EA Announces Battlefield 4 "a one-two punch of action, intensity and shooter entertainment� July 17, 2012

EA has officially announced Battlefield 4, in the shape of an exclusive beta for those who pre-order Medal of Honor: Warfighter Limited Edition.

This news first appeared over the weekend, when Origin – EA's digital distribution platform – carried an advertisement mentioning a BF4 beta.

“Though Battlefield and Medal of Honor Warfighter each offer players a completely unique experience, they are united by their underlying technology base – Frostbite. These are two of the hottest shooters, coming together to deliver a one-two punch of action, intensity and shooter entertainment,� said Frank Gibeau, President of EA Labels.

Access to the exclusive beta will be available in Autumn 2013, and further details on Battlefield 4 will be revealed at a later date, said EA.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in North America on October 23, 2012, and in the UK on October 26, 2012.

Yeah about that.... I should have said something to someone. Just hit a wall and shut down. It's happened before but I could have at least shot Smoke or you or anyone else an explanation, or use the forum we have specifically for that purpose... But I'm glad you guys kept me, that's pretty cool!

But as far as BF4 goes, I don't know if I'm going to give it a shot on PC if it's a console-first game. I love the graphics and everything else that the PC offers over my PS3, but it just seemed like BF3 on PC was a redheaded stepchild and didn't work for shit. Not to mention the script kiddies which ruin it for everyone....

I can't wait! I still am looking forward to BF3's End Game, and finishing all the upgrades on the weapons & vehicles, so I probably have ~100-150 hrs of play time on BF3 left, but BF4 will hopefully be great!

I guess I'm the only one who thought the MoH campaign was lackluster and predictable. It was well executed and way better than BF3, but it still falls in the "Meh" category for me.

I really liked it. In the campaigns I've played, it probably beats all of them except Halo 1 and probably Halo 4.

I was really disappointed with BF3 the recon class was severely limited on what they could do. The bolt action rifles were very much limited damage wise 5 shots center mass and no kill gets annoying really quick, I played only 24 hrs of BC2 and i had over a thousand kills with the M40.

What? I'm not a good sniper but most of the bolt guns are good. Headshots are insta-kills all the time and it's never more than 2 body shots. Sometimes 1 if they're moderately injured.

Probably the server. Maybe a temporary glitch. I've never had that.

I forget the health regen rate, but unless you have to readjust every time or take an extra shot in between hits, you can still take them down with a basic bolt gun.

In preparation of the Battlefield 4 trailer reveal on March 26th, Electronic Arts and DICE have rolled out a teaser site for the game. While the site doesn’t feature much, it does promise some Battlefield 4 art is on the way, presumably in advance of the trailer.

However, DICE isn’t parting with their art so easily, they want players to log-in to the game’s official site to gauge interest in Battlefield 4. And, depending on the number of users who log in, the more DICE will reveal.

Obviously, with a trailer right around the corner, fan anticipation is high for Battlefield 4. Gamers are curious to discover what this next iteration of DICE’s FPS franchise will include, but just a brief taste is sure to tide them over. Additionally, fans are likely looking to get closer looks at the game’s graphics, in order to better gauge how DICE has stepped up the visuals from Battlefield 3.

As far as gameplay is concerned, we know that certain aspects of the Battlefield franchise, namely the Commander role in multiplayer, will be returning for Battlefield 4. We also know that the console version of the game will support 64-player skirmishes – one of the PC version of Battlefield 3‘s many advantages.

And even though there is a lot about Battlefield 4 that leaves us with a feeling of déjÃ* vu – that DICE is not pushing themselves far enough – there’s still something about a Battlefield reveal that gets us excited. Maybe it’s the residual high after BF3‘s awesome in-engine trailer, or maybe it’s just a shooter that does something a little different than Call of Duty.

That said, we hope that DICE has learned from Battlefield 3, and plan to improve upon that game in myriad ways. It’s not first, or even tenth, on the list, but we would like to see a single player campaign that is both satisfying and compelling. Battlefield 3‘s campaign was more of a showpiece for Frostbite 2.0, and lacked the substance of something like Bad Company 2.

To help urge DICE to show more Battlefield 4 art simply head to the game’s official site here, and log in. And, as we mentioned, stick tuned to Game Rant on Tuesday for the Battlefield 4 trailer.

What do you hope to see in the build up to the Battlefield 4 trailer? Do you think the trailer should focus purely on multiplayer or single player? Or should it be a combination of both?

Battlefield 4 should hit store shelves some time this Fall for the PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, and Microsoft’s next-gen console.

If you choose to buy this game for an xbox when you have a PC capable of running this game, you're a nincompoop (is that how you spell it?). Of course, not everyone has a good pc, and xbox is still fun. But when you have 64 players on the same battlefield, its a lot more fun.

