You are right brother, but if the Mormans get Romney elected, and I think they will, we will likely see a loosening of gun laws.

HAHA....I would love to see that....apparently you guys havent been to West Virginia. No guns will be removed from houses. Hell and most of the ones around are not legal anyways.Just because you need a permit to buy and legally own/carry a weapon...doesnt mean that people follow those rules. Would you hand over your weapons. I dont think you would.

The media is going to be the cause of either a copy cat, or terrorist attack in a similar way. One, they are giving this guy exactly what he wants with all the coverage. Then the media is interviewing every victim, witness, or anyone with an opinion who are all saying how terrified they are. This is exactly what a terrorist preys on! Sad thing is, its all for ratings!! Fucking media!!

You can't know for sure, but guns are a deterrent. The vast majority of legally purchased guns are bought by law-abiding citizens. Criminals need a "reasonable probability of success". If they think they'll be gunned down by armed citizens, they are likely to try something else. And guns are in our Bill of Rights and part of our culture.

I couldn't be trusted with a gun so just as well I live here and not there lol!!
Seriously though, there will be people who may use one in the heat of the moment that are law abiding right? Yes there are crazy people everywhere who lose the plot but I'm talking about those people who just snap...and have a gun to hand? Who under normal circumstances would never do such a thing and if they hadn't had a gun...etc.
I don't know what your statistics are over there for this situation occurring...if ever?
We have BUSY, conjested roads here, I'm sure it would happen a LOT more than over there lmao!

It happens - I don't know statistics because most times they don't differentiate between crazy gun and normal guy who snapped. We have busy roads here too, but it doesn't happen too often. Like I said, the guns also act as a deterrent even to those who just start to blow up. Also, (and all my friends, who also carry agree with this, as do many others I've heard talk about this) most people carry themselves more carefully when carrying a gun. You think more about the consequences of your actions. Not saying that carrying a gun automatically matures you, but for most people it makes them think.

It's just a different culture like you said. I would be more afraid if everyone had guns here as the norm, than nobody having guns...or a tiny minority as is now.
I just can't imagine how I'd feel knowing all my neighbours, and people in general, were carrying guns around? Wow that's really scary to me! I think I wouldn't leave the house lol!

You're right about different cultures. It has become an ingrained part of our culture, just as it is in many countries in the middle east. But many European countries have not had it as a common part of their culture for years. Honestly, and it comes down to what you're comfortable with and how you view the rest of your population, I feel safer with a lot of people carrying guns. Of course, some of my neighbors shouldn't be able to even think about a gun...but, it's a tradeoff.

well here the problem is that gun laws don't work since no one's databases talk to each other. People come up from DC and Maryland to buy guns here at the local gun shop they run there info in the PA database comes up clean and cash on the counter there goes a AK-47. The guy who owns it I give him a ton of shit for doing that kind of stuff but all he cares about are the dollars a lot of his business comes form thugs from DC/Baltimore area, you can see when they are handling the guns they don't have hunting on there minds, no the government is not going to take anyone guns and if you think Romney is for guns your wrong, he act like it in front of the gun lobby to get the votes but he will be the first person to try to crack down on them. I had Mormon LT in the corps when I was in and this guy was the most ball busting officer I every had no drinking, no fighting everything had to be ready to go at all times no gray area at all he ruined a lot of guys career's with NJP's and worse finally had a accident on ship a D battery hit him in the head from 2 stories up in one of the cargo bay's had to be shipped of to ROTA naval station then back to the states never saw of that ass-hole again.

Lady i could be on extreme survivalist I live in BFE but we have a cabin 1 hr away over grown road leads up to a hill top old log cabin the basement is hidden have a old navy door in place to lock down, food enough for the family for 2 yrs geo-thermal for heat and air, gun safe steel rod bolted to floor, have solar and wind if grid goes down, full security cams and IR everything, at home I have our bug out list when we need to go. i also have constantina wire to deploy around if needed. Ham radio, computers and part of the bug out list the xbox and PS3. I'm ready next thing I'm adding is a filter system for the air and then one for the well water incase of radioactive material. Also have full NBC suit for the family with about 50 change out for the filters.

