I am looking at buying a new F150 SuperCrew soon, and am wondering what suggestions you guys have for dealing? I will be honest with you, I am horrible at negotiating. From some of the guys I have spoken to, they have told me to ask for the invoice, then deal from there. For what I am looking for they said to try around $100 over invoice. This being the dealership still makes there holdback, etc. The only problem is I don't think I am going to find what I exactly want on the lot. In the case they have to locate or order what I want, then what should I shoot for??

Check this article out: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cars/car-buying-advice/guide-to-new-car-buying/pricing/set-a-target-price/index.htm
Bottom line it says is 1-5% over Dealer's cost.

The best time to get a new truck would be either be the end of the year sale or when the new year models come out. For the end of the year sales, you'll get great deals cause the dealerships are trying to get the old inventory out the door. You might be able to finance for low APR as well. For new models, you can get great financing because most dealerships will have deals where you can finance the truck for 0% APR and 0 down on the truck. The kick to buying a new model for the new year is that you won't be able to get good discounts. Oh another benefit to buying the end of the year models during the sales of the new models, is that you can use the great financing of the 0% APR and 0 money down when buying the old models. Plus you can get all the discounts that come with the older models as well. Your best bet is to see which dealership will give you the best finance charge on APR. The lower, the better. Or you can buy the truck and within the first 30 days, finance the truck through USAA or some other credit union to get an insane deal on APR. Just be sure not to get haggled with the deals they have. Also watch out for the "your". A good salesman will always say "your" to mind trick you into buying a truck.

Being that I have bought several new cars in my life, and have become hip to the dealership scams, plus my cousin is a car salesman. Lol!! Ok, first off you need to understand how a dealership makes money off you, and it's not on the price of the car alone. Now a days banks are making deals with dealerships by way of kicking back interests percentage points. A dead giveaway of this is when a dealer tells you to finance through them at 4.9%. You tell them no, then they say how about 3.9%. There just taking off of there cut. Another thing they scam you on is warranties, dent protection, and delivery fees. Answer no, no, no to all. Get your own loan approval prior to talking to a dealer. Show up, and haggle down the price of the car, they will think your financing through them so they will be flexible. Once you get it to the price you want tell them you have a loan approval already, and watch there eyes pop out of there head. Lol!!

Hmm. Did not know that. Good to know. I'm sure their reaction would be great.

Also don't negotiate based on a monthly payment. The first question they'll ask is what kind of payment are you looking for and they can fit just about anything into whatever payment you want. Know how much you can spends to get the payment you want ahead of time and only negotiate on the bottom line price of the vehicle. Like someone else said get pre-approved for a loan ahead of time. Don't play the games and don't be to proud/afraid to walk away.

Also, don't let the dealer know you have your heart set on the F150. Tell him you're also looking at Chevy, Dodge, etc. They will be less flexible if they know you want that particular truck.

Sooooo.....my hopes and dreams smashed for now. I was going to buy a new truck once I got my new garage up and finished this month. Unfortunately, I have to have my service upgraded at the house to 200amp, so there goes my down payment! :frusty: Hopefully I can get a new truck next year, but I figured I would atleast show off what I was going to get. :(

I thought about the 6.5', but then I would have to listen to my wife complain when she has to drive and park it at school in the winter. That, and I tow way more than haul. 8' and she would be driving like Cole Trickle....:pound:

I about to stop planning anything, because nothing every goes my way. I really don't know how you all with kids do it! My wife and I are conservative with our money and with no kids, and yet we never have money! As soon as we get some saved up BAM, something happens!
The electrical upgrade in my house really burns me because I have lived here 6yrs, and just found out although the main is fused at 200amp, I only have a 60amp service!! WTF, talk about a fire waiting to happen!! Luckily I don't have enough draw in my house to pull over 60amp. Anyway, I could had it upgraded when I bought the house and still had my down payment money!
That sucks you didn't know then.
I make ends meet cause of my girlfriend who owns the most successful quilt store in the state. They banked like 10 grand today alone. Before her I had stuff, but scrounged and worked a second job moving small boulders by hand for rock landscapers. At 37 that got old. Honestly we plan and don't spend much except on the kids. I have my 2002 Isuzu axiom and she her 2004 Yukon. Mine is showing wear and real wheel drive for 6 winters in northern montana mountains makes me want the 4 wheel drive, but I wait.

