PlayStation 3 do-it-yourself platformer LittleBigPlanet is getting a sequel, a fact confirmed by the latest issue of Game Informer magazine, which spills a sackful of new and fascinating details on developer Media Molecule's next game.

According to early details from the magazine from a NeoGAF forum member, LittleBigPlanet 2 is much more than just a side-scrolling platforming game. Media Molecule is creating new tools that will enable players to create racing games, puzzle games, "Space Invaders clones," role-playing games and even real-time strategy games.

"A Media Molecule developer has created a fully-functioning Command & Conquer clone," according to a recount of the mag's report.

LittleBigPlanet 2 will also apparently let players create and edit short films, record their own sound effects and manipulate the game's camera to make customized cut scenes using Sackboys.

The PS3 game also introduces the Sackbot, a fully customizable and programmable enemy unit. With new "direct control seat" options that let players define control schemes, creating customized controls for enemies, vehicles and even Sackboy himself—no more standardized floaty control?—LittleBigPlanet 2's game creation tools sound like a massive leap.

While it all sounds wildly different, LittleBigPlanet 2 is said to let players carry over all their levels, costumes and downloadable content from the original game.http://kotaku.com/5533736/first-littleb ... e-new-game (http://kotaku.com/5533736/first-littlebigplanet-2-details-its-a-whole-new-game)

i saw a little bit about this earlier today and i was skeptical because rumors were floating around since even before the very first beta test of LBP that they were working on the sequel but i guess now it is a reality. I look forward to hearing/seeing more about this when E3 rolls around.

I always thought this game was cool because how simple it was that I could even get my wife to play along with me on it. They look like they changed alot with some of those Mario smash brothers type of arenas...

Game just got delayed to next year
From ign.com

LBP2 Pushed Back
Date: Sep 23, 2010
Author: Martin Robinson

Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet 2 is being pushed back to the January 2011, Sony has confirmed. In an official statement on the PlayStation blog, Media Molecule said it was "truly sorry" for the slip and explained that the reason for the delay was "to allow ourselves a bit more time to deliver the experience that our great fans and community deserve."

LittleBigPlanet's no stranger to delays - 2008's debut instalment was pushed back thanks to some unwitting controversy stemming from its soundtrack choices.

Already LittleBigPlanet 2 is looking hugely ambitious, extending its scope beyond platforming and so far astounded every time we've seen it. It's sure to be worth the wait.

Here's Media Molecule's statement in full:

LittleBigPlanet 2 is a crazy dream, a dream to allow players to make whatever kind of game they want, but also to play though a great adventure of drama and excitement, power-ups and cinematics. But like all the most ambitious ideas, it can be a considerable challenge to turn these dreams in fun games. We've all been working like powered-up space ninjas and we're almost there, but because we love what we've made, and we love our little sack-friends, and most of all we love all our fans out there, we couldn't let you all get together until we knew we were giving you the best experience imaginable. Which is why we've taken the hard decision to delay the worldwide release of LittleBigPlanet 2, originally slated for later this year to January 2011.

We know this will come as disappointing news for all you LittleBigPlanet fans, and believe us, we are disappointed too. We are a tight-knit team and we take enormous pride in our work, so to raise the bar we've set with the original LittleBigPlanet, a game that has been so embraced by all, we've agreed to allow ourselves a bit more time to deliver the experience that our great fans and community deserve. We are truly sorry, but hope you understand that we have to build the best possible game, as it is the foundation of our community.

On the upside, we are going to find a way to give more of you a taste of LBP2 prior to launch, so stay tuned.
Thanks for your continued love and support, it won't be long - we promise.

Lots of love from all at Mm.

I was just about to post this info. Sucks it is not coming out for a while still but at least that last part in their statement hints at a demo or an open beta coming up that anyone can participate in.

I'm still waiting on the NA closed beta codes to be released any time now, right now only EU is in the beta but MM has said our codes will be sent when the beta client gets updated again :D

Max is by far the best LBP map maker I know of. Especially his ideas of thinking outside the box on teleporting, and of course his NINJA WARRIOR! I still have the high score I think... :)

updates on the status of the NA beta have been pretty scarce so far, the EU leg of the beta has been going on for about a month now whereas everyone here has been promised the beta is coming "soon"

every week passes with the hope that next week is going to be the week we get our codes but alas, no code. Anyways, here is the latest word with a little info for those that are interested in getting into this beta test

LittleBigPlanet 2 U.S. online beta
Good news…the 2nd phase of our online beta will be ready next week. This phase will be a small phase, with invites going to a special mix of LBP contributors, DLC owners and PlayStation Plus members, so be on the lookout for an e-mail soon with your beta code. Don’t worry: there are more beta phases in the works, so if you don’t get in next week, we’ll keep you posted on following phases.

the hope is that the codes will go out along side today's playstation store update so if you are a LBP player or a plus subscriber, it would be a good idea to keep an eye on your email inbox

you you think you might be included in this test but lost or didn't know you got the email, an easy test is to try and go to this link:

http://www.community.eu.playstation.com ... N_LBP_beta (http://www.community.eu.playstation.com/t5/PRIVATE-LBP-2-Beta/bd-p/bEN_LBP_beta)

it is a private forum and only beta testers have access to it so sign in with your PSN account and if you can view it, you're in the beta :D

Reviews are coming in from all over the net today, for those who have doubts in this game (wicked), here's some great reviews so far:

Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/04/littlebigplanet-2-review/)

"LittleBigPlanet 2 isn't just a great platformer, it's a veritable celebration of creativity."

