add all skills to queue as priority 1. Then find the Covert Ops Cloak and add its required skills as priority 1.

Want to upgrade to T2 ammo once you can scout? Find Barrage (or race-appropriate ammo), add required skills as priority 2.

Etc, etc.

Once you clear out a "next step", shift all remaining priorities up one.

If you have a 5-step plan, and change your mind about the order, just adjust the priorities, since everything under a specific priority level all relates to the same "phase" of the plan.

But don't let this plan get big. Keep it to the next 3-5 priorities, max.

Also, have a long-term "master" plan that you use for calculating your attribute assignments. (Mine is about 7 years long right now.)

The one thing that made me switch from Evemon to HQ was the ship fitter. I've created a couple, and have imported a couple more from the Corp's fitting browser. Take whatever fit set you need, click the red button that says you're missing skills for that fit, and blammo, create a unique skill set detailing everything you need to pilot a specific ship.

I'm thinking of giving EVEHQ another try. When I tried it before I just got tired of the constant error messages.

Stay tuned for related news in the EVE forum soon.

No, but yes. It will always cap at 24 hours.........but you can start any skill that will start within that 24 hours. So if you have a 23 hour queue, you can start a longer multiday skill and keep it running, ending with a 10 to 20 day long skill queue.

Teddi, if you want to give me a schedule of what to train and your account info, i can log in and set it up for you while you are unable to. Or if you don't trust me you can choose someone else. I had access to Appolo's account for two weeks and I didn't steal any of his stuff....... That he knows about. :D

Seriously though, I will help you if you need it, just send me a PM.

thanks but I think the remote desktop works fine. My brother has a couple of goof off servers at his place. I will just commandeer one. We are a techy family. I just wish it was more than the 24 hours. I could do the whole skill plan at once.

Since we're wardecced right now, I thought it a good time to bring this up:

Having us all on eveboard may be convenient for the corp, but it's bad Opsec. They can found out what our skills are, who's wearing implants, etc. A half decent programmer with a few hours work could write an app to scrape this site and process the data to work up a hit sheet of who can fly big ships, who can use big guns, who's mining-only or indy-only, etc.

Honestly, I think it best that we dump all of our EVEBoard APIs and try to find (or make) a site that can do the same thing for us, but will keep the info private instead of publishing it for the world to see.

Lol. It does exactly that!!

And I'd agree with the "down with Eveboard" idea.

Hmm. Somehow I posted this in the wrong thread. :)

On Eveboard, I believe you may be right about that. OPSEC.