He gave up wothout incident. I believe all the gear he had was to assist in fullfillling his delusion. The guy is a narcissistic, sociopath and was seeking ontic control of that theater to fill a void of his soullessness. Given that he said he was the joker before he fired supports my theory. He easily could have commited suicide or fought the cops, but he acted is a way that the joker did in the last batman flick....art imitating life....
This guy will be found fit to stand trial. Even if he isnt found fit initially, he will be confined to a secure mental hospital and will undergo treatment until hes found mentally fit, un most cases...that is usually in a year or less. And once at trail...i bet you cant find a jury that will find sympathy for his action! Hes gojng to end up either in regular prison and have his tonsils checked by bubba through his ass....or he will be sent to a mental facility where bubba will check his tonsils through his ass while singing showtunes and thinkng hes the new fuck toy....in the end...i think its far better a punishment then the death penalty....to completely rob a narcissist of the delusions of grander is far more lethal then the death penalty.

So you would shoot someone dead who was armed with a bat?
If he's trying to assault me with it, absolutely. One solid hit to the head with a bat can kill someone. How is that any different than shooting them?
More to the point, I will never shoot someone if there isn't a life at risk. And I'm not the one who's taking the actions that make it necessary.

Exactly. The weapon doesn't matter. In fact, I would feel justified in shooting if there is a crazy 6'8", 250-lb muscled guy who I feel is willing to do serious harm. If you feel your life or anyone else's life is threatened, then you are justified to shoot. And you always shoot to kill, never to wound.

Well first off would they have been as bold as to rob the store if they didn't have a gun in the first place? Second of all I don't agree that you can shoot someone dead if they are wielding a bat if they haven't actually attempted to hit you with it? Furthermore if I worked in a store and someone tried to rob it then I would just give them the money cos it really aint worth it to me! The guy could have ended up dead himself...would that have been worth it? Surely if it were your family member you would just advise them to hand over the money instead of getting into a gun fight?
I understand that over there you already have guns and it would be difficult now to ban them and then control it with so many guns everywhere already (closing the gate after the horse has bolted) but I hope they never make guns legal here!
For the record I don't think drugs should ever be made legal either lol!

Yes. Happens all the time. There are plenty of unarmed robberies.
Second of all I don't agree that you can shoot someone dead if they are wielding a bat if they haven't actually attempted to hit you with it?
If I am 100% sure I can defuse the situation without a gun, I will every time. But if I feel I am in danger from his bat, I will fire. There's not a hard and fast rule, and even if they haven't actually swung at me, if I feel they will - if they are menacing with the bat and I feel in danger, that's when I will fire.
Furthermore if I worked in a store and someone tried to rob it then I would just give them the money cos it really aint worth it to me! The guy could have ended up dead himself...would that have been worth it? Surely if it were your family member you would just advise them to hand over the money instead of getting into a gun fight?
If I work for someone else, more than likely they won't allow you to carry as an employee due to legal liabilities. If I work for myself and have my gun, well, that again depends on the situation. If I am 100% sure that handing over the money will make them walk out the door with no harm done, I will hand over the money. But if I think they'll kill me after getting the money, then I will fight back.

Where did I say that I was going to shoot someone just because he has a bat in his hand? Having a bat, and attempting to assault someone with a bat, are two very, very different things. As for what I would do were I to work in a store, well most stores have very specific rules and guidelines that employees have to follow. As I don't work in a store, and likely never will, I can't really say I care about their employee guidelines.
And the problem with just handing it over and doing nothing is that it quite regularly escalates anyway. If you're threatening to assault and potentially kill someone for 20 bucks....then either they're going to get scared and run when they find that they are at risk as well, or they're going to go through with it regardless of what you do. I prepare for the latter, and hope for the former.
I understand that over there you already have guns and it would be difficult now to ban them and then control it with so many guns everywhere already (closing the gate after the horse has bolted) but I hope they never make guns legal here!
That may be, but also look at it this way. The UK has more rapes, robberies, and assaults than the US, with a lower perception of safety.

The problem isn't the guns. The problem is the intent behind using the gun. A gun is no different than a knife, bat, crowbar, etc when it is used as a weapon.
And I promise you, the baddies can get ahold of guns if they really wanted to.