Unfortunately, yes. She goes to school in the evenings after work, and in the winters when the roads are bad, she takes the truck cause it's 4wd. She grew up with trucks, so it's not too bad, but she still drives like a woman. You can't read the plate of the car in front of her because she is tailgating so bad, but she gets SOOOO pissed when someone tailgates her. :faint2:

Oh trust me, I hear ya! The kicker is I drive a company vehicle 5 days a week, so if she doesn't drive my truck every once in awhile, then it might not get drove for weeks at a time. I actually just gave my brother-inlaw my truck to drive for a couple weeks cause he had some light work to do around the house and was going camping. My truck needs drove bad since I only put 30 miles on my truck in the last month. :faint2:

If things go well, I am hoping the beginning of next year. By then the '13s will be on the lots....:pop2: Someone told me that Ford sometimes has a truck month around October, not sure if I can swing it by then though.
But I am sure some other unforeseen disaster will appear, and I will have to drive my Silverado till I die. :ahurt:

You sir are a wise man! My wife and I got our money situation taken care of, and in the meantime found out one of my buddies has a friend who is a ford salesman. Unfortunately, he didn't have the truck I wanted, but schooled me on the numbers game.
This was the easiest truck purchase ever, but it took some work on my part. First I took my truck to local dealers to get realtime trade-in values. Then I started emailing dealers throughout the midwest getting "out the door" quotes, and emailing them pics and specs of my trade. This is important, because if you don't get "out the door" quotes, then the dealers can try to hit you with bogus fees after you show up. Once I got a decent deal, then I would find another dealer and email them the previous quote and see what they could do to beat it, and usually they did. All the truck prices were based off invoice, not MSRP. They will email you a copy of the invoice if you ask.
I started doing this in the middle of the month, all along knowing the truck I wanted and where it was. Then the last week of the month, I contacted the final dealer and said here is the quote to beat. The emailed me a quote $100 over invoice, and said if I were to pick it up by the end of the month, they would gaurantee the trade value they quoted me without seeing the truck in person. One thing to note, and even the salesman told me this. After they go below $700 over invoice, the salesman's commision is a fixed amount called a "mini deal", they make no percentage. The number probably varies from dealer to dealer.
This truck was 250mi away from me in Chicago, and they had the truck ready for me when I showed up. Walked in and out in an hour, granted 30min of it was me inspecting the truck..lol. On a side note, most of the dealers I worked with were through email only, I only spoke live to 2 dealers, one being the truck I purchased. I was happily surprised at how many dealers were willing to work through email!
Here she is!
MSRP $48000
OTD $37000 (rebates + selling price, without trade)

Waiting is the game sometimes, but in the end when you wait. Good things will come. Congrats on your new purchase though. I hope she's everything you wanted and more. I love the color and interior. Rims go great with the truck itself. FORD's RULE! Had to get that one out. Hahaha!

Thanks guys! The black rims, red trimmed leather interior, and stripe are part of the appearance package which I really wanted but couldn't find. F150's with this package are hard to come by, but even harder with the 5.0, which is why I had to go to Chicago. There were only 2 in the midwest, and the other was in Ohio.

I got it new. It only had 5mi on it when I got to the dealership.
The main reason I switched to Ford is because the crew has a flat floor when the back seats are flipped up. Great for the dog, not falling over the driveshaft hump.
Not to mention, this is the first vehicle I have ever driven where the seat is not all the way back! The interior is HUGE, and that's awesome since I am 6'3".

My buddy has a crew F250, and there is more room in the back of mine. Up front they are very close in size. Coming from a silverado, there is no comparison, the f150 is the first truck I have felt comfortable in being a big guy.

My dad has an F250 and it is roooooooomie. I sure from what your saying about your truck that your truck is similar. That's good that you bought it new. I'm not a big fan of buying vehicles used. You never know what type of torment the vehicle had been through. I bought my mustang brand new as well. I give you my word that you'll have a great time with your FORD. My dad had an F150 he bough in 99 and that bad boy is still running like a champ. Wow! I can't believe its been that long lol
