Good Morning Everyone,

Well today is the day ... BF3 Premium is set to drop with the first in a line of DLC slated to go live tomorrow.

I'm completely geeked for the Premium service ... looks like it's got serious value beyond giving you access to all the DLC at no additional cost.

Here is the launch trailer for BF3 Premium:

Good Hunting!

I know there is another thread, however I have been talking this up in-game and a number of folks that I have mentioned it to were unfamiliar with it so I wanted to put this trailer in on the PS3 side in close proximity to the other posts to make sure that those folks saw it.

Nothing yet ... I'm barely dealing with work cuz I want to run home and DL it ... but I won't get to test it till about 2100(ish) till the family racks out for the night.

The real deal will come when CQ drops tomorrow.

Yeah, I was considering it...but I've got a dentist appointment so I may just not go back to work after my dentist appointment and play until Frisbee.

By the time I'm able to log in I'm gonna be a frakk'n basket case *LOL*

$50 a year for the service, no thanks. EA is struggling, they bet the farm on SWTOR and its a bust....their BF title is what's keeping them afloat....I can't see paying that much for a service....but then again...I had 4 accounts on EVE....too each their own I guess!

According to the paperwork that I saw from EA/DICE it's a one time fee only, not a yearly subscription. As far as I know.

Also when you look at it ... if they are going to ask you to pay around 15 bucks for each of the DLC packs (there are 5 total B2K I got free anyway because of a pre-order perk as did many many others) that is still 4 x 15 bucks that you get for your 50. So you save about 10 bucks and get all the other follow on bits for being a BF3 Premium guy.

Still seems like a value to me.

Yeah, I'm not sure why there always seems to be an outcry against these services. Maybe people don't read the details or something? Heard the same arguments against CoD: Elite. They both provide a cheaper option to get the DLC, plus a few other freebies (that aren't really worth anything by themselves).

I'm still on the fence about the $50 but the 2 week early access is pushing me to get it.

Oh I read detail....unless this article is incorrect...

http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSL1E8H4BLJ20120604?irpc=43

DLC$ is the way of now and the future. Given EAs history, I'm very cautious about anything they do now and will put anything they do under a microscope. I've played all their titles, I own BF3, but do not play it anymore...it's not BF to me, too much like COD, which they had to do to compete with ATVI....EAs MO now is to copy other games and put them out....SWTOR anyone? Or do you mean WOW with light sabers? I do however enjoy the frostbite engine, but it's too much like CODs mechanics of play and scoring. Just my take, I'm getting old and cranky....now where's my prune juice.....?

I still see large differences between CoD and BF3:
Vehicles
Not able to turn around and shoot someone after being shot by them
Larger maps
(Semi-)realistic ballistics
Longer, more objective-focused modes
Better graphics
And more I can't think of right off the top of my head...

Jager take a look at the official EA/DICE document. The end of the first paragraph states specifically "one time fee $49.99". Reuters got their intel wrong.

I have to believe what EA/DICE are putting out as official gouge.

:)

KopfeJager
06-04-2012, 16:29
Could be, they've been wrong in the past, probably relating to the COD Elite thingies....I'll see in a day or two from corporate.....but EAs been known to fudge themselves as well.

My understanding is that it's like the old expansions that went for $14? But now are $50?

MjolnirActual
06-04-2012, 16:40
No the expansions will be 15 bucks ... Pay the 1 time 50 and you get the all free and 2 weeks early.

There are 4 more DLCs coming including CQ... If you didn't already have B2K it would be free too

To answer a couple of quick questions ... The premium is a quick 100kb unlock ... I can't remember the actual size but for me it was showing to be about a 10 min download the install was where I hung up a bit ... It's a good size file but not too crazy

The premium service is through the playstation store ... DLC access is through the ingame store

Nevermind I had to actually go log into the game to see it. I tried looking through the PS store and didn't see it that way. Probably a way to keep out the non premium subscribers. Downloading now....... Hurry up playstation!!

Well, I'm still waiting for the game update to finish. 2.38GB! And it's at 25% after an hour. I can see the pop-up message that says "Premium is availiable through the in-game store" though, so I'll get it later. Unfortunately I'll have to wait another 2 weeks for Close Quarters. *sigh*

Yes, I've played with iamthesgt on 360, he's definitely a monster! And I just unlocked the 3rd seat for the MBT's last night(finally!), so we can rock that strategy when you jump over too. Had fun last night with all the boys again, reminded me of why I need to play this more often!

Thanks Havok! I try. Fully equipped tank is beast, and that 3rd seat is such an asset if other members of your team are in Guided-equipped choppers are running with Javvys. See you guys in a week and a half or so!

Yeah it used to be impossible, but with the April update flares would occasionally deflect designated targets, which I hated. But now that I fly helos, I guess I like it too.

I hope so ... the good news (a bright spot anyway) is that the "mode" works on the current maps ... so at least you can try CQ in the older maps and get a feel for the game play.

I played one round last night ... OH the ass whoop'n that I took ... *LOL*

Surprisingly the amount of "noobery" was not as bad as I thought ... there were RPGs and SMAWs pop'n left and right but the guys that were doing really well and stomp'n my gutz out were frakk'n snipers running low power optics and lasers.

Shotties were in full effect too.

Intense shit to be sure.

a few mins later....

Just went on the Battlefield boards... apparently the issue still persists ... but they are working on it.

AND in case you are wondering ... the same little crying trolls are still all over those forums ... some people's kids!