This dude deserves some kind of medal or something. The typical man wouldn't have gone that far as to protect his gf. Military training and instincts taught this person how to react to the situation and treated the person he cared about as his battle buddy. God bless his soul.

Yes he was. Here's the article.
James Holmes charged with first-degree murder in theater shootings
By Louis Sahagun
CENTENNIAL, Colo. -James E. Holmes was formally charged on Monday with 142 criminal counts, including 24 of first-degree murder, in connection with the shooting rampage at a suburban movie theater showing the latest Batman movie.
Holmes' demeanor appeared calm on Monday, his expression changing from wide-eyed and expectant to periods of staring ahead.
He spoke only once, replying "yes" when District Court Judge William B. Sylvester asked him about a future hearing date.
Afterward, officials set Nov. 13 for the preliminary hearing in the July 20 shooting that left 12 people dead and 58 wounded. Other hearings are expected sooner on motions, including one from media outlets seeking access to records.
In all, Holmes was charged with 142 counts including two counts of first degree murder for each person who died in the movie theater shooting in Aurora. The movie house was showing the local premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises."
In addition to the murder counts, Holmes was charged with 116 counts of criminal intent to commit murder and one count of illegal possession of an explosive device.
It was not immediately clear to what the explosive charge referred. During the attack, the gunman used a canister of gas then opened fire with several weapons.
In addition, Holmes' apartment on Paris Street was booby trapped with explosives, authorities have said.
Holmes was also charged with one count of a crime of violence, a sentence enhancer. The district attorney has yet to decide whether to seek the death penalty in the case.
Unlike the first hearing, Monday's proceedings were not televised.
After the hearing, Holmes was returned to the county jail where he is being held in sequestered confinement.
He's going away for quite a while. And will most likely get killed in prison as well.

I don't think they do. Life in prison is the likely outcome. He was only charged he hasn't been proven guilty (even though we already know) he just has to be charged so they can legally retain him.

This trial won't happen for a while being that so many victims are still in the hospital. They are still determining how many counts of murder he will receive. As far as the death penalty goes. In my opinion he should get it. He has a screw loose but he is not your typical crazy person who became violent. He plan this whole thing out which included setting traps in his apartment building. Do you put it in a kennel until it rehabilitates, or do you put that fucker down. I don't really care how he feels, or if he suffers or not, but I don't want him back on the street period. They are already setting us up with this guy walking on a bullshit insanity plea. In my opinion, the police should have held court behind that theatre that night. We knew this was going to happen sooner or later. People have gone back to blaming video games for when a tragedy happens.
From GamePolitics
Blame Game: Former White House Official Blames Video Games for Colorado Shooting
August 2, 2012
An editorial in the Baltimore Sun written by former White House and Pentagon official Douglas MacKinnon laments the "lessons lost" that could have come out of the Aurora, Colorado shooting about what the author calls "a culture that desensitizes us to violence." While his general sentiment that there are lessons to be learned about the shooting, what those lessons are or might be are up for debate.
First he laments about how quickly the news cycle has let this tragedy begin to fade given the impact it has had on victims and families of the shooter James Holmes. He then laments the lack of discussion on gun control, noting that if this shooting won't prompt a discussion on it than nothing will. Ultimately he sees the tragedy as an act of "terrorism."
But the most ridiculous part of the editorial relates to video games:
"As someone who knows a bit about the media and is also a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment, I was shocked by how little attention was paid to the ultra-violent video games that now sell in the tens of millions in our country. After the tragedy in Aurora, I spoke with some teenage boys of friends of mine. Each and every one admitted to playing violent video games. Some on a daily basis for hours at a time. When I asked them how many "bad guys" they kill in these games (often times in the most gruesome and graphically visual ways imaginable), one of the boys said, "Oh, over the course of a year, I kill thousands of bad guys."
He goes on to say that the Supreme Court's decision in Brown v. EMA was good for the "$25 billion a year industry" but "bad news for the rest of us," that there are 100 million gamers in the U.S. that have been "desensitized to violence" and that the video game industry needs to be "more sensitive to this tragedy and its victims" going forward. He also name drops the Oslo, Norway shooter who – he asserts – trained using video games…
Finally he voices his disdain over the "elaborate preview and promotion for Halo 4" during the Dark Knight Rises, which he calls "one of the most violent video game series of all time." MacKinnon describes the inclusion of Halo 4 in the previews (in the wake of the shooting) as "beyond offensive and disrespectful."

