I heard of one in California, I've used Google but much doesn't come up. So if you know of any, or if you have friends let me know so i can get some more information on this subject

A friend of mine went to a school in Austin,TX and I have a friend who went to HS with and then after the NFL works for EA sports programming. He went to USC and then did continued education while playing in the NFL.

here is a good list of schools and they link you to them

Unless you really want to do the graphical aspects or are just more comfortable, I would reccomend getting a Computer Science degree. The graphical engineers tend to have long hours, low pay, and although conditions have improved, you can still find many complaints about graphic designers being treated poorly (EA has ranked as one of the worst). Computer Scientists are the ones who design the actual engines, algorithms, and the like, and they have much better jobs.

What they said. But more importantly, start helping out on some opn source game-related projects.

Game shops are more interested in skills that are specific to game development than the general stuff you learn in a degree program.

Check out the job openings on gaming company sites for an idea. (World of darkness has several.)

What do you mean.open source games?

I'm not sure how to answer that without condescending. I assume from the question that you aren't currently a programmer, for a hobby or otherwise?

Here is a list of open-source games (note that this is in no way all of them): http://sourceforge.net/directory/games

Open source software is software whose source code is available for anybody in the world to download, look at, learn from, and in some cases even modify and redistribute (depending on the license it's published under.) Executable binaries are often provided, as well, which basically makes this free software for most users. (The mumble server/client are open source projects.)

More importantly to the aspiring programmer, some open source projects allow anyone with programming knowledge to submit new or modified source code for review and inclusion in the application. Some projects that are open source, but closed development (meaning there's a team of developers who are the only ones generally allowed to submit code) actively recruit new potential developers constantly. And some are even willing to take on talented entry-level developers who are looking to learn how to program game engines and related code "in the wild." Concrete experience working on such a project, especially one considered to be a successful project and good game, will do you more favors on an interview with a gaming company than a 4.0 average will ever do.

This. If this is something you really want to do, then get into coding as much as possible, otherwise there will be a big shock

I was trying to go to school for the same thing, but I know its probably not for me. I have decided to get into something more general. Graphic Design can be used for multiple diffrent things. Im still in the works of getting into school. Alot crazier than I thought it would be