"LittleBigPlanet 2 is a blast to play, and that's even without the thousands of cool levels people are about to start posting"
-9 out of 10

Wired (http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2011/01/sackboy-is-back-and-better-than-ever-in-little-big-planet-2/)

lol it took like two years before i plat'd LBP 1

not because i struggled though, because i never could come across 3 other people on my friend's list to complete a single level with. The hardest trophies for most people are the ones where it requires so many people to favorite you as an author and so many people to favorite your levels. It's definitely boost-able though so it wouldn't be a really hard platinum, i think i got all the trophies except the one within the first month of having the game.

here's another review, Gamepro's first 5 star of the year

GamePro (http://www.gamepro.com/article/reviews/217770/littlebigplanet-2/)

Combined with the levels created in the original LittleBigPlanet, the amount of levels that have now been shared online by players stands in at over 4 million. On average, that means that since the release of the original LittleBigPlanet back in October 2008, players have been creating a mind-bending 4400 levels a day. Should someone attempt to play LittleBigPlanet 2 for 12 hours a day, it would take them over 78 years to play through all of the shared levels, according to PlayStation Blog. Such astonishing numbers are a testament to the popularity of the Media Molecule creation, and the community that continue to support the game. With such support, it’s little wonder that LittleBigPlanet 2 has set 5 world records since its release.

upcoming downloadable content for LittleBigPlanet 2:
On April 26, the Tron: Evolution Minipack, which will set players back $2.99 and feature a Tron sticker pack as well as two new costumes

Killzone 3 Minipack was also teased with an awesome new costume, dubbed the Hazmat Trooper

lol nice try lady, that KZ costume hasn't been released yet. I do have the old Killzone 2 pack though, came with a ton of stickers and Sev and Helghast costumes

So did anyone else around here besides Lady, Sig, and myself get this game? Don't be ashamed to admit it, the game isn't made for little kids even though it may appear that way at first glance. Yeah kids can enjoy and play it but when you get into the level/game creation there are things even some adults can't fully grasp like digital logic and manipulation of the tools to get what you want out of it.

The reason i ask is because i could use some more beta testers for my latest project. Lady and I have run through it dozens of times throughout construction so i need people from an outside perspective to make sure it runs properly. Well go on then, go buy the game already :p

I've finally finished and published my level. I've only been working on it what, 5 weeks or so now? lol
Lady was a huge help as always, she has a nack for breaking my levels and letting me see what i need to patch up so it can't be done anymore. I know no one around here plays this game so i'll have to try and get it recorded on youtube somehow so i can share it here.

I got 2 plays almost instantly after publishing it and they gave it a positive rating so it's off to a good start :D

go to the LBP.me site, here's where all my levels are listed: http://lbp.me/u/MaximusR3/levels

you can use that site to add levels to your queue (well when the network is working properly and you can sign in to the site again) and then when you load up the game you can view your queue from the community section and play all the levels you added to it.

the other way of doing, entirely in-game, it is to go to community>more>friends then scroll down and find me and it should take you to all my levels

play Lady's level as well, she put a lot of time into hers too

It was sooooo time consuming and tiring! I literally didnt sleep for like 2 weeks or so making that level. I don't think I'll be making another one lol!

Get her to play Max's, he has some amazing levels and the new one he has just done is so clever. It's called relic hunter and it's basically Indiana Jones ;)

Not going to lie, this new dlc will be my main motivation behind finally picking up move

I'm glad to hear your daughter is enjoying the game River. There is such a vast amount of user created content out there that they've already concluded is statistically impossible to play them all in a life time and more are published every day. This really is a game you could enjoy for years without it going stale

In other LBP news, Media Molecule is still looking for a few more programmers and artist, and I forget the name of the Sweden based studio but they are now hiring level designers for LBPvita. damn it all, why couldn't I be from the UK or Sweden?

Quite some time ago, Media Molecule revealed some pictures of the original LittleBigPlanet‘s Sackboy dressed like Sepiroth, and Final Fantasy VII fans were overjoyed to see their favourite characters return – albeit in sack form.

A few years have come and gone since we saw Sackboy repping his Square Enix-owned threads, which left many to believe that the deal had fallen through. This is apparently not the case, as the Playstation.blog has revealed that the new Final Fantasy VII costume pack will be available later this month to LittleBigPlanet 2, along with a medley of other licensed outfits

LittleBigPlanet has been one of the great success stories of this console generation. Its adorable hero, Sackboy, has become the PlayStation 3′s de facto mascot, and LittleBigPlanet spearheaded Sony’s Play, Create, Share initiative, which has grown to include such other games as ModNation Racers and Planet Minigolf.