In Colorado shooting, a lesson lost
A tragedy leads to little self reflection about a culture that desensitizes us to violence
By Douglas MacKinnon
1:31 p.m. EDT, August 1, 2012
With each passing day, we live in a more and more disposable society. Be it food, jobs, relationships, or even sadly, horrific tragedies which deflate our national spirit.
If we want to be honest in this disposable society we now all inhabit, then we will admit that the movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colo., and the unimaginable and unbearable grief it produced for the victims and families is already fading from our collective conscious. Both because that is how our short-attention-span minds have been programmed to operate and because for much of the media, it's yesterday's news.
While I may be in a shrinking minority, I believe when tens of human beings — mothers, fathers, and children — are slaughtered or shot by a deranged individual, it deserves much more than a few days coverage or even a few honest attempts to ascertain what pushed such an obviously sick mind over the edge. For while this incident is over for all but a few hundred family members and friends, there are a growing number of sick minds out there walking the razor thin-line between insanity and violence.
As someone who knows a bit about the media and is also a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment, I was shocked by how little attention was paid to the ultra-violent video games that now sell in the tens of millions in our country.
Just a year ago now, the Supreme Court, by a 7-2 decision, struck down California's ban on violent video games for minors citing 1st Amendment protection. Good news for the $25 billion a year industry, but maybe bad news for the rest of us.
There are more than 100 million "gamers" in our county. It stands to reason that if as a demographic, they are virtually slaughtering hundreds of millions of "bad guys," then some may become desensitized to killing actual human beings and some may be pushed over the edge. In fact, the maniac in Norway who murdered tens of children admitted he used violent video games to practice his targeting.
Regardless of whether it really plays a role in triggering real-life violence, the video game industry needs to be more sensitive to this tragedy and its victims, a fact that became all too clear when I went to see The Dark Knight Rises — the movie the victims in Aurora were watching before the carnage was unleashed.
It was a surreal experience for several reasons. The first being that my fellow movie-goers continually shifted their eyes to the exit doors to make sure no one was entering. Second, the realization that what I was watching on the screen was the very last image some of the victims saw in life.
Third, and most disturbing, was an elaborate preview and promotion for Halo 4, the latest installment of one of the most popular first-person shooter games. Are you kidding me? After what happened in Aurora, they still chose The Dark Knight Rises to promote one of the most violent video game series of all time? It was beyond offensive and disrespectful.
We do live in an increasingly disposable society often governed by the virtual over the real. Knowing that, it's even more incumbent upon us to admit when the virtual may be harming human reality.
Sadly, Aurora is already a faint memory for many and a lesson lost.

I believe this nan is speaking the complete and utter truth. It's blatantly obvious that's a person can't be held accountable for their own actions. It's clearly society that is to blame for these horrible atrocities. But why stop with video games, when there is so much more blame to be applied? I for one am appalled that nothing has been done about the utterly disgusting and appalling tragedy to American society that is fast food. I mean, it's not my fault that McDonalds tastes so damn good. Or that I'd rather get a double quarter pounder with cheese than some salad. That fault is squarely on the shoulders of McDonalds. Or Popeye's, or KFC's,
But if we're going to be realistic, we know that the true culprit isn't fast food. Oh no. The true culprit is the fork and spoon. Absolutely, the fork and spoon have done more to create an obesity problem in America than the KFC double down and Burger King triple whopper with cheese.........combined!!! Clearly the fork and Spoon are every bit to blame for obesity as games are for random violence. Therefore down with the Fork, and down with the spoon!! Ban them both, and bring on the chopsticks. Chopsticks will single-handedly solve the obesity problem!!
Or..........we could stop trying to blame society for every problem, and remember that society didn't pull a gun out and shoot people, one individual did.

Lol...maybe that's why I'm thin...because McDonalds tastes so bad...blegh! Seriously though, no study has shown a convincing link and the Norway shooter admitted to practicing on video games (though how good of practice that was, I don't know), but not to become desensitized through everyday playing for fun.