The Commander role first appears in Battlefield 2, along with squads, comprising a chain-of-command. Players are still free to do as they wish, but earn bonus points for following objectives set forth by the commander and squad leaders. A star icon identifies the team's commander on the map.

At the start of a round, players can apply for the commander position. The seniormost applicant (in terms of experience) is offered command, which can be accepted or denied. A player who accepts command gains the ability to use Commander view, commander assets, voice chat with other squad leaders, and issue orders. Successful commanders make the most of these tools, and the extra intelligence afforded.


Commanders can resign their role at any time, and resume play as a regular player. Other players can also call a vote to mutiny against the current commander; a successful vote demotes the commander, opening the role for applications.


Commanders need to take extra care, since assets are not available if the commander is critically wounded or dead.


Scoring

Dunno yet if I'll get it for PS3 or PC. Scripts/bugs/etc seem to be much more prevalent with PC versions and our presence there seemed a bit spotty in the past (I'm guilty too). I do prefer the graphics and controls though. If we have enough going with PC, I'll go that way, otherwise PS3. Pretty sure I'll just grab both though, even though I'm trying to cut back on my unnecessary game purchasing.

From what I've read, specs are going to be about what BF3's were. The new engine supposedly has some new features, but also some optimizations. So how BF3 performs will be about how BF4 performs.

Well Eyefinity has the added cost of needing to buy a bunch of extra monitors. So if you're getting nice monitors, that can add a significant cost to the system.

Speaking of which. Dell outlet (dell.com/outlet - refurbished parts) has a 25% off sale today for their 27" U2713HM monitor (IPS LED display, 2560x1440 resolution). It's only $450 today. I already ordered one.

I don't know. Last time they had a private beta (~1 week) and a public beta (~3 days). I assume they'll probably be doing the same thing, but as far as I remember, when I did the BF3 private beta (since I had gotten MoH), they didn't ask which platform I got it on. I think it was just an email code so maybe you can play in any? I really don't remember. Premium is half-off though right now

Squads are bigger (5 men, not 4), and the tomahawk is based off of Commander mode, which returns from BF2. Should be awesome.

I hated it so much a couple of times it looked like my guy was on crack and was shaking all over the place. I really like how they used the break away zoom for the sights, thats a huge improvement to me the acog was horrid in BF3 I think it was rarely ever used.

Pretty much all head shots. That far away, if you body shot them usually they'll just move and you won't have a second Chance sometimes. It does make it easier when all you can see is their head and that's what you hit.

Yeah it was a Rush match on Firestorm. I was defending, and took out a bunch of snipers on the big mountain overlooking the first point. I felt good with my movements, like a real sniper lol! But we ended up losing that point because the smurfs were idiots, though we did win the match in the end.

It can be fun if you've got communication, but otherwise it's a Charlie Foxtrot. Yeah I've played it at 1000% tickets and that takes forever. I have earned over 100,000 points in a round before though.

Haha wow I wish I had that problem. I played on a high slot server this weekend and they had a rule that you couldn't use any explosives (not even frags). It made it a bit more fun than usual, but of course without explosives, people would bunch up real tight at choke points and then you'd get the one guy who either didn't pay attention to the rules or was trolling and he'd launch a noob rocket in there, or a grenade, and it would blow everybody up (have to admit, I did it a couple times just for shits and giggles too, then got round banned). That map could be good IMO, hopefully they modify it for BF4.

Hopped on BF3 for PC first time in a while yesterday. I think I'm going to get BF4 for PC first; just can't beat the controls. And I figured out I'm Premium for both platforms, so I should be able to test it out on both and see for sure which direction I want to go first. I think I double-qual on PC because of my MoH purchase too. Also yesterday I played CQ for the first time, felt like Call of Duty.

I'm planning on getting BF4 and PS3 on release day as is one of the guys I play BF3 with almost daily now. As far as metro goes I hate it. It's the most overplayed map and it is very easy to get choked and the games just turn into spawn kill 4-5 guys die and watch as the entire team runs around as a useless class or as medics not reviving. Almost like every blue guy is the support from BFF.

Correction to my last, I'll be getting BF4 on PS4 as a either a bundle or premium from the get go. And as far as BF4 not being along when deployment ends that is just a matter of the players. The battlefield games are good enough to last years, for instance BF3 has been out for years and its the only game I've owned on 360 that from release I can still play with a full squad. We might take a month break once a new game comes out but then it is back to BF.

I'm not talking about attachment unlocks, I'm talking about assignments. Weapon unlocks are easy, they just come from using that weapon or vehicle a bunch. But some of these assignments are nuts.
