I have several friends who are Masons. Nothing strange or unusual about them. There are two major paths. Scottish Rite and York Rite. Scottish Rite incorporates all religions and York Rite is purely Christian. A lot of people have been Masons including some famous individuals including the late Ernest Borgnine. Recently within the last couple of years, some Lodges have had a more 'open door' pollicy when it comes to aquiring new members. While I'm not a mason myself, it couldn't hurt to find a nearby lodge and give them a call, their in the phonebook in most areas.

I've already seen some well intentioned,albeit incorrect information in this forum. The best thing to do is get into it and see for yourself. There is nothing nefarious about the masons. I have many friends and family who are masons as well.

Well I found a lodge but no young guys in it :( so I might look towards San Diego ones as there are more military members in it. I guess I will just show up at a meeting? On the web page it says visitors welcome, coat and tie. :)

They should have contact info on their website. Usually one of the lodge officers numbers. Best bet is to give them a call ahead of time but if the website says visitors are welcome then by all means show up and ask some questions. They should be happy to help you!

That's BS, although you might find that the Catholic Church doesn't like their members to be freemasons. They go back-and-forth on it almost every time there's a new pope.

But if there's a Lodge out there that rejected you because you're catholic, there's a serious problem in that Lodge.

Secret societies, by definition, attempt to hide their existence from the world. Freemasonry is so far from being a secret society that I find it laughable that anyone still thinks of it that way.

Freemasonry is no more secretive than any college fraternity or privately owned business. There are simply some things that nobody outside the organization should know.

We had issues on army bases in germany with masons and their elitist attitude. They were an all black group and would try pushing all the regular folks out of the clubs they liked. I am not racist and they were ok with me since I grew up with a could of em. But still there were altercations.

I am guessing that they were a different kind of mason. I think what people don't know they say is a conspiracy or illuminati, and the best way I learned to not be noticed is to be not hidden and blend in. I know groups that have public fronts and a secretive side. I'm not saying the masons are that way, but some aspects of their past we don't know, but it seems they helped america strengthen.so I'm good with them haha

Everyone in the top 3 in my unit is a mason. Getting a promotion past e6 is damn near impossible unless you are one of them.

Most lodges have signage that says when they hold their meetings, and most lodges have a meal before the meeting. If their meeting times aren't on the sign, check the state web site and it should have a list of all lodges and when they meet. (Search for Grand Lodge of Xxx, where Xxx is your state.) If you want to know more about freemasonry, stop in, have a meal, and talk to them. They should be more than willing to have a couple of guys sit and talk to you awhile, and you'll probably be surprised at how much they can and will tell you about the organization.

There are only a few lodges I'm aware of that don't generally allow just anyone to come visit. It's generally frowned on, but those few have good reasons.
